Need some help/advice
randx0 replied to chris coller's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
you can't if they are dry. if stiil wet pull them off gently and place them on a wet paper towel or something but you wont be able to reuse them if they dry. -
That only took me all day to figure out. the chrysler part threw me off.

I use my wifes (mine now) craft heat gun.they arent too expensive at a michaels or hobby lobby when you use the coupon.
-
nice work. would you say it just fell together or was there a few problems to overcome? you made it look easy.

you can even build your own 3d printer .I forgot the name of the movement ,however their goal is to make 3d printers that make themselves so ervryone can use the technology and related programs.

usually it should say right on the sandpaper wet dry and it should be black or dark gray. I agree I haven't found the polishing grits (3600-12000) anywhere besides the hobby shop.

New to this site and model making with some Qs
randx0 replied to sonsw87's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
if you are just starting out perhaps spraying an entire sprue tree and touching up after snipping the pieces off maybe a good place to start just so you can more easiy gauge where you need to hold the paint can or airbrush and figure out how much paint should be used. once you start to get used to using the paint itself you will better be able to decide how to hold the smaller parts. for the body and exterior parts you do want to try to paint it all at the same time but for the smaller more hidden parts touching up and respraying won't really show up unevenly.good luck and welcome! -
Today I Lost My Best Friend!
randx0 replied to Tom Setzer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Tom ,I know it hurts now but 20 years is an extremely good run for a lab sized dog. don't blame yourself he knows how much you love him.sorry for your loss. -
Well I can't splain it.

I usually paint the body closer to the end because i don't plan anything out so things are subject to change. One of the guys in my model club always paints the body first because it helps keep him motivated. the most important thing is to do what works for you,if it sounds like it makes sense to do it differently then give it a try. If it works better than your current method then by golly you have learned something .

wow that is some nice work.

I need help with a lincoln engine
randx0 replied to randx0's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I never did complete this engine . I was able to find detailed photos of everything but the top ,which is where I wanted to do my own thing . so I decided to use something different for that project. the photos i found were pretty easy to find after a gooogle images search. I don't recall the name of the website and it is no longer in my favorites. sorry I couldnt be of much more help.you would think you could find anything on the internet. -
are your models "off limits" to youngsters?
randx0 replied to 62rebel's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I remember playing with models my dad built when I was young and it had very much to do with my strong interest in models as I got older.I have a lot of kits and a lot of parts and old built ups etc . so my kids are encouraged to share what I consider our hobby . they are now 9 and 6 and have been wrecking my collection since they were 2. I am not at the gslmc grand champion level so I dont mind so much as there isnt much that cant be fixed if something goes awry.also i would have to finish something first to worry about it being wrecked.Nathan and James do have an apprecitaion for rarity and effort put into models and tend to respect that. as for other kids same goes there if they are interested they can play.most of my concern is centered on the danger of the chemicals and sharp objects used in the building process the rest is just plastic. I do have some that I would consider off limits but I don't think it will ever be a problem. we go through quite a few models that may never make it back but the experience is worth more than that. -
Ok so the tamiya karmin ghia kit is identical to the bug. as for the corvair engines while I can't speak to accuracy they are included in Ed Roth Road agent, the revell gypsy dune buggy which is the same chrome tree that is in the ahm super safari dune buggy. the gypsy was also reissued slightly different under a different name which escapes me right now. vw kits not mentioned thus far the imc vw kit the details are somewhat soft but I think there may be something there that is useful. the tom daniel lil van advertises a 1600 vw mill which I will leave up to the experts to determine if it is bash worthy .while I could not locate the instruction sheet the revell vw roller van may be able to contribute some engine parts.and in my parts bin from locations unknown but seemingly different from the aforementioned kits I have a vw engine in yellow plastic and one in white plastic so there are potentially two more sources. that is all I have to say about that.I thought about taking pictures but then dismissed it .

motor racing models cd via curt raitz
randx0 replied to randx0's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
sorry it stands for motor racing models or the previous title motor racing replicas news. but model railroading made sense with the brief description i gave. -
Curt I just saw in mcm that you are distributing cd's of the old mrrm magazine . I am super excited about this as I discovered the magazine just as it was ending and have since paid as much for one mag as the cd costs I have the last four and one or two earlier issues but that is it . for those that are not aware these probably had the most useful and credible reference to a large variety of racing models ever.

Nice build,it makes me want to build mine.
