  1. There is the Revell Corvette, a good start; you can modify a Camaro and Mustang, not much chance of the rest Maybe in resin?
  2. This weekend is the Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park featuring some amazing racing cars! Today the teams set up their work areas and got some test time on the track. Here are my photos from Day 1... I will be adding more photos every day this weekend, so check back http://public.fotki.com/HowardCohen/mobile-1-sportscar-/
  3. ...or the Harvey Aluminum Special Indy Car...
  4. Today was practice day for VARAC (vintage race cars) at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, aka Mosport Lots of cars highlighted by the 'Masters Historic F1' group http://public.fotki.com/HowardCohen/varac-2017/
  5. "The BATMAN" is a 1943 15 chapter serial from Columbia Pictures. The Batman was played by Lewis Wilson with Douglas Croft as Robin. Serials were played before the main feature as a way to keep people coming back every week. In the serial, the main character would be in serious trouble, like hanging off a cliff, as the chapter ended. To see if the hero survived, you had to come back next week. This scenario repeated itself until the last chapter. This serial was taken from the comic books of May 1939. "The serial's storyline involves the Batman, a secret U. S. government agent, attempting to defeat the sabotage schemes of Japanese agent Dr. Daka operating in Gotham City at the height of World War II. Serving Daka are his traitorous American henchmen." The above information was taken from Wikipedia. If you want to know more, look it up. You can find the serial on YouTube, I did
  6. Your before photos look like a Porsche a friend has in his garage..with more rust than yours The after looks like a car I want to drive..can I? Huh? Can I?
  7. How many Batmobiles have you all built? 'Holy cow Batman! These guys built a ton of Batmobile models!' 'Batman Does Bonneville' 'Batcycle' 'Batrod' 'Batmobile being stripped'
  8. Fleetwood Cruize 2017, London, Ontario, Canada...another great day in Steve's backyard Over 5,000 cars of all types, maybe closer to 6,000 cars Only 2 hours from Toronto or Detroit, a little farther to Buffalo, so if you live in that area, you should have been there http://public.fotki.com/HowardCohen/fleetwood-cruize-2017/
  9. Very well done! I have that in a resin body and a set of machined aluminum wheels for it...one of these days Here is the real car at Meadow Brook Hall Concours 2002.
  10. You can also check the TAMIYA website for painting tips. Many paint manufacturers have a tips section or even a forum
  11. Nicely done! My favourite kit! I have a few built, 2 red and a turquoise one from a collection.
  12. That is SUPER well done!
  13. Very well done! I am sure Ray would like it
  14. I seem to recall the first time I saw 'rubber' tires in a kit in the 60s, I was thrilled Wow, I didn't have to glue the tire halves together and paint the tires Lettering the sidewalls was a little tricky but I managed. And you could flex a rubber tire over a solid wheel without having to glue it in place Over the years, tires started to melt, in some cases. I have a few that have melted but only those I kept in a box. The tires on my finished models are good...where is that horseshoe? I do have a couple of models that I got out of collections where the tire and wheel have melted together but when I looked at them, each one had a layer of glue on it, so perhaps the glue is what causes the tire and wheel to melt together When I get an old model now, I take the wheel and tire and drop them in the Super Clean. That seems to work very well.
  15. I bought your Corvair Bertone (beat my friend Steve to it) and it is very well done. I understand that it may be a fictional car as the real Corvair Bertone did not look like your version. In any case, it has moved near the top of my build list to go along with my other Corvairs, including this nearly completed mid-engined version
  16. It's on the website, check under 'contact'. Their service is very good.
  17. Hi Amy - Over the past many years, I have helped with estate sales of models car collections, some numbering in the thousands of built cars, some of friends, some not, some by direct sale, some by auction. I have purchased models built by friends who have passed away and they are cherished memories of long friendships. Some of these life long collections have been donated to museums and sadly, not all the museums have the space to display them. Harry's family and friends should have a remembrance of Harry before you dispose of any models. Then contact the museums closest to you so that any time you want to see them, you can visit them or take friends to see the collection. Dean Milano is indeed an expert in model car history and values and may be the best person to help you with your Dad's collection. I have known Dean for many years and his knowledge is far-reaching. Dean is also very honest and trustworthy. Contact any local community museum that might have interest. Then contact all the car museums in the area. Many of them will talk to you over the telephone and give advice on how best to share Harry's work. Selling them by auction is difficult and time consuming (I know a car auction house in this area and it takes a lot of work to auction off any collection) as is selling on Ebay. Gather all the information, then discuss it with your family, then make your decision. Make sure you are all happy with your decision. We will all be happy with your decision. P.S. here are some photos I took in 2008 of a collection just before it went to a museum for display. To date, the cars are still in storage in the museum basement due to lack of space http://public.fotki.com/howardcohen/collection-hanover-2008/
  18. Here are a few tips I have learned about using foil for the past 40 years: 1 - make sure the paint is fully cured, dry is not good enough. Fully cured may be an extra few days or week, depending on the paint you use. If the paint is not fully cured, you may damage it. 2 - apply a coat of non-silicone wax before you foil. It leaves the surface smoother and makes the foil look better, no bumpy or grainy finish. 3 - cut small straight strips and apply them straight. You can trim they easily with a NEW blade. I use stainless steel surgical blades, much higher quality and better edge for cutting. 4 - I always burnish with the flat side of a toothpick or with the side of a small plastic paint dabber. 5 - apply a coat of wax after to add more shine. 6 - This is an original 1963 Corvette and all the foil was done with 1 new blade, a fresh sheet of foil (if it is cracked, use only the smooth bits, never try to smooth the cracks). This is about 4 hours of foiling.
  19. Many years ago I picked up a t-shirt at a Beach Boys themed show. The car on the shirt was the blue coupe you see. I followed the song words as best I could to create this model, painted Boyd's Pacific Blue. The gold car is a copy of a 1:1 car that someone built and I got in a collection. Both are Deuce coupes The car that is shown on the album cover is closer to the words of the song 'Custom Machine' They used it on the album cover because it was available.
  20. To quote Yogi Berra...'no one goes there anymore, it's too crowded'...
  21. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. This is direct from the Molotow website. Remember that it is not paint, it is 'INK' and may react differently over time. Many inks fade with age. Notice also 'smooth, non-absorbent surfaces' There is lots more on their website, so be sure to read it all As I have said before, this is not the saviour of the model car hobby, it's another tool you have to learn to use I just got a Revell parts pack from Bob's Chrome and it looks infinitely better with plated chrome than with painted chrome, in my opinion "LIQUID CHROME ™ - the 20 year edition! The long-awaited liquid chrome is the unique result of a long-lasting development of the BURNER ™ ink. For the best mirror effect on smooth, non-absorbent surfaces." Now go BUILD SOMETHING
  23. Is it possible to have too many photos from NNL East? I only took photos of models that I really liked. To take them all, you would spend all 7 hours taking photos, no talking, no visiting, no shopping, no bathroom breaks... I took a few hundred photos, did some shopping (yes, I found some excellent bargains), talked to lots of people and that is from Thursday when I arrived to Sunday morning when I left Make the trip if you can, don't worry about where you stay, so many hotels and motels in the area are 15 minutes from the PAL Enjoy... https://public.fotki.com/HowardCohen/nnl-east-2017/
  24. As I will be visiting the Yogi Berra Museum on Friday, let me borrow a quote to refer to NNL East...nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded...
