Very nicely done! I love that 6 in there! Years ago, I built a 66 Chevelle to race in the 6 cylinder class at the local dirt track. I had a 292 truck motor in it. First race, I proceeded to get my butt whipped by a Duster with a slant 6!

Another Casualty Of The Economy
roadhawg replied to 93Z34's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One of my pet-peeves is people blaming anything that goes wrong these days on the "economy". This hobby shop didn't go under because the "economy" was bad....it sounds like it went under because of poor business planning. Sometimes, its better to lose a little money than it is to not sell anything at all. Let me explain........... Back in the 80's, I raced R/C cars for awhile....dirt oval. Really fun, but expensive. The guy that ran the hobby shop where I primarily raced sold the car kits really cheap. He only made 5 or 10 bucks on each kit. I asked him how he could sell 'em so cheap. He said he didn't really care if he made money off the kits, but when somebody bought one, they also needed controllers.....and batteries....and bodies.....and tires.......and more powerful moters......and hotter batteries....and stronger, faster parts......and more aggressive tires....get the idea? He made his money on parts and accessories. If I had a hobby shop today, In my model department (we GOT to sell other hobbies and crafts, right?) I'd sell the kits fairly cheap, but make SURE I had a great assortment of detailing accessories, paints, wheels and tires, decals, and so forth......maybe even host scheduled contests just to make sure everyone need those parts....... But what do I know? -
Question about 1970 Trans Am
roadhawg replied to Towmaster Dave's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers, but at this point, why worry if the color isn't exactly correct? The car looks fantastic! Unless you're trying to build a 100% factory correct, showroom stock, most accuate build ever, super contest winner, just match the paint to your stripes (take the hood to the hobby shop and find a color that matches).....and if it wasn't for this thread, I'd bet most people wouldn't even notice the color ain't quite right! Beautiful model, man! Fantastic paint! -
Another beautiful build! Keep 'em coming!

What an excellent model of a beautiful race car. I just love these old roadsters. Todays Indy cars just don't have that kind of soul. Thanks for sharing!

I don't remember shoulder straps in the GTX, but again, I was only 13 at the time. when I was 17, I had a 69 Nova, and like George said, it had the straps. They were tucked into little metal clips above the window, and never used, lol! I have no idea when they started.

Excellent work! That dash is just spectacular!

I totally understand your point, and you are correct, BUT.............to be quite honest, there isn't much difference between a Picasso and a 5 year olds finger painting.

Thanks so much, everybody! I'm off to work again, but I'll have the next installment in a couple of weeks!

Lol! I saw "Lincoln Dirt-Tracker" and for some reason I thought it might be Gary Balough's Syracuse modified, but this is very different and nicely done. Shouldn't that sponsor be Bruce WAYNE Plumbing and Heating?

Stripping paint off resin?
roadhawg replied to chris coller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I recently stripped a resin '60 Chevy SW using Purple Power and it did fine. -
My current work schedule doesn't leave me with much building time, about 3 days every two weeks, but I'm still working on this! I spent this trip home getting some paint layed down....QQ-1 Electric Blue, followed by urethane clear. I also removed the molded in door handles, and will replace them with separate pieces.

Money for Models???
roadhawg replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Some Hobbytown USA franchises give gift certificates as awards in their contests.....that as good as money to me! -
what do you guy's think?
roadhawg replied to Corvette.Jeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bacon. Lol! Made me think of Burgess Merideth. "I wake up and have a plate of bacon. Then, for lunch I have bacon. Then for a midday snack, bacon! Then I usually drink my dinner. " BTW....put the paint down and step away from the emblem. -
Posting photos... and taking the heat...
roadhawg replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Constructive criticism: "Looks like the tubing you used for the roll cage is a bit small... you might want to step up a size or two for a more realistic look." Political correctness: "Perfect job on the roll cage! And you even got the size right! It's a shame Revell tooled the rest of the kit slightly oversize....that makes your perfect tubing look small." -
Model Wax "The Final Detail"
roadhawg replied to jjsipes's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To be quite honest, Pledge Furniture Polish leaves a remarkable shine on model cars. You probably already have some in your house, give it a try! -

I agree too. One reason I like to post WIP's is in case I do something wrong, someone can point it out so I can correct it before its too late. However, it's sorta rude to be TOO blunt.....saying things like "Your work looks like garbage"....even though, some of mine does! -
Where do you buy futre floor wax?
roadhawg replied to Jared Roach's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
It's now called "Pledge with Future shine", and I get it at the grocery store. You can find it anywhere floor cleaning products are sold. Here is everything you want to know about it........ http://www.swannysmodels.com/TheCompleteFuture.html -

Lol! I'm sorry. It's all my fault. I shouldn't have been eating these donuts near the computer. I'll give Orkin a call.
