Ok, well....here goes. This will be a very ambitious WIP and WILL take a while.....my apologies for that right now. It's a subject I've had etched in my mind for some time, though it's only since a lot of these 68-69 bodied Camaro ProMods started gathering interest, that my inspiration took hold.... Originally it was to be "stock" bodied.......that's going back a while. But now..................... Chop, chop......grind, grind...................All of a sudden, I had a body in a million pieces.....well, almost. The roof got chopped, though I will most likely remove another couple of mm before it goes back on. It also got narrowed, or pied (?? does that sound right) Removed a triangular section down the centre line, narrower towards the rear, so it pulled the windscreen in closer at the top front. The front end is getting "squashed" down a little, and lengthened ahead of the fronts, to the max. of 45 scale inches. The rear will be stretched also. The front guards taper towards the centre too, so much that the grill area was narrowed by 11mm on both sides. The "slab" sides will eventually have a nice (but ever so slight) curve towards the ground. And both front and rear wheel openings will be re-shaped. Time, yeah.....I got plenty of time. Between this, the 1/16 Camaro, and a couple of Datsun's.....well.......we shall see how I go, hey. Ok, bare in mind......this is VERY early development.......and VERY rough..................... Plus, I had this started a good time back....(1/12 ProMod Vette.....never finished....oops.) Just making it look a little closed to a BAE engine these guys all want to run these days. I'll make a PSI blower and hat to match as well. Ok, back to the bench for this ol' timer........ More as it happens. cheers Greg

Thanks Chris. Yes, if someone has a secret stash or favourite site for ProMod (chassis mainly) pics that they may wish to share, I'm all ears.....

Hey guys, Up for something fresh...? Received my very welcome package from Terry @ FPM (Flashpoint Motorsport) last Friday. This probably wont see a whole lotta work for a little bit...still gathering some odds'n'ends plus searching for reference....but it's a start...... The body is quite heavy, and a little thick throughout, but that's more to do with keeping it in a secure form I'd say...No big deal. It IS a big body. Once I "open" things up (doors, trunk inspection panel and removable front clip) I'll thin those areas down, to get more scale appearing openings and edges to it. The body..... Motovation will come in the form of a BAE 572 Hemi. PSI blower and hat. Shifting (air) through a Lenco trans. I think this may be a 4-speed...?? Someone confirm that. ?? If so, I'll lop a section out of it......easy. Rear end hardware is styled after a Mark Williams unit. Terry did pretty good with this multi-piece assembly. Should look wicked once it's all together. And what ProMod would be complete without some monster meats in the back.... These are fairly fresh from being molded...Terry has only just added them to his site. Little bit smaller than T/F tyres.....but HUGE ! Ok, give me some time....but updates wont be too far away. cheers guys Greg

Hehehe....Yep, I've started "chopping" up a 1/12 Revell-ogram '69 Z/28 Camaro Derrick. It was an old body I had laying around, after a failed attempt at replicating a race style Camaro (Sunoco or Bob Jane-local Aussie car legend) The rear guards were all hacked up. Though, looking at it now, the whole thing is all hacked up. Still, will be worth it if I can piece it together. Keep an eye out here. Haven't started a thread yet..... And, happy dance time.....got my package off Terry today. Terrific friendly service, and very quick getting it all the way down here to Aus..... New set of ProMod specific rear tyres and a multi-piece Mark Williams style rear end included. Awesome. I'll get some pics and start a thread over the weekend.

Yes Syd, the black leads look more realistic and suited to that much better. They are probably closer to a "factory" look too. Coming along very nicely. (yes, I'm trying to save my penny's, but slow work...)
-
What a great thread.........now just sit back, take a goooood long drink, close one eye, and squint with the other...... This is from about 6-7 years ago, I've gotten much taller now, and more closely resemble Arnie Swatzisname.......
-
Hey Luis, great to see you here mate. The 510 is progressing very nicely. The exhaust header looks like a work of art. Well, the whole build does, actually..... Love the interior details too, the seats look fantastic.!
-
Couldn't agree more Mark. Fabulous to watch. Syd, bet you'd be having no more fun even if you were building 1:1..................Seriously great work mate. Keep'em coming.
-
Cheers Dave. More seriously great work too.......AWESOME mate.!

That IS a nice score, well done. Yep, got the 70.5 ordered a couple of days ago, Terry gave the hint that the new wheels/tyres would be pretty kool... Hey, I just started working on a 69 too......1/12. Body is in shop for serious mods.....

Hey there George. Mate, yes...still plugging away on the Datto. Things slowed down a real lot here over summer, but that's about to change for the better, hopefully..... Been picking away at the doors, adding (one almost finished) inner door detail, as she is going to be a "gutted" interior, thought I'd have a go at the doors too.... Also, come up with two new wild ideas whilst having a break......see, too much free time, you start thinking about new stuff...... The 1/16 70.5 Camaro I ordered off Terry a couple of days ago.....can't wait to start on that one. Big BAE blown motor......woohoo !..... The 1/16 is slightly smaller in size, compared to 1/12, but should still be great for detailing... PLUS........I gone and started another 1/12 project............ 1/12 Camaro ProMod....... IF I can pull it off, it should be pretty kool.... Checked out Cynergy Race cars web for detailed sizing on their fairly new 69 ProMod body.....man, these things get chopped up. So, that's where my 69 Camaro body is at.......very chopped up. Stay tuned George.

Thanks Derrick. Ok, I've had a little look around the 1:16 die-cast section on ebay.....bit too pricey for me to think of stripping one down. Terry has some "new" 5-hole fronts and rears on the way soon.....may need to place another order. Just ordered a 70.5 Camaro, ProMod motor and a few other bits a while ago. And I think I'll stay with plastic too.....much easier to work, hey.
-
Jim, Mate....they look sweet as. Beautiful work mate....... Would dearly love a set, but will probably stay with something resin. Terry has some new 5-hole fronts and rears on the way soon. Thanks for the info though mate. Casey, I bookmarked some of yours on ebay last night..(not knowing they were yours) They look great too mate, nice work. Still up in the air regarding choice yet.....I may wait and see what the one's Terry is doing, look like. Just ordered my other bits and pieces from Terry a short while ago.

Hey guys, Is there a good source of option parts for 1/16 drag cars..? Resin or other media..(die-cast ?) Mainly thinking along the lines of wheels, tyres, fuel cells, anything found on reasonably late model, as in 2007/8 and newer style Pro Mods. I'm looking at getting the 70.5 Xtreme Camaro with Hemi ProMod motor from FlashPoint Motorsport. Waiting to hear back from Terry now. Also checked out the slicks he has on offer too, as I think my old Revell tyres are passed their use by date..... But I'm after a late model set of rims, star or 5-hole style....?? Any of our casters making something similar...? If someone can suggest something, it would be greatly appreciated. cheers Greg

Dave, still enjoying every minute of this. Showed the thread/build to my nephew last night, he's very much a drag racing nut and crews for one of our Aussie Top Doorslammer guys. (Pro Mod equivalent) Had a hard time getting a squeak outta him.....totally speechless. And also VERY impressed, as I am. May I ask the source of the renshape.?? I can't find any thing remotely close down here in Aus. Cheers Greg
-
Oh dear....really in need of a thumbs-up icon please Gregg. Derrick, this is going to be another "must watch" topic to follow. You have my complete attention. May I ask the source of the wheels/tyres..? They look pretty trick too, as well as that swoopy body of course. And what's the plans for the chassis...? Brass or plastic.?? I've just had a looksie at FlashPoint too....the 70 Camaro may need to come my way I think....... Plus a motor, lenco, chutes...... Looking forward to the next instalment. cheers Greg

Thanks very much Adam, glad you like it mate. Thank you too Rodney. Will try and get a pic or three over the course of the weekend. The driver's "position" has been the recipient of my attention....the "race style" seat.....passenger will only get a "sport" seat, aka 240Z Safari version. Working on getting her on wheels too....up-rated front brakes (vented and drilled) are getting fitted. Still a bit to go there...

I have a couple to share. Both builds are from several years ago, both use the Amt 70 Motion Camaro as their base. The first one was kind of a replica of a car which used to cruise regularly, just up the coast from me. Sadly, he went and re-modded it soon after, and made it look terrible... But this is how I remember the beast...... The second build is one I'm most proud and fond of. I'm a bit of a Baldwin Motion freak.....absolutely LOVE these cars. Sadly, and I guess "licensing" played a part, but Amt did not provide the famous stripes in their kits. Masking them up was tedious, but overall, the right look was achieved I think. Opened the trunk, added aluminium tube for the side-pipes and a MCG detail set. Hope these help with the cause too.
-
Funny you should bring this up Rodney. I have had some dramas getting the hi-compression motor to run smoothly............... Hey, I have actually done two nights work so far this week.....on the DATTO. Nothing worth bragging over yet, but it's a start. Been 7 months since things slowed down, time to up the antee...... Oh, Happy Birthday too mate. Cato, sorry mate.....no GT40 progress yet. I got side tracked with the release of GT5 and what not....but I'm over that now. BACK to the bench !
-
Shirley you can't be serious.....I AM serious, and stop calling me Shirley................................................... Dave, this is going to be, the baddest of the BAD ! SERIOUSLY FANtastic work. AND I am SOOOOO jealous.... How much to rent you for six months or so...? I can provide shelter down here in Aus., you just need to find a way to get down here.
-
That WILL be worth waiting for, I'm sure Don. The "Cobra" is an all-time fav......and I sure would LOVE to do one in such an awesome scale. Following along, enjoying this ride a whole lot.
-
Man, I get the feeling life is just about to get reeaall expensive........I SO want one of these. Great work so far mate.

Well, I've had several productive hours the last few days. With the firewall in place, I turned my attention towards the tail-end.....The Camaro that Revell made is great, but not perfect. With my reference library in hand (computer) I set about making some slight changes..... The centre section at the back (trunk floor) was removed. I then started the build-up process.... My initial cut across the floor pan was made through the seat lumps on purpose, as they needed to be shortened slightly. They lost approx 4mm from their molded length. They were also widened slightly with strips of styrene and putty. (yet to be smoothed.) And a quick side-by-side comparing the slight differences....they are only minor I guess, but will make it a lot more accurate. ALL the molded on fuel and brake lines have finally been removed as well. Still many many hours to go, but I'm having a ball so far.... Stay tuned guys. cheers Greg

C'mon already......... We need to see this getting built. (Gee, ya'd think you had no time for modelling........ ) Sorry Gregg, I am just having a dig.....no ill meaning intended. Would these E bodies be suited to the old Revell (Renwall) Mustang kits....? Just a thought. I have one at the top of my "want list"....just need to finish what I have first.
