Love the SS-X concept myself. Great execution

I'd think a light tan or saddle brown would be in order for that color combo if you were going to lean away from the green.

Looking much more like a Jeep. Unfortunately, I ran into an issue on Thursday night with binding as I slipped the body over the chassis that is causing the body to balloon out. Being out of town Friday and Saturday, I didn't get the Jeep done in time for the Heartland Nats today. Oh well, I have a chance now to build the custom roll cage and light bars I wanted instead of the kits pieces I was going to use to make the show.

Moebius - Now that the Comet is out, What's Next
LOBBS replied to Swifster's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Please, please a modern tool of the '67-72 Chevy truck. Short bed preferred. -
I just saw the '17 Camaro SS 1LE at the LHS and am severely disappointed that it's a snap kit. It appeared the rear spoiler and front splitter were separate pieces. What I really need to know to do a kit bash with the full detail '16 Camaro SS or the '17 Fifty Edition is if AMT actually took the time to tool up the wider wheels and tires of the 1LE or did they just fit the new wheels to the old SS tires. The 1:1 1LE tires are 40mm wider up front and 30mm in the back which is more than 1.25". It's a pretty major visual difference and one that model car companies are notoriously lazy at keeping up with.

I like where this build is headed. Great work

Cup o dirt that my daughter just brought me. Sure there's chalks and whatnot to simulate muck in scale but nothing looks more real than the real thing. Time to grab the strainer and keep the finest silt and get some filth on the chassis of the Jeep.

Final coat of clear on. Second attempt at the body as the cat knocked it over on the final wet coat last weekend. I'm really impressed with the white Jeep decals in this kit. I've had white ones in the past that were printed too thinly and the base coat showed thru. These are strong enough that's it almost impossible to tell that they're decals at all. On my first attempt, I used the black but glad I went with white this time. Plays off the OD Green theme really well. I'm not terribly concerned with a show car finish given it's an off roader but I had a little orange peel that I'll have to polish out so into the dehydrator for a day or two nap.

Interior coming together. First time using embossing powder. A heavy brush coat of XF-1 gave me the sprayed in Line-X bedliner look I was after on the interior tub.

Not sure why I keep getting locked out of the site for stretches at a time when I try to log in from my phone but assembly is now in progress. Dry brushing some trail damage to the underside of the Jeep is complete. Once I get the wheels on and up on all fours I'll add in some real dirt for more effect.

Managed to get a base coat of Tamiya OD Green 2 down over to Duplicolor gray primer to get a feel for the color. I'll lay down a few wet coats today. If time permits, the rest of the parts are primarily shades of black and a few stainless pieces so I should be able to get them shot today as well.

I found that this AMT '17 Camaro SS 1LE is due out soon but unfortunately as a snap kit. If they manage to get the visual changes that come with the 1LE i.e. the front splitter, rear spoiler, wheel and tires (please, please let the wheels and tires be the proper, wider width in comparison to the regular SS. That's what really sets the meaner look of the 1LE apart) correct how difficult would it be to swap them over to the full-detail '16 Camaro SS or '17 Fifty Edition? I would imagine a great deal of the tooling has to be shared and that the bodies would be interchangeable or the parts would be separate. I'm seriously considering ordering a '17 1LE in 1:1 to replace my '10 Camaro 2SS/RS and would love a model of it.

I saw this the other day as well. After some digging I saw that AMT also has a 2017 Camaro SS 1LE coming but it is a snap kit. I hope the body can be swapped onto the full detail 2016 Camaro SS or the 2017 Fifty Edition if it's full detail. That and please, please have the tires and wheels actually be wider on the 1LE than they are on the regular SS. It's a huge part of what gives the 1LE it's killer look. I'm seriously debating ordering a 1:1 1LE to replace my '10 Camaro 2SS/RS

I'll have to dig thru my hard drive for old pics of my first go with the Rubicon. I can't seem to get into my old Photobucket account. The Jeep was my first attempt at weathering so I'll attempt to improve upon that for sure

Bought a kit for the first time in years last night. I paced the rack for about 20-30 minutes looking for a simple project to get myself back in the game that didn't give me the urge to kit bash, scratch build and ultra detail the heck out of it. This pretty much eliminated any pro-touring or modern sports car fodder. I whittled my stash down to about a half dozen or so projects a few years ago. Each has a definite plan in place all with a fair amount of modifications. I had the original Tomb Raider diecast that I displayed for years on a shelf at work until a co-worker bounced it off the floor. The only thing that I really remember having an issue with was the fact there was no inner door panel on the tailgate. This should be a fun little curbside to get my skills back in practice.

Actually picked this up last weekend but it is the first car that I've owned that I can actually build a model of. 2010 Camaro 2SS/RS in Inferno Orange with the Inferno Orange leather interior. She had just shy of 9500 miles on her when I brought her home last Saturday.

Yep, there are a couple of sets from Scale Production that will probably end up in my stash. I like a lot of the Hobby Design wheels but they rarely come with tires. If I knew the Aoshima tires would fit reasonably well on the Hobby Design wheels I'd have a ton of those. Ma's Resin casts the Aoshima tires at a pretty good price.

I use sanding sticks from a local beauty supply store. They come in various grits. Just use the heavier grits to remove most of the material from the back then switch to the lighter grits once you get close. I don't like using power tools for this kind of work so it can be a long process but it's worth it.

Here's the website for VCG. For more info on what I've sent Manny to cast there is a thread in the Resin and Aftermarket section. http://vcgresin.atspace.com

Kinda bouncing around between projects taking inventory of where I left off. '69 Pro-Touring Camaro with one of the LS7 crate motors that I had cast by VCG. Everything will be shaved in short order and I've got a couple of cans of Hugger Orange in the stash. Right now, I've got it mocked up with some Aoshima Model F7 wheels which are my second choice. If I can ever find a good shot of the BBS F1s from the Revell Ferrari 599 GTO with some kind of reference piece for size I'll go that route. In 1:1, the 599 GTO setup is perfect for this project but I've come to not trust Revell with wheels and tires and sizing. Opened up the grill. I picked up these airbags years ago from Arrowhead Aluminum. Bellows up front and conical out back. I'm going for a full Air-Ride system so I'll also have to fab up some control arms up front and the mounting system for the rear subframe. And finally, the LS7 with the T-56 manual six-speed from VCG.

69 Dodge Daytona Platinum with red interior
LOBBS replied to KevinMoparFord's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Love the color. Is that the Bright Platinum from the Model Master lacquer line or from someone else?
