  1. There you go, spilling secrets, telling truths, getting people killed... It's all on you now buddy. There are people that now have to go deep undercover because of you. Change their names, relocate, have facial reconstructive surgery, learn wierd accents, just to keep on living. I hope your happy now...
  2. For me, some songs actually inspire some builds. Metalica's "Devil's Dance" made me think of a pro-mod '70 429 Boss with a black top and dark gray sides, blacked out trim and black 19" bbs wheels. The name of the car, of course, is Devil's Dance... I usually toss a few cd's into the changer and let 'em cycle. They can be almost anything but I usually stick to rock, metal and smooth jazz. That, or I'll put the tv on science or sci-fi... Funny you mentioned this. I'll work on a kit I haven't touched in 20+ years and will remember the exact TV show that was on the last time I was working on it...
  3. When I saw the first part of the thread, I was thinking "lucky dog..." But then I saw Jairus' post and thought "oh, now I feel guilty for finding a complete and unstarted metal plated body Tamiya Ferrari 360 for $2 at a yard sale" But now it's okay... I've come to terms with my Jealousy and Guilt and am happy with myself...
  4. Not meaning to change directions but how about an old style racing injected V6 along the the first set of wheels that look like the old Minilites? Would make an awesome GT-esque style street racer. As for color, how about a dark silver main body, matching wheel centers and black GT stripes, along with monochromed bumpers, blacked out trim, a blacked out grill and tail. Put a modest airdam painted black and maybe a small rear deck lip to give it that street racer look. Any way you build and any color you choose, I am sure it will be a terrific looking car. Keep up the good work!
  5. The Great Race The Worlds Fastest Indian: Great historic land speed cars...
  6. That's the one I am working through right now. Though, from my impressions, there are no undead in it. The gouls are just irradiated humans in various decompositions. Those Ferals are quick!!! Luckily, a shotgun blast to the head usually sends parts flying... Anyone ever think about doing a model of any of those really cool looking cars in that game? There is a nice model of one in the penthouse of Tenpenny Towers but you can't interact with it (pick it up). I got a shelf full of NukaCola trucks and toy cars at my house... Even in a game, I collect little cars.
  7. Just my 2 cents... In most cases, Foose does more than just slap fancy paintjobs on the cars. He does subtle modifications like takes an inch out of the bumpers and tucks em close to the body so the don't look like afterthoughts, and drops an inch out of the front roofline to get more flow. Many of his changes are so subtle, you never know its fixed, you just know it looks better than stock. Foose, if your listening, call my wife and she'll tell you EXACTLY where my car is... If you look at some of his creations like the Grand Master, Impressions and the like, I don't think there is a whole lot of an original car left, if any. Though these were based on actual cars, after all the mods and work that goes into them, they are one of a kind customs. Oh, and, um, Tucker. Didn't he modify an existing car to build his initial design, or was that just movie hype? I love to watch all the great customizers from Overhaulin, Rides, American Hot Rod and as many other shows as I can fit on my DVR. Even though I didn't like Boyd's attitude and business practices, (how many of the builds on AHR had a realistic timeline where noone had to work overtime or come in on weekends or holidays?) I certainly admired his vision to customize cars and ability to get the right people for the job. I more saddened by the loss of Roy than I was for Boyd. BTW, did anyone ever notice that people kept dissapearing from American HotRod and showing up on Overhauling??? Now, about the build. Like it was told to me "Awesome job on a turd of a kit!" I, too, have done this kit and though I liked it, both my body and chassis were warped to where it did the low rider three wheel bit. I had to snap it apart again and shave sections until they fit. My wife also had a hand in the creation, she picked the interior color (what is it with women and red?) Anyone up for a "Post your Smoothster" post?
  8. The good news is this one is available... The bad news is it cost $165... It does come with James Dean! http://www.islandcollectiblesinc.net/prod02101.htm
  9. The first choice really speaks to me but the last one is way cool too. The other two wheel sets seem a bit too modern. The first pic with the Watanabe's reminds me of the Cosworth Vegas. I saw a '76 about a year ago on the road. It was black with gold wheels. Looked really good and at $5000 with another parts Cosworth, I was pretty tempted. Are there any kits out there with a DOHC cosworth head for that little, all aluminum 140? The Weldstars are a great look for a bracket or street racer. Shoehorning a small block chevy in a Vega was all the rage in the '70s and '80s. Heck, they even put big blocks in them things that would break the tires loose on a full power shift from 3rd to 4th... I had a '76 coupe that I hot-rodded the 140 with Crane, Hooker and Holley and it was pretty fast and lots of fun to drive, and a '74 wagon with a 350 in it that had trouble keeping the back tires from spinning...
  10. It'll sit a little lower, as this isn't a "DONK MACHINE" this time .
  11. Hmm... Boy, ya got sum sectionin' ta do...
  12. The Lindberg Little Red Express has one too. How does that one shape up for accuracy?
  13. That's what it looks like to me. The front and valve covers are very distinctive of the 427SOHC.
  14. Having seen this one in person, I can tell you the more you look, the more you see. And, you would never have known it was a slammer. If I remember, it placed in a non-slammer category. Awesome work to be sure! If you get a chance, check out is big block V6 powered Chevy! Of course, that might lead to another project...
  15. According to Revell, they are coming out again. See topic: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20332
  16. I just caught an episode and thought it was pretty good. It had Jimmy Shine in it from SoCal. As for actually piloting those vehicles. You do know they are using live rounds, right? A round from a 50 cal will rip through the armor and body of the vehicle, through your body and out the other side of the armor and vehicle... I think in the bunker is the best place for them... A while back, I made a few cars for a game called Car Wars, traditionally played on a table top where the cars were only about an inch long. Needless to say, it didn't work in 1/25th scale...hehe Didn't have a big enough area. I might have to break them out of they're plastic bags and get some pics. Got a badman, rx7 and a rabbit in there.
  17. I was thinking bubble top from a 50's Bird or such. Heck, just make your own Barris-Starbird-Fink funky custom! I have a box where all this type of nifty stuff resides. Maybe someday, I'll do something with all those cool bubble pack shapes. Ever shop in the toys where the action figures and toys are? Lots of interesting shapes there. Luckily, I got a little boy so I can buy them for him and keep the bubble packaging...hehe
  18. Actually, it looks like something Boyd dug up in Oklahoma!?!?
  19. It appears in the pictures that the window frame on the door is warped. Is this the case? If so, you may be able to gently heat it up a bit with a hair dryer and persuade it back to where it needs to go.
  20. I've heard of this before somewhere. Like, Maybe in the 60's when Shelby came over with a better car than his little GTOs... It seems to me old man Ferrari is again saying "If I can't win my way, I'm taking my toys and going home..." All I can say is chao, baby! Mind you, I have nothing against the old man and his beautiful cars, but hey, if you can't take the heat... Whithout rules, regulations and limits, even Nascar would look more like Speed Racer right now.
  21. I usually remove the parts I am working on so that I can clean up the mold lines and do any detailing needed, drill holes, reshape, etc... Mold lines are a big thing for me. I don't want anyone to see any mold lines anywhere on my models. Hard to clean mold lines while they are still on the sprue. There have been whole threads on using the sprue for different projects. Exhaust, antennas, roll cages, etc... My faves from my buildings are engine pulleys (chuck it in a drill and use files and sandpaper to shape), a fuel level indicator (stretch clear sprue like your making an antenna, put on the outside of a fuel tank with a couple of brass fittings-plastic squares- and paint it thinned amber part the way up) and all sorts of other things. Happy fun to be sure.
  22. Considering most of my parts are off the sprues long before the build is done, due to detailing and such, I usually don't miss any parts. Once the model is completed, I clean the sprues of any remaining parts, keep or discard the sprues, set the box and instructions aside and sort the remaining parts. I am pretty thorough as I HATE loosing or missing parts! Oh, and once a part is off the sprue, I put it in one of those clear plastic snap shut boxes. That way, I don't loose any of the little bits along the way.
  23. Good article (so far)! I thought about doing one but without the simplicity part... Mine would have been a belt driven labor intesive pain in the... Thanks for putting me on the right path! oh, and for the page four, how about just replying and posting it in the reply?
  24. There are many times where I will remove the chrome and the laquer because it is too thick and obscures the part details. I usually use easy-off in a ziploc. Chrome is gone in seconds but it takes a while for the other paint to soften/go away.
  25. I got two of the Testor's "Those Famous Fords" kits from 1977. I got the GT40 Mk II and a GT40 Mk IV. Only one had the engine block glued together. Other than that, they were complete and unbuilt!
