What and when was your very first model?
CB replied to Uncle Mike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow.........that was a long time ago. Not exactly sure of the sequence, but I was probably around 11 or 12 years old, and was at a buddies house and he gave me a big brown grocery bag full of car model parts. I think that when my parents saw that I was into it--instead of getting me a model car kit, they gave me the Visible V8! and I was totally stoked--for awhile, but then I started cryin' to them that I wanted a new model (hmmmm....the pattern begins ) Mom & Dad told me "no new model until you finish your V8!" So I hurried up and threw it together. Shame, coz it had an electric motor in it that worked the pistons and maybe lit up the spark plugs(?) I just glued everthing to everthing to get 'er done. I think then I just stopped at the general store in town on my paper route and bought the first model car I saw? or the only one they had? Probably the beginning of my insanity---1962 Johan Rambler American. I do remember leaving the body unpainted, but put green skirts on it. I do remember it rolled really good! Not sure how things got me straightened out? but my next model was a sweet light blue 40 Ford turtleback. Loved that blue bomb, and it rolled good too! Me & my brothers had demo derbies with 'em, rolling them at each other, smashing 'em both to pieces. Ah..........great memories -

Dude! next time you get the notion to post pics like this? Send it to Harry first, coz I think he coulda used it in his "Real or Model?" forum Awesome-ness!!
-
Amen to that Bro. Just Awesome what can be done when we co-operate with Him. Purty cool how He trained you up with them 40 years of patternmaking too!
-
Hey Florian, tha's not a bad idea! After seeing yours and another guys 51 (he opened up the rear wheel wells-sorry Dude, don't remember yer name) I did start thinkin of doing a 'series' of 51's. Course, if'n I do, I'm gonna hafta chop one. In my research I saw a few chopped ones. And there's just sumpin bout the body shape that appeals to me . I think you said the magic word, Florian, "kandy". And as for the opening hood and the six inside? My first car was a '57 fourdoor 3 on the tree with the 235 straight 6, and I got some great (nostalgic) pics of a 51's engine bay with all the li'l details just like were in my 57, so I just might hafta do that . btw, how's yours coming along? I love how you got yer front end waaaaaaay up high! Don't forget to detail the back bumper n @ where the paint & chrome got scraped off from draggin on the strip!!

Thanx guyz. had to put them airvalves in coz I did a b&e at Gramps while he was gone, but all I could find was his 125th air tanks. I bumped into a shelf or sumpin' and the whole place just filled up wit dust. I'm lucky I got outa dere alive!!! So anyhowz I figgered I see if'n there were any air in Gramps' tanks and 'whhooooooossssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh' out it came! So what else could I do, but pump some 125 air in my 125 bias-plies? I mean am dat 'scale' modeling or what? Ya know Florian, after I got done doing the valves on the wheels, I asked myself "Why not do up the sixbanger the same way?" but I already glued the hood on n @.............maybe if I rebuild it sometime
-
Yo! Dave, tha's one mean lookin' Ranchero! even without wheels or pipes an @! Can't wait to see it sittin' on the ground.
-
got some work done on the Fleetliner. pics in Fotki. after much research for pics of 51's with no trim, finally found some and drilled trim mounting holes thru existing trim. then, filed and sanded trim 'off'. will post pics when doing other side. even tho it's only a curb-rat, I decided to detail the wheels a bit. drilled rims for air valves, superglued 'valves' made outa wire in, filed off excess to fit in tire, added black paint to valve and silver paint to lug nuts. shot the body with some gray Createx airbrush paint (don't think I'll do that again) and sanded a good bit off. gettin' the look I want. after reviewing the pics I can see I'm gonna hafta do something with the frame hangin' down right behind the front wheels. http://public.fotki.com/V866/51-fleetliner-rat/

Later and God bless. Can't wait til ya get back and post somethin' else off the shelf. (######, George, you be doin' a grand job, no wonder Gramps is goin on vcation!! )
-
Whoa, Kevin . That thing am BIG! I started out on this here forum with the BIG BOYZ and can't wait to get into one of my bigger projex. Can't wait to see what you do with this! Did you open the doors? or did it come like that? I was thinkin that's a cool way to access the motor n @ if you was runnin' it.
-
I say 'model', and a ###### fine one at that, coz it looks like it was shot outside, but with some fill lighting lessening the shadows around the scoopy parts of the lower fender areas..........and wha's up with the airbrushed foreground? that aint for real for sure

MINIDREAMS 62 FALCON TWISTED OUT PROMO !
CB replied to David@MinidreamsInc.'s topic in WIP: Model Cars
WOWSER!! Man, Dave, tha's one awesome Falcon! Wish I'd had one like this back in 1971 when I got my only speeding ticket. I was driving my Dad's '67 and had it's 144ci goin 80mph and got busted by Leo in his big old Impala. If'n I'd had this bad boy, he never woulda caught me Very nice work! Lookin forward to seeing it done. -
'they' be the lense off my big camera that I pasted on my face via this here computraption. I thought it'd be nice if'n I could find some doc to surgically implant them lenses--telescopic--right into my face. Got the idea while shooting the pic of me cleaning out the rims with me knife. It's my big Pentax SLR which means I can look thru the viewfinder and 'see' things really up close---'######'n in Macro mode' . and yeah, it do take a lot longer to do things thataway.....and lotsa bandaids, too !! Must be sumpin' bout these here 51's.........everbody what 'works' on one seems to take a long time--(mebbe you oughta get on Florian, Gramps, to get his goin' too !) Yep, I've been checkin' yer thread lookin' for ups on your gasser, Florian, likin' the stance on yours. Hope it's comin' along. As much as I enjoy lookin' at Gramps' fully plumbed, wired, & crammed in there, engine compartments , I seem to have this here philosophy (excuse ) that if da hood be part of the car, then whatta ya need a engine for?? If'n I ever get around to my other builds--'29, '32, '34, (Good Lord! I'll probly be 75 by then!) with the engine exposed (oh yeah, I are a prevert, too ) then I'll run the hoses, wires, fuel lines, etc. So this rat is just a curb-rat. Mebbe I'll do up the six outa it and stick it in one of my future rods. Did a buncha research the other day and finally found pics of a 51 with the front trim off and the mounty holes showin', so next step is to drill them mounty holes thru the molded on trim then sand the trim off. Hope to have pix of that--and some paint--finally--in a few months---I mean--days!! Later guys, ######'n

(psst......George! wanna put our white suits on and pay Dave a visit? maybe 'confiscate' the 'evidence'?) You did what? messed with the wheelbase?????? just cozza stock dash??? I'd never do dat, Dave,.... tha's why it's called a TEMPEST!!
-
been spending a little more time workin on my Chevy. Finally got the body sittin comfy on the frame and got the radiator in. Had to use heat and extreme force to get the frame down where I wanted it, but 'twere worth it--I'm likin the stance, or the 'droop' maybe? Good thing I aint drivin it, coz it aint purty under there, but tha's what the rats about aint it? Had to get me some new glasses, I don't remember these models being this small 40 years ago . Aint sure if'n I'm gonna paste 'Smokin' Sam' on the door yet. Do wanna make my own decals ...........hmmmm, maybe I'll get me a chickin & use one of it's feathers to paint 'Sam' on? shouldn't be a problem with my new glasses

Yer OK, Harold,.....??............I mean--George! Yer OK, n we're Ok too. Hell, we all be bustin' our guts probly more n anybody on this here formu. Ain't that what it's all bout? --- (When we doin that road trip? http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/uploads/emoticons/default_blink.png' alt=''> ) I gotta get some pix posted fer Gramps. Later, ######'n
