  1. To each his own. I've got a stay at home wife and four kids so I know a thing or two about living frugally. I still can't imagine cutting corners on certain things like tools or safety.
  2. Pretty much gonna echo what has been said about the Revell F-bodies. You can mix and match the rest of the goodies from the Revell C5 Vettes, C6 Vettes, Silverados and SSRs to get just about any LSx motor in scale. The F-bodies will get you the T-56 stick shift; the Silverado and SSR the automatic. Here's my Revell LSx crate motor for my '69 Nova: '02 Camaro block and tranny. C5 Vette accesories, intake, heads and beauty covers Silverado oil pan
  3. I'll take you for your word on that. I've seen so many Camaros without that trim that I never would have guessed that it was standard issue. In any case, I'm an absolute minimalist when it comes to cars and chrome so it's one less thing that has to come off.
  4. That's how I got back into the hobby as an adult. I had hernia surgery and was off for a couple of weeks. I was surfing the internet looking at 1:1 car stuff and got into a 1:1 forum that had a scale section. I was blown away by how far the hobby had come with the aftermarket PE and resin stuff, quality of paint jobs and detailing, etc. since I had built as a kid. Next thing I knew I was stocking up on kits and supplies. Great job on your builds. A co-worker of mine is an avid ship modeler, I'm the model car guy and another buddy there is into trains. We can get some interesting shop talk going on when we start into our respective hobbies.
  5. I really wish MCG would offer those valve covers separately.
  6. It's really hard to find fault with Revell's 1/25th '69 Camaro.
  7. It's a whole lot faster on my phone. Not that I would use my phone to check the board while I was at work or anything.
  8. I've had a Nesco with the trays cut out for years and love it. I'll usually leave it as low as it goes (95 F) and let it do its thing. I've never once had any issues with softening plastic or resin.
  9. I posted my manifesto with the answers to global macroeconomics, ensuring peace and equality for all, solving climate change and proving cold fusion. I've slept since then so it's all lost to the digital abyss.
  10. If anyone wants to pass on the big inch rims/tires I'd be glad to take them off your hands.
  11. All right, I'm jealous. I still haven't found time to get started on the one for my Lonestar. Great work.
  12. Very, very clean work. Great job with the detailing.
  13. I can say I used to get frustrated at times back in my younger days. It was especially hard for me to miss finishing up a project for an artificial deadline like a show. It never failed that if I pushed too hard or got upset I'd end up screwing up whatever I was working on and have to start over or repair it. Like most of the guys here have said you just have to recognize your limits and walk away if you have to.
  14. You've definitely come to the right place if you're looking to make your way back into the hobby. What kind of mods do you have planned?
  15. Are the tires that come in the kit the standard issue California Wheels tires ('66 Chevelle wagon, '67 Chevelle, '64 Chevy truck) or something different?
  16. No offense taken Gregg. I don't mind having $250 ($150 if you consider that I sold my last booth to get the seed money for this one) in my booth when the only other carbon-filtered, downdraft hobby booth of a similiar size starts around $570. Artograph 1530 I've been in manufacturing my entire adult life and one of the tidbits of knowledge I've picked up is to always buy the best tools/equipment that you can afford. I'll have a lot less in this booth than what I can pay someone else for and it will be customized exactly as I want it. This is my third go around building my own downdraft with Klaus' instructions, improving on design and materials each time. My Dayton blower is rated at 273 cfm @ 0 SP. A downdraft booth should be pulling 50 feet per minute. That is in contrast to a crossdraft or updraft booth that requires 100 feet per minute. I selected this particular blower as it would provide me with 100 feet per minute through standard filters and no exhaust. Since I am choosing to run slightly more restictive carbon filters, this fan will still have plenty of pull no matter what ducting I go with.
  17. At the risk of being sacrilegious, there are some styling cues I don't care for on the tri-fives. I love the 1:1 '57 from every angle but the front 3/4 view. Something about how the spear terminates behind the headlight bucket has always struck me as "off". I've debated doing a "naked" mild custom '57 shaving off the side trim and molding all the other chrome details into the body for a modern-car monochrome type appearance. I haven't been able to find anything close to my idea through Google searching so I'm having some difficulty visualizing the finished product. I don't care for the '56 at all so it's out. I'm feeling drawn now to the '55 after seeing several customized street rod style builds during my '57 research. The only thing I don't really like about the Revell '55 hardtop in the extension on the rear spear down to the bumper. I much prefer just the spear by itself like on your gold build. I'm wanting to do a tri-five for the "fleet" just don't know which way to go. If you see an AMT '57 Street Machine and ProShop kit hit the swap section I've decided to go Revell '55.
  18. I'll get some more pics up hopefully this weekend. Life keeps pulling me away from getting this thing finished.
  19. That's just sinister.

    66 ElCamino

I've never been a huge fan of chrome so I love the toned down look. Great job on the Elky.
  21. Take care Matthew. It's always tough when a furry loved one passes. We'll be here when you're ready to come back.
  22. Thanks for posting up the pics. I wanna do a custom tri-five and I'm still up in the air whether to stick with the newer-tool AMT '57 I've already got or go with the new-tool Revell '55. There's a lot I like and dislike about each.
  23. Thanks for the heads up, a little easier to do a custom that way.
  24. Just looking to clarify. On the 1:1 the rear trim is a separate piece, is it a separate piece on the kit also?
  25. I've had my eye on that one for years waiting for him to finally budge on that Buy-it-now price.
