I'll throw my vote in here for the '67-'72 Chevy truck as it one of the most popular trucks of all time. As a model, it's saddled with annual era tooling design. Throw in a '67 Camaro off the Revell '69 Camaro tooling and I'd be in heaven. In terms of body proportions, the only "right" '67 Camaro was the original annual. The newer tool by AMT definitely has some issues.

What Type of Modeler are you??
LOBBS replied to Romell R's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
#2 and #4 here. I don't think I've built anything straight from the box since I was a kid unless you count the ones I've helped my own kids build. -
Having dealt with Don both on the phone and through e-mail I would not hesitate to place an order again with him. I personally have not had a single issue with him, either with the delivery or the quality of the products that he casts.

Home-made paint booths seem to be a popular subject
LOBBS replied to LOBBS's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Finally getting back to this project. I hate painting without a booth and I can't get back to building with out painting. I'm riveting this booth together and the idea of laying out a couple of hundred holes got me looking for a better solution. So I finally came up with an idea while inspecting some aerospace assemblies we were doing at work. Most aerospace assemblies rely on a handful of tightly toleranced (for size and location) holes to temporarily fit mating parts. When using these ATA or "Advanced Technology Assembly" holes, mating pieces are pinned while the rest of the pilot holes are drilled to size and riveted. When the other holes are done the ATA holes are finished up. In this spirit, I found this piece of angle in the scrap bin. After truing it up, I got four holes put in it with a 5" spacing a 1/2" off the inner bend. With this little tool, I only have to worry about locating one hole dead center along the edge of a panel, attach my bracket and drill the other 3 in perfect relationship. On the longer panels, I can walk my bracket to the next set of holes and repeat the process always assured of 5" spacing a 1/2" off the bend. It's a simple little thing but will save a ton of time when it comes to banging this booth out. -

Food Dehydrators & Paint Dryers
LOBBS replied to JayVee's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've had one of these Nesco dehydrators for years and got it for under $40 during hunting season. Lowest temp setting is 95 degrees on mine. I've got an extra set of trays. Half have the centers cut out for bodies and assemblies, the other half are original. I've left it running at 95 degrees for years at a time with absolutely no harm whatsoever to anything inside. Thanks for posting these Len. I forgot to check the batteries on my camera and they died right after I got to the show.

Looking for someone to cast a transmission for me
LOBBS replied to LOBBS's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The casting does look to be top notch on that transmission however it appears to be either a Viper or Mustang version of the tranny. I remember awhile back sending MAD an email regarding the source of the master. I've sent Kris a PM to see if he'll cast up the one from the Revell Camaro/Firebird for me. -
KC Slammers show
LOBBS replied to route66modeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Another great show. I got to put some faces with names and picked up a few things. Entries seemed to be down a little this year probably due to the economy and NASCAR race in town. -

I burned through my clear coat the other night, so I won't have anything on the table. I'll keep an eye out for you guys. I'll probably be wearing my black Eric Berry #29 Chiefs jersey with my two older boys in tow. -
Cool little longroof going on there.

Only your 5th model? Looks great, love them Novas.

Well it's that time of year again...
LOBBS replied to thesnake87's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There's a guy around here that has a Cortez Silver '69 Camaro for sale. He puts it out on the street side of his car lot and I have to pass by it every summer on the way to work. It's beautifully done but he's got to be asking a fortune for it because it's now been out there at least the last three years. -
That's a beautiful 1:1. I almost bought a similiar '72 back in high school but I couldn't drive a stick at the time so I passed. Beating my head on the table now a days for letting it go.

I'll be there. I hope with the down economy some of our out of town friends that usually make the trip up will be there. It's just a short hop from the east side of KC to the west side for me. -
Thanks for the info. There's a place here in Missouri that carries a good chunk of their line. They don't show everything they have on their site and aren't coming to the Heartland Nats this weekend so I'll probably end up ordering directly from Germany.

Beautiful job on Eleanor. How was the Scale Productions stuff to work with? They've got a lot of cool stuff but I've been leary to pull the trigger as I haven't seen there stuff built up before.

Wow, that weathering job is as real as can be.

Stunning paint job and detail.

I know that the Lonestar wasn't necessarily the rig that all truckers wanted tooled up. However, viewing it from a "car" guy's perspective, it's a cool rig and the detail is top notch. I've always wanted a rig and car hauler combo for my diorama/display case race shop I'm building. I picked up a T600 and an old AMT race hauler years ago to fill the need but could never get excited enough about either one so they got Ebayed. The only disappointment I've had in the whole matter is the lack of modern trailers. To get what I want, I've got to either try to convert one of the European race haulers from Italeri or completely scratchbuild a Featherlite. At the glacial pace that I build, there may be someone who finally jumps in and fills the trailer need by the time I actually get my Lonestar done. In any case, this kit is drawing in those in the hobby that may not have ever considered building a tractor. Whether they buy one, two or ten they're still driving sales which increases the odds that more modern trucks will be done. Who knows, the Lonestar may be the only rig I ever build or may be the start of a long line for me. I've seen a lot of cool subjects doing my normal pre-starting a project research that definitely have the wheels turning in my head.

Tamiya - First the primers... NOW THE BLACKS!!!
LOBBS replied to Drake69's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Years ago I made a habit out of picking up a can of clear, black, semi-gloss black and flat black Tamiya every time I went to the hobby shop whether I needed it or not. I'm stocked up until Armageddon if need be.
