Machine Aluminum Spec. ?????
chris coller replied to Tom Kren's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I believe he lives in one of the Carolina's and posts items for sale on ebay from time to time. I had emailed him and the website is the same with his updated info. Hope this helps. Also says to be carrying the full line of products. And as a matter of fact I do believe he has posted on here as well! -
That is simply WICKED COOL!

Gonna have to say model! -
Man that looks good! When I was 8 I painted a 4 or 5 times in a weekend with results not even close to that. Mighty fine job. Keep building!

Yeah I know what you mean. I wanted to do a pretty detailed build with the Lark car, but there was alot of work to do. Man oh man jusst to cut out the vents was a nightmare. The body was cast so clean and then you flip it over chassisi to body fit was atrocious. The one other thing I was most disappointed with was the decal fit. Would have been nice if the made the decals a bit larger to allow for overlap. Had gaps in the decals and had to touch it up with Tamiya Light Gunmetal. Close in color but not an exact match. So over all with the trashing I just did I was for the most part happy with thse final result as to how the car turned out. The one thing I can say about the Studio 27 kits is it's nice to see the types of cars they do produce. I like to build all types of cars. Studio 27 and Model Factory Hiro has some awesome kits. Sometimes I thing I cant justify the cost, but in turn the amount of aftermarket goodies I put in my latest buils it might balance out. Have you built any M.F.H kits? Better quality or about the same as Studio 27?

Thanks for the info. I bought the Lark McClaren a few years back for around $140. Although i did like the kit for that price I would have figured it would have been a little nicer. Biggest complaint is the tires. Whats with the extra rubber. Are the newer Studio 27 kits the same way?

Very interested in building this car in the future. What you have accomplished so far looks awesome. Any way you passing along the info on not having to pay the $180 retail price? Keep up the good work cant wait to see this finished.

Replicas of Maryland is a great source. Also try Pro Tec or Detail Master.I think the Detail Master ones come with the MSD stickers. Dont believe they are decals. Could be wrong though!

MODEL CAR CONTESTS AND CLUBS.
chris coller replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Man oh man, so many good points here. My head is spining! I also agree competition brings out the best and drives you to take anything you do the next level. That is all healthy to me. Now not everyone has that mantality though. There will always be winners and losers, people that feel great and other that have feelings hurt. Sad thing is, it's a part of life. There are far more thing worse in life than not winning. Most of us can walk, talk. and and do pretty much what we want when want. Think of those less fortunate. All this being reminded by my mother yesterday after a less than stellar week. I enjoy the fact of sitting down in my living room watching hockey or some movie and being totally entranced by what I am working on. And then taking it to contests and club meetings and showcasing my skills and new build. Bottom lining it here I agree everyone likes to feel like a winner but it doesnt get handed to you. How would any of you feel if a judge just walked up to you and just handed you trophy with out looking at anyone elses builds? Do you believe it was earned? That is what competition is for. Contests for me are motivation! Have fun and keep building. Sorry for being redundant!! -
MODEL CAR CONTESTS AND CLUBS.
chris coller replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I also think it depends on who is hosting the events. I have been to local shows and shows in Jersey, New York, Maryland, and obviously PA. I have had success and also have been a victim of the bias judging. But all in all I cant complain. I to view it as a social eventto get to know the other builders and talk shop. The biggest thrill I get is having peole ask me how I did something, where I got something, etc. I will touch on some complaining I have witnessed even from a close builder friend of mine. But also mentioned areas of improvement he should work on just to clean up his work some. He is getting better and increasing his skills. Which is great cause it motivates me a s well. All in all this is a great hobby that I have got to say has helped me get through tough times in my life. It also is a humbling experience at the same time. When I go to a contest and see some of the other talent that also is motivation to try new things, get ideas, and maybe just buils something I normally wouldnt build. Bottom line is build for yourself and enjoy the hobby. Take the "not winning a trophy and being upset attitude" and use that as possitive motivation to improve. There are alot of great builders out there to talk to and dont be affraid to ask questions! -
I stole ideas from Dave Thibodeau (hope I spelled it right? sorry Dave if I didnt) I utilized it from his Warren Johnson Grand Am. And I believe the modern pro stocks, hemi's and semi hemi's are designed this way as well. Hope that helps.

Reference needed: Earnhardt's '98 Daytona winner
chris coller replied to ismaelg's topic in WIP: NASCAR
If you feel up to detailing a bit the MCG No Bull detail set has reference sheet and goobs of little details from engine bay, roof flaps, trunk details window bracing......etc. About 100 or so photo etch pcs. About $40 US worth it if you want to do some detailing. -
Love the shaker hood! Car is cool too. Ok it is wickedly original
