  1. Yeah, I've been followin yer build ever since young Florian totally brainwashed me into a gasserhead . Pretty cool. Looking forward to seein more progress pix of it. I've checked out a couple other gasser sites, but the traditional & kustoms sound interesting too. I'll float ya a pm -- probly tomorrow. Thanks Robert.
  2. I was thinkin of usin posterboard, or that Crescent stuff you use, for that siding. Oughta be thick enuff & you could cut it with yer knife. but you'll come up with somethin--Still think I outa me freakkinga mind, George?? -- well not to steal yer thunder nor your gayrage, but I been busy mockin up mine. You was right Gramps - dat thing is huge, and it's only half there! guess I'll hafta start anouther thread......
  3. aw shucks George - you say the nicesst things ta me Whatta ya think bout layin real type siding on them walls Gramps? mebbe bout a scale foot wide, kinda like wood siding & you could lay it on like 1:1, overlap it to get a li'l shadow line, then spray some o dat good ol Deetroyt alley dust on it. Since ya already got the trim on, ya could just butt it up agin it & if'n it all don't lay just so, it'll porbly look even mo like a deetro alley gayrage. Don't ferget the litter I was just printin up my "CB's Auto Body" sign for my gayrage when I got yer message.....
  4. Nice work Bob! Nice colors, paint, and stance, and like Gramps says, yeah, them chrome steelies and whitewalls are real kickers! Glad ya didn't chop it, even tho chops are cool, nice to see some that aint - and this is a nice one! What's next?
  5. Hey Robert, you say you gotta trailer from the 76 Caprice. Is it set up to pull a race car? Coz I'm thinkin mebbe hookin my trailer with my gasser (and trophy) on it to the 66Chevelle wagon runnin the 396. I am hopin to get a cool truck, more period correct, sometime down the road. Just wonderin.....I spose you could do that in 1:1.
  6. Ratline - I like! Even funnier, how bout Robert's 50 Ford pickemup pullin your 41, whats pullin yer trailered 51, with my 51 chained to yer trailer, and I'm in my rat runnin circles around ya'll
  7. That's lookin mighty fine Gramps. I'll bet yer purty excited George! Hey, you said you were gonna make the brass hinges for the doors. Any chance we can see that? Years ago I did a lot of woodworkin, makin knick knacks, little boxes, wall clock, etc, and used to make my own brass hinges using sheet brass stock and brass rod. Twere'nt all that hard to do. I'm assummin yers are gonna be a li'l different from regular door hinges? Ya know, Gramps, George, mebbe my computer screen is part o my problem, coz yer alley gay-rage is lookin kinda pink, George! You gonna have a sign on it?
  8. Wow Gramps! Thanks, I was just gonna sit down and do some figurin my ownself. I printed up a couple of the pics I took and then I realized I tore apart my drafting divider so's I could use it as a scribing tool on the rat! Doggone it! I was gonna check to see the figures you gave me on the man door and here you done gone ahead an figgered the garage doors too. I'm just gonna go with your figures and see how it looks. Thanx again buddy!
  9. Very nice 40, John, and really cool striping/painting idea! I'd have a hard time restraining myself, not putting more stripes down. You got it just right.
  10. I'm with George, Jeff: Thanx for sharing your in progress pix. I think the coolest thing about this 'On the workbench' forum is seeing the start of these rods and the mind blowing finish of them, coz sometimes I look at the initial mock up and I just can't imagine it lookin good when it's done. Glad to say that just about everyone that posts here has some kinda 'vision' of their rod and they make it work. I think your p/u is an excellent example of dat! and it aint even 'done' yet. Mind if'n me & George go cruisin' in it while yer workin on your other rods?
  11. What's the problem with the injector marks Florian? I'd say if they aint in the way of yer glass or anything don't mess with them, but if they gotta go, hmmmmmm.......maybe very carefully slide a Xacto knife thru the door windows and slice just a little off at a time, or if they aint stickin down too much, maybe put a small piece of sandpaper on the end of a dowel, say 1/2" diameter, or something similar and carefully sand em off. That'd make a good pic - yer 41 pushin my 51 and pullin yours specially when yer 41 hits my oil slick and starts spinnin and smokin
  12. Whatta ya do bout them tars what aint got no valves in 'em George? oh,and btw, do you work on pink cars?
  13. Nice rat, Eric! Tha's one rat I wouldn't wanta run into in some dark alley. Has a "aint afraid to run it" look. Love how you weather yer models too. Weird, but it's almost like you can 'hear' this thing runnin, just from lookin at it
  14. I done did it again -- forgot to ask ya Gramps, wonder if they make a 51 convert kit anymore? I spose you could always cut the top off a sedan tho. You remember if this was one of them drug store models?
  15. Yeah, I'm just kiddin Florian. That's what's so great about this here forum - we all oughta have an Old Milwaukee (well I guess you can't Florian ) coz "it don't get any better'n this!" Yer lucky yer a 'punk kid' -Gramps & I wish we could be 'punk kids' again! I'm into metal and hardcore myself and some punk. Thanx fer the love o my rusty rat. Can't wait to get it under glass, if they'll let it in there. Whatta ya think of Gramps' fittyone convert? Zat cool or what? It's even got 'RATO' --"rocket assist take off"!! Them taillight lenses aint showin the chains what hold em on when you hits the button Gramps! That is one sweet bobby soxer lookin cruisin machine! Whatcha gonna do widdit?
  16. Now yer talkin, Florian! Coolness! I was thinkin of doing the tow truck thing too, specially now, since I'm gonna build "CBs Auto Body" diorama, but I'll just use yours - when you aint busy towing yer gasser off the strip ! Can't wait to see this 41 come alive. Hope you get it an alignment job ! You'll be lucky to get yer gasser to the strip with the wheels on that 41 wobblin all over the place! You goin with yer red steelies?
  17. Thanks Gramps! I knew I could count on you to figure that out for me! I gots tons of room -for now anyhows - I may hafta move into an apartment one of these days, but until then, I'm gonna make this. Any advice on a measuring device? I was gonna make myself a 'ruler' with 1/25 scale 'feet' on it, each .48" long. I've done that before and it's close enuff for grenades . Lookin forward to doin the metal panels more than anything. Is George's ghetto gonna have a removable roof?
  18. Nice 'fun' build, Dave! Cool to see kits like this detailed like this! I always liked the "Weird Ohs" myself and keep putting off getting one & building it - just for fun! Always nice to see your work, and nice to see your equipment too ! Really dig your 'Street Rod Batmobile' ..........am I detecting wood?
  19. Tha's lookin real nice Gramps, but don't be goin overboard! it's just for George fer cryin out loud! you lucky dawg George! Hey Gramps, I like the effect you got on the posterboard from rubbing it? Is it gonna be cement, or stucco, or what? I decided that I'm probly gonna be building some more of these 125s & I best have someplace to put em, so I gonna build me a place too - "CBs Auto Body" Here's a picture of what I'm gonna base it on. Owned by my neighbor's Grandpap. Back in the day, he sold gas, and fords . I got my first car here when I was 15 -a 57 Chevy 4door with the 235 six in it. Bill, the owner, had a daughter, and fer her graduation he bought her a brandy new 57 Tbird, salmon ugly color, port hole removeable hardtop, and conti bumper. It was a stick, she didn't like, so it sat in his garage at home, right next to our yard, for 25 years! We used to look at it thru the windows. His grandson lives there now and restored it. Basically, just put new tires on it, washed the dust off and takes it to the cruises. I think it's got probly 3 or 4 thousand miles on it. I can guarantee ya, aint gonna be no model of dat in my place !! aint gonna have no stinkin, almost pink, ford smellin up 'CBs Auto Body'--- "If **it happens, come see the ######'n!"
  20. Don't know what it is Gramps, guess I'm bein tempted, coz I find myself thinkin, ever once ina whiles, bout painting sumpin pink........but then I gets over it - until the next time . Thanx for the kind words. I feel honored that you are impressed. I'm actually impressed myself. couple times I thought bout just throwin together just to getr done, but............mebbe if'n it were a ford . Nah........I can't do dat. Love to see you redo the vert. I can just imagine it now -low, with skirts & spotlights, and your trademark discs...........oh man, I'm gettin goosebups
  21. I be feelin as old as the OL Dude at times George so I guess its naturl Just hope I can come close to his buildin level, but I'll be 96 by the time I get 40 years worth of dusty models shelved. Course, at the rate I'm goin I'll probly only need 1 - maybe 2 at the most - shelves . Glad you're diggin the memories. I found out from my Dad that when I was a toddler I was ridin in a 51 4door bowtie. Sounds like they didn't come with turn signals in 'em? I think I've seen that before, just don't know where or when. I thought about drillin those little turn signal 'grilles' (?) out but I don't wanna overdo things ! I gotta practise so's I'll be ready when it's time to plumb the straight 6 I'm gonna put in my 51 gasser to show up that punk kid Florian when he pulls his 51 up to the tree with its nose up in the air . Can't wait to get Florian's gasser and mine together with that Christmas tree! He done give me the bug! Thanks Florian!!
  22. Gettin the chrome 'aged'. Worked on headlight buckets, hogged out grille, and front bumper today. Thinned ends of bumper, scraped flash and ruff edges, scraped chrome off in strategic spots. Applied orange-ish acrylic paint to which I brushed on pastel dust of a rusty color. 5 pix in the album. I don't know what the problem is, but I can't seem to insert more than 1 photo. I go back to Fotki to grab another, come back here, and the first pic is gonzo. Unless somebody can show me how to do this without it taking all freakin day, I gotta do it this way, coz I gotta spend most of the rest of the day here doin freakin housewife ######. So the link below is to the album. Sorry, best I can do. Oh yeah....... half a nice day everbody http://public.fotki.com/V866/ratgetsrusty/
  23. Good idea George! I've had that shirt for bout 3 years now -waaaaaaay before that Fleetliner was a tickle in me wallet
  24. I remember them days Gramps. I'd almost say them 'good old days', but I'm havin some purty good days right now. still weird tho, payin 4-5 times more for the models --but I gotta have 'em !!
  25. Just paid $35 for the truck trailer kit today Gramps. I gotta get me another Fleetliner to make a gasser to rub Florians nose in it, but they had a classic kit (used?) of a 51 sedan for $30 which I thought about gettin, but didn't. I knew if we kept after Gramps we'd get us some answers. How bout it Led, & Florian? Ol Gramps is revealin all his secrets.........(don't say anything! ) Didja catch that George? Bill didn't just drill them holes high up in the frame to lower the front end!--he had to make sure he ran the axle thru the oil pan so's that Hemi wouldn't just pop right back outa that engine compartment!
