Yeah, thats right! Like how Captain Kirk could take that communicator thing and flip it open and talk to people thousands of miles away. How prepostorous! Imagine flipping something open and being able to communicate with people!

Lol! Thats what happens when I eat donuts around the computer and forget to clean the crumbs up!

Yes, it has been awhile. I've been very busy with my job, and its also a busy time of year in my personal life....kids birthdays and such, but I HAVE gotten a little more done, and still plan to have this finished by the Southern NNL in November. The engine is about 90% finished...I still need to add the oil and transmission pans, which I try to leave till last so I don't scratch 'em up....and the oil filter. I'm also working on making the 8 3/4" rear end from the 71 Charger kit fit................ I've also got the wheels/tires from the 67 GTX kit ready....btw, the '67 wheels are correct for a '68, because they don't have the trim rings. (The trim rings weren't available until '69)...... Thanks for looking. I'm off to work again, but hopefully, I'll be back on this semi-full time again soon.

I think maybe the Mayans, who, by the way, aren't around anymore.

Yeah, but according to that Heavens Gate cult, you gotta be castrated in order to go, so that pretty much rules me out. Anyway....things are only going to get worse from here on out. Thats whats predicted in the Bible, and to me, thats a little more important than Gene Roddenberry.

Cash for clunkers question..........
roadhawg replied to roadhawg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lol.....Joe Grasscutter ain't my friend! If he was, he'd be over here cutting MY grass! Thanks for the replies. I did not know about the engine thing....the way I understood it, the whole car had to be destroyed. I just wanted to see if I was off base on this. What brought this whole thing up was a discussion with a friend about getting a new bed for my pickup. He suggested I do something like that....I think that while it would make no difference in the general scheme of things, taking something that belongs to someone else is stealing, and wrong. I just couldn't do it. -
Beautiful model, Bill! This is the way I like to see a model built....nice and clean, with a lot of subtle, well executed details....true sign of a master modeler!

This is just a hypothetical question I wanted to throw out and listen to your opinions on. It concerns the recent "Cash For Clunkers" program, that I was very much against anyway....but what do I know? Anyway....according to the program, the vehicles traded in are to be crushed....not parted out or resold....CRUSHED. Lets say Joe Grasscutter is cutting grass at a Toyota dealer. Ol' Joe has an '88 Ford pickup he tows his lawn mower with. Once, ol' Joe let his drunk brother-in-law borrow his '88 Ford pickup and he backed it into a pole...caving in the tailgate. Ok...ol'Joe is cutting the grass here and notices an '88 Ford pickup that was traded in....in the Cash For Clunkers program. It has a PERFECT tailgate, and the same color as Joes. Joe figures its gonna get crushed anyway, so while no one is looking, he swaps his bent tailgate for the good one. Now, his truck is fixed for free, and the clunker thats getting crushed is STILL, technically, complete. All his friends pat him on the back, and say "way to go, Joe! Smart thinkin!" Is what Joe did ok?

I'm not so sure the mainstream "loves" them.....they've just been brainwashed into believing thats it wrong...politically and environmentally....to drive anything powerful or flashy. Why, if you don't drive a boring econobox that can't even get out of its own way, you are living in selfish excess. Just think of all those starving kids.......wherever. I wonder if they'll ever be any rock and roll songs about a Ford Fusion? Oh, and Harry.......the way I understand it, most of the oil that the Earth still has left is buried beneath the ground in ALASKA. Oh...btw....I didn't take cash for my clunker......it's paid for. I'll just keep it.

Bugatti Type57 ATLANTIC Concept.....................Jpeg.

Well.....that sounds good. I'm game for most anything. I STILL like the idea of starting with that old Chevy sedan delivery.......here's the first thought:

I'm thinking that it would be waaaay simpler to just, after the style and design is agreed on, start with the first guy, let him do his assigned task, send it to the next guy, and so forth, till it reaches the end. Seperating into groups seems to be taking something that already has complicated logistics and making it even more complicated. This is just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions, right? Lol.....but I think you should give ample time for anybody thats interested in participating to sign up.....dunno, one month, maybe? Then....lets say 10 people signed up......divide the build into 10 different tasks. Then, put the 10 names and 10 tasks into separate bowls and draw them to assign the tasks. I'm sure that basic idea needs cleaning up, but you get the gist of it. I also like the idea of starting with a broken-down model, instead of a new one! Thats cool.....but then again, I'm a "Charlie Brown Christmas Tree" kinda guy!

The last time I was involved in a project like this, we asked for input from the eventual owner.....HIS favorite style, HIS favorite colors, etc.......it was, after all, going to end up being HIS model. That would make the planning go a little smoother, IMO.

How do you do a screen capture?
roadhawg replied to Aaronw's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When you got whatever it is you wanna screenshot, press that key at the top right on your keyboard that says "print screen" or PrtSc" or something like that. Then....open up MS Paint. Go up and click the "edit" tab, then click "paste"....the image that was on your screen will now show up there. Then you can click "file" then "save as" and save it....I usually save it as a Jpeg. I hope this makes sense. -

Help/ suggestions on rally striping
roadhawg replied to Ryan S.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You should be ok painting those particular stripes. First, use Tamiya tape, its thinner and easier to work with. Then, when you get your stripes taped off, give it a light coat of clear to seal the edges of the tape....this will prevent any bleed-under. Next, paint the silver stripes. I think this will give the results you are looking for. Good luck. By the way.....welcome to the forum! Good lookin' project you got going there! -
One of the best Challenger builds I've seen. The lowering is what made it. Awesome!

I take back what I said. I was in Walmart today and saw the Nestle brand water $3 for a 24 pack. I'll be saving the bottle caps for sometime when I feel ambitious!

I was involved in something like this before, and it was a lot of fun. After the owner recieved it, he took it around to different model shows and displayed it along with the instruction sheet that each builder signed. Its very difficult to set a time limit, though, because of all the little things that can go wrong, not just with the build, but in each individual builders life. I think it also goes better if each person signing up is assigned a particular task.....first person does the engine, next person does the suspension, and so on, depending on how many signed up. And keeping track of the progress on something like a web site or Photobucket is a great idea. But to answer your question....yes, I would be glad to sign up. Very interesting subject too!

Tire lettering for slick tires + Nice pictures inside
roadhawg replied to lamp no 3's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
For the actual tire lettering, you would need to use decals or dry transfers....not sure who makes 'em for those brands, though. For the pit crew markings, use a white or yellow gel pen....or you could actually paint it on with a fine brush and acrylic paint.....the pit crews aren't worried about it being neat, just legible!
