Dont let it get to ya Florian. We're sposed to be havin fun! You'll get er done. While yer waitin fer the paint to dry so's you can start over, go on a freakin rampage and kill every one of dem flies!! just don't destroy the rest of the place doing so
-
love the color on yer Caddy, Kevin. seems like you got a way with the red paint -looks like blood! noticed that on yer Nomad you had posted some time ago as well. Also just checked out yer 1:1 - totally freakin awesome! Got any plans for it?
-
a ford? a freakin ford?!! on this thread??? fer sure Kevin! love to see that! I be tryin to get up the courage to get my maroon 40Ford sedan what's got Cragars on it from my ex so's I can post pix of it. Poor things just sittin in her curio cabinet with the model of my 95 S10 longbed that I made outa two shortbread kits, and a buncha dolphins and ###### like dat

Hey, welcome Merk! Very cool first post! cool truck, cool idea with the backdrop, cool old timey photo, too. lookin forward to seeing progress on the 34
-
Nice to see you posting again Gramps. I was thinkin, and I'll bet some the other guys might be too, about your builds. So cool how your showing us all these cool rods that you've built over the last 40(?) years. Any chance you could tell us when--roughly when, you built them? Just thought it'd be pretty cool to know what kinda models were available when, etc. I guess a further testament to yer model buildin ability would be the fact that they are still together, musta been some good glue back then too! You aint gotta, the pix are more than enuff already, but..............pretty please??
-
Nice, Gramps! The reds do go together! Good thing you left the lights on! Tha's probly how ya found it under all that dust, right? (how'd you do dat?--them headlights look like real ones all lit up! ) and so that's how you stuff them huge engines under them hoods, huh? rip out the innards!
-
tanks George! in my research I seen quite a few 51s with the center bar removed. This exploder shows that it was removable (well....anyting's removable - torch ) but, mebbe the copper was the deflectors? I'm hopin to get the 'chrome' lookin like yer Dad's - silver paint over rust! oh boy oh boy obhoy I are ezvcited
-
but Florian! I really wanted to make it all fuzzy . my very first thought was to make it as a ride for the band my son & I are hooked up with. Their name is ''Persephone's Dream" and purple is their color. Tuck & roll is probly the way to go. That'd look goodly along them big long inside panels. Gonna hafta scratch some 1/25 geetars & keyboreds for it. Congratz on the graduation - good way to celebrate-- with a local cruise. I keep missin the cruises here in town - too many other things goin on (women ). Nice that you & yer Dad are both total gearheads Lookin forward to eyeballin yer truk & trailer. Like my buddy used to say, "Take your time -- but HURRY UP!"
-
Had a little bit of time to work on the rat. Got the pans glued to the front & back of the frame so's I could fit the grille up. Like the cheapo 'customizing' of removing the center grille bar, just like the 1:1. gonna kill the shine of the chrome, specially on them headlight bezels. Geezoman! I want it to look ratty--not ugly
-
GEORGE! you see dat? not only does Florian got the passion for the rods - he must be hangin with Gramps behind our backs "keep goin on that fleetline till its done crapn" coz he's got the same kinda wit, too. That's grrreat! Florian. Yer learnin from the best there with Gramps! and like George says, enjoy every minute of workin on them old cars & truks, every busted knuckle, every carb rebuild--all of it! It's just you and the infernal combustion machine - none of this compooperized ######! Oh man! now I wanna go get me a 1:1 so's I can set points and adjust the dwell. Didn't I say so, George? Florian aint nuttin but trouble - GOOD trouble!! yeah, life sux at times, so nice to know I got a place to hang with some real cool friends. Sorry fer ribbin ya bout the Murky Panel, Florian. yeah I'm porbly gonna scratch an interior and open the back door(s) and flock it any ideas on the color? and for my gassers engine, it's gonna be a 235 bored out to 349 with carbs. gonna be a duel of 6s
-
Whatta ya mean, aint no tub? its just them big huge sidewalls o dat Murky coverin it up! and whatta yer talkin 2 Fleetliners??? I only greeed to do 1 -a gasser 51 to blow yer doors off (well, right now, anyhow )...... dude, you gotta quit givin me ideas pearl purple w/ chrome steelies fer the Murky Panel-excellent suggestion!! might hafta try some flames on that too! Tanks, Florian!!
-
Hey Florian, congrats on scorin the 235 - with trips ! Jest don't be drivin toooo crazy Hey, didja ever check out the BIG BOYZ forum here? Check it out and look for the 'Old Hermit'. He seems to specialize in straight 6's. I think he only works in 1/8 scale, but he has some awesome builds as well. When we gonna see some truk & trailer pics?
-
What kinda storms you get George that take out all yer sh8t? Seems the storms I get just keep dumpin sh8t on me - wonder if its some o' yours . I know, trials and tribulations, but I got Help. Hey, thanx for the ifno and fer tryin to reach me. In my research for 51s with no trim, which was pretty hard to find, I did find a guy who's fixin up a 51 and showin' progress pix. I remember him sayin that he took the hood trim off, and welded up the seam. Guess I like the look of the holes, but I probly will fill em. Gonna leave the two that held the front bowtie on tho. Apparently there were 3 bolts there, but the lower one holds the hood latch on so I did what he did and 'welded' it and smoothed it over. Yer gonna hafta get yerself a generator so's we can keep in touch. Can't let Gramps get too comfy now. Hey, didja see the pic of Gramps' old ride? His 36 Chevy pu? Sweeeeeet! It's on Florian's gasser thread. I'm hopin he builds a model of it, if'n he aint already got it on his shelf somewhere. Love ta see it. Tanks again buddy.
-
Go for it Kevin! the mo' rats, the merrier I'd planned on rattin this 49Murky panel, but lookit what happen when I sent the 51 to paint shop and sat the Murky carcass on the 51 frame --uh oh
-
Lookin sweet! but HOT........as well I'm sumin' it's gonna be low? luv them skirts (yep, n whats in em too )
-
Gramps! I was gonna ask if'n you were workin on that Galaxie of yours, but NOW! You GOTTA build up yer old 36 here, with the spun ADs and all! Unless you already did and you got it on one of yer shelfs! "oh gramps, my dad got a 36 chevy truck too. Even with the spare!! Well its torn down and standing by my bedroom window. Scared the hell out of me the first night when i woke up in the middle of the night and saw part of the cab. On the suspension, in 51 chevy didnt have leafs in the front just a ifs. All i had to do was coth the ifs of and ad one crossmember. Do you have more pics of your truck? I would show my dad. We gona run a 235 with a old speed equip on it. Gona take us forever to finish it though and i got the 58 truck cant drive yet but will in 1 1/2 years. Now we might be getin a free 53 ford so either i will be buildin my models doin school work or workin on the cars. Always school first but the other things after or on weekends." Florian, you lucky dawg you! You gonna love the 235! I was 15 when my parents bought me my 57 Chevy 4door with that hard runnin 6. I didn't know squat about engines back then, learned a little bits along the way, just enuff to be dangerous! The valves was tappin' and I read up a bit bout tightening down the rocker arms.............and wound up burning up the valves. You shoulda seen me drivin it home from art school the day that 6 died --had to stop at every auto parts store on the way to pour STP down thru the carb just to keep it runnin. Got it in the driveway and it died. Put a 283 in it & wound up rear endin a New Yorker widdit and got married and................well, anyhow, ENJOY! you lucky dawg you!
-
I was afraid you were gonna say that! I did see one of the bars in the pic of the frame & engine. Hard to see it from the front. Can't wait to see yer colors. What truck did you go with for to pull this bad boy?
-
what can I say? ya got me there Gramps!
-
just checked yer pix out Florian. I'm likin it. what's this bout the dash & the glass? I had the glass in mine before, with the tub in place and I don't remember any porblems, but.......... I did seperate the front glass from the back glass coz it was too short when they was connected-- wonder if that could be what's happenin with yours?
-
http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.p...ost&id=2099Dude! I must be nutz wantin to race you & your gasser! That is lookin too cool! I'd be sittin at the tree checkin out yer dark red steelies and miss the lites! Love the look of the frame & engine (internal combustion ='engine'----electric ='motor') Love the look with that big old driveshaft, but Florian! aint you gonna at least put some shocksabobbers on that front end ? or radius rods or sumpin? I had a stock straight 6 in a 57Chevy, and even stock, that thing was mean! I was goin 85 one night, dropped it down into second gear, punched it and got another 5mph before goin back up ta third! With that monster 6 you built, the torque will rip that front end right off ! But it looks ssooooo cool, so it's cool

Thanx Eric, I didn't even know what a ratrod was 5 years ago when I saw this guys 51-53 (1:1)Oldsmobubble at a cruise. It was lowered a bit, rusty chrome, red wheels, scuffy black primer, solid. But the thing that blew me away -and I was so tempted to try it on this- is that after he took all the side trim and other mouldings off, he filled all the holes (and made more holes) with one and a half inch long SPIKES!! So cool! He had a shorty moto helmet sittin on the roof with a row of the same spikes mohawkin it, and he made a skeleton hood ornament outa cotter pins. If'n I ever find a large scale model of them early 50's GMs, I just might try that
-
Tanks, George, and yeah, at one time I'd a gladly drilled a buncha holes with my (oops) AK!, but I'da never done dat to a Chevy !! (well, mebbe a pink 58 ) I must be gettin like Gramps, gettin into the details, and I's diggin it. Don't think I'll ever be able to stuff an engine compartment like Gramps do, tho. I am thinkin of tryin some stripin on this fat rat, so.........I gotta go find me a chicken
