testors wet look clear yeilds some pretty good results. however I feel you may get more bang for your buck using automotive paints like plasticote or duplicolor from the auto parts store. try to resist using the really cheap paint like rustoleum . some may swear by it but i don't think it works out in the long run . for long term practicality it is better to understand that your paint job is the most important aspect of your model and there are no shortcuts learn practice and patience .

Peter ,I don't know where to start the real car is cool, but you building one from scratch is the coolest. Also I don't respond every time you update but always peruse the work you are doing and it is always a learnig experience keep up the awesome work! -
I have to agree with John, you did an excellent job replicating the real car. I still can't wrap my head around this thing at a road course though.
-
Cool . I like the driver as well.

Glad to see that you are planning this out and making a list of parts and kits that you will need. it looks like it will be pretty sweet.

question about 80's vacu form kits
randx0 replied to randx0's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mark ,it is great to hear that you are still around (the modeling community) and thank you for sharing the history of your company. as I stated above I have one of your stinger hoods for the amt nova which the name recognition is what prompted me to purchase this lot that and the miller 91. I like these products they are somewhat unique and I think they could still fill a need but you would know better than I would. I did suspect that the resin had a lot to do with the downfall of vacuforming but I would still rather be working with plastic.thanks again for the history I feel there is a lack of historical knowledge and this has helped me understand a litlle more about the, as they called it back then, cottage industry.- 9 replies

Revell '40 Ford Coupe Hot Rodded 60's style - Completed
randx0 replied to Bernard Kron's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I believe you are right about the soul vs. not nearly as much soul.I can't quite put my finger on it but I would rather build an amt kit even with the virtually missing hood trim. Good luck ! -
very very nice work! it was nice to see how it went together.

A van I am working on.
randx0 replied to randx0's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Cranky it came with the kit but I didin't like the way it stuck out so I shaved the sides and made it flush. I guess I frenched the whole thing. the horizontal line is where I was going to section it but I decided not to.the vertical is where I shortened the body but beware if you do the same I did not brace it and now it bows out right by the wheel wells here are some more pictures -

randx0 replied to randx0's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just find them interesting because you don't see them very often . when i purchased these I was thinking they were probably slotcars but they are kits and that miller 91 looks pretty nice.- 9 replies

I found some old vacu formed kits on ebay and was fascinated and am wondering if anyone can tell me more about that point in modeling history. I got a kgmodels miller 91(with cady decals) an olds aerotech, an olds cutlass or trofeo or something like that and some back then sprint bodies probably for the grant king car. also from hayward model parts a late model body for the asa kits. and from mpb a 63 corvette roadster conversion kit and lastly floor boards for the amt 40 ford so you can remove the molded in exhuast and what not. I have had in my collection a stinger hood for the amt nova from mpb so i have heard of them but would like to know more. I can post pictures of these later but wanted to learn more about these right now . let me know what you know or even if you have built or unbuilt examples of these. I suspect these are all f rom 86 or 87 maybe but not later than 90. thanks for taking the time!

I wish I was going to say what Mr. Martin said but I was really going to say what Mr. Most said. very nice looking car.
-
and the mach 5 has a full steering wheel.

Welcome Rachael, so far what you have there looks pretty good. I don't have anything to offer specifcally just some general pointers. first off the railroad section of your local hobby store is an excellent source for landscaping materials but I suspect you know that already. You should check out some of the dioramas that have been done by Ken Hamilton he is probably one of the best and he has documented quite a bit of his work. another name that comes to mind is Shepard Paine. That is about all I have for you right now perhaps it will be helpful. good luck and I look forward to seeing this diorama progress.

if it is older than a year it won't pop up automatically you would have to search the forum . if it was a newer thread then perhaps rules were broken or something and it got deleted but that doesnt happen very often.
-
good call Tim!

Well I haven't quite finished thinking it through but I think i might be kind of leaning towards the mach 5 or maybe the batmobile. but seriously in all seriousness I do think that given the proper venue it would be a very close race .
-
just for arguements sake lets assoume that the race is an endurance race that puts every gadget to use. both have quite a few similar gadgets.
-
I don't think anyone could go around a corner at 300 mph. and I have never seen anyone pull away from the mach five unless speed goes off course.
-
I just picked up the full detail batmobile and i have always like speed racer and it occured to me that they came out around the same time then I wondered who would win a race both cars seem evenly matched however the mach 5 is probably much lighter. Your thoughts..........
