Another build I found when unpacking things my ex packed. Still looks good. Been in case since complete. Built when kit was new. Wish I woulda white letterd BOTH sides.

One of these posts is a duplicate. PC glitched and I resubmitted only to find it twice. Have reported myself to moderators to delete one of them. Been opening boxes of built-ups my ex packed up. This is a Willys I built when the kit was new. Been selling a lot of models lately but decided this one will stay with me. Has a little chip in paint, but what car doesn't get a chip or two?

I got this and a parts car for like $10. Hated it at first but wife wanted to keep it for her eiffel tower display. Took both cars to make one complete car. And some paint detailing. The blackwall version is how it appears - i llifted that photo from the net. The whitewall version is mine and matches all the photos I could find of the real car - all have the whitewalls. This was the first car released from FM I understand. As such, it is pretty crude. Whites are a couple coats of tamiya white acrylic, carefully brushed on in place on car. I should have foiled the fender edges, but decided that was farther than I wanted to go with it. FM did scrape the edges, but they are under clear so they won't polish up. Wife made this little display up. THe white and black cars were my dad's and she thought we could display them to honor his memory. This is in our family room. The white car is parked underneath a wine rack. The black car is in front of her Eiffel tower - metal thing from WalMart - she loves Eiffel towers. And the Mercedes is out in front. They have been recently joined by a maroon Rolls. All of this sits on an old microwave on a cabinet in the corner of our family room. Everyone has that right? LOL. Makes movie night popcorn easy. And anytime we need to have two microwaves, we're covered. the point of post is the difference the wide whites make on this car. To me, it takes the car from awful to bearable. And it is okay to mess with a "mint" car.

Received my tire decals from Fireball Modelworks. Excellent! Photos of my 71 and a friend's 67 in the garage. Really can't beat these for good looking models. They just need a little work.

Here's a few pics of my Franklin Mint 57 Skyliner. I did a little work on the wheels /covers to get them less toy like. What a great piece with the working top.

That's a thought. And yes they are the ones you are thinking about. The wheels and tires might be usable for someone doing a euro or tuner thing? I have no idea what I'll ever do witih them. Probably nothing.

They are beautiful cars - not in my budget anytime soon. I need a new riding mower for same kind of money as these. I will comment that I am amazed at the detail and the building skills that go into these. Somewhere in Asia, there are people detailing cars for a job everyday that is better than MOST of us can do. I look at Franklin mint cars and think WOW. Why couldn't out model kit companies achieve the levels of detail. Yes I realiuze these cars cost $120 in the days when models were $5 or less. Wonder which sold more? the diecasts or the kits? I'm buying Mint cars now for about same price as a new model kit. I couldn't afford $120 then and still can't. But I'll drop $30 - $0 on a 50 something American car I can't get or don't have in plastic. And I do still get a thrill from having a model of a car that someone else built. So long as it is a nice car.

I had a guy send me two free Sunnyside 57 Vettes to see if I could do anything with them. UGH. But maybe not as bad as that revell vette. LOL. Have to be very careful when ordering things like those. Unless they are very cheap.

Dang nice! And an intimidating amount of work. Congrats on it all!

Who cares if the thread strays? I On mine, I don't. Just like hearing about things and see us discussing them. I've got to post up a couple new ones I got that don't fit here. Keep talking guys.

I have both builtups and diecasts. NASCAR was a big thing to me back in the 90s. Built over 100 of them. Selling them now to make room for the diecasts, which are the cars I want to see now. Love some 50's "mint" cars. Going through the boxes of plastics that my ex packed now. Deciding what stays and what goes. Doesn't matter what anyone says - keep what you like, sell the others, builtup or diecasts. I don't care about the NASCAR models now, but there are people who will take them for cheap. One guy bought about 20 and uses the bodies for slot cars. And yes I realize selling for cheap sucks, but I can keep it and it take up space in my life and mind OR I can sell it for whatever it will bring and free up space for what I enjoy now. There is no way to keep all the cars I have bought in the last 30 years and still have room for more new things. Not in any kind of reasonable space. I have built so many cars in the past and with a few years passing, they are less important as part of my collection. As are the 1/18 diecasts. I am addicted to "toy cars" I am selling as hard as I can in my spare time. but bringing in new ones that interest me now. Don't have the time and motivation to build like I used to but still love model cars. I think we all are in that place or we wouldn't be here. I am battling with myself over the "because I want it". Having to decide which builtups and old diecasts are making the cut. And I do rotate things in and out of my displays so I can see them occasionally and help decide. And Jantrix is correct about letting someone else hold the wallet - I know I need to let my wife help keep me grounded. If there is a car I think I want but am not sure, my wife will ask, "do you really love it?" I will buy just to handle them for a little while and then have no where to put it. It is an addiction of some kind. So I won't/can't run Jantrix out of town for it. I have had to look in the mirror and at my collection. If I could get rid of it in one fell swoop, I probably would. But who will come out and do that on site? And make at least a reasonable offer? Wow, I just hijacked the BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH out of the thread. This could be it's own thread. Sorry.

Wouldn't surprise me if they kept the shovel and rake - they try to do little things to make it as authentic as possible. I went to App (Go APps! whatever). Or ECU where my daughter went( Arrrrr). Or UNC School of Arts where my middle son is now - Go Fighting Pickles! - yep. I lived "down east" for a couple years for work. Familiar with Goldsboro and that area. Funny how the world is so small sometimes. My world story is I just bought a car on ebay from Hutchinson KS and saw it went thru the Wichita hub. THat's about my only KS connection. LOL Haven't been any farther west than New Orleans or Memphis.

Wow! Nice and overwhelming at the same time. First thing you have to do for the room is to get the stuff out and stored elsewhere so you can work. Sounds like a good excuse to buy an outbuilding too. Storage space on site. Way better than renting a space... I have done a number of DIY renovations. I redid a bathroom/laundry/junk area when my ex & I purchased a house. I turned it into a proper bath and separate laundry room with my model workbench. Also built a closet in there for the big room on the other side of the wall. I had to frame the new walls and drywall it all - walls and ceiling were paneling. I started with the walls. I had to build some walls and a doorway to divide the bath from the laundry. Do your building first. Plan the closet with model and box storage in mind? Bi fold doors are pretty easy to install. Maybe 8' of doors and the closet running across the 10' width and 5 - 8' deep. Plenty of room for closet and storage and still a largish room for whatever purpose? Just my thoughts. It took me a couple months of spare-timing it to get it done. Won't take much wood or time to frame that out. add the strips to the block walls and put the drywall up. If you don't have a good helper, rent a drywall jack for walls and ceiling. You'll need it for the ceiling anyway. I drywalled right over the paneling. Not hte best, but had to do it that way or I would have had to deal with insulation over the area. I did make a scuttle for access. You can do it with NO help with a drywall jack. My ex was NO help. the jack held everything inplace while I screwed it all together. Get you a couple of drywall screw bits as well. I recently used the fiberglass tape for a project and like it way better than paper or mesh tape. And if you want to cheap out, you might find a local sign company that will give you free crate wood. I closed in a laundry area at our current house with wood from two crates. Saved a few dollars. We give the wood away for free to anyone that will take it off. Pallets, 2x4s, OSB. Find a place that does convenience store renovations. They should have plenty. We get big "coffin crates" that have full 4x8s on the 4 sides. We don't manufacture, so we don't crate anything and don't reuse the wood. Feel free to PM for any ideas or motivation. Good luck with it.

My guy got his recently from an ebay seller. So I know they are out there. I didn't realize they had been around so long. Where can I get bulk head light lenses? Seems like I may need more in my stash. And Geno, yours is awesome. Those rear tires fix my issue of the openings looking too large. I had the 68 Revell builtup, so I have no need for this one as well. Wife & I have counted like 15 Firebirds in various scales, so not really adding any more intentionally. And I'm not really even a Firebird fan. Well I guess I am sorta.

Hey to Goober. My best friend actually drives "squad car tours" on weekends that leave from Wally's filling station. They have a fleet of proper 60's era squad car replicas that they take tourists on a 30 minute tour of "mayberry" and Andy Griffith's old haunts. $40 per tour, no matter how many folks are in the car. Thanks for the compliments. Waiting on tire decals for it. I think that will go a long way as well. And that blue interior on yours is awesome. I had a 1/18 in white and hated it. Yes $20 shipped isn't the best price I found out after Gramps told me to look at local RiteAids. Not sure who else might carry them on a local level. Flea markets? I think the rite aid may have had a red one last week at $10. Guess I could buy a couple and sell them myself for $20 or so with shipping. Like the oters on ebay are doing? LOL. I'm also a cheap skate, but also too lazy to do the flea market thing. I wanted these two and that seemed like an ok price. I mean you can't hardly buy a plastic kit for $20 so I justified it that way.

Affordable high end 1/24 diecasts are still out there
randyc replied to traditional's topic in Diecast Corner
IT's nice. Doesn't really fit in my collection theme. Wonder if it's the same factories that were making the "mint' cars? Detail on diecasts has come a long way in all scales since the 2000s when the clunky Ertl's were the main thing. I see they are still selling those, but at a much higher price than originally. Thanks for sharing - nice to see that there are still some new cars out there that aren't so astronomically priced. I can't in any way justify the price of an automodello car. Nice to look at though. -
Welly 72 Trans Am Finished With Tire Decals

LOOKS GREAT! And finished. So many projects get stalled. Diecasts make it easier on you to keep focused because a lot is already taken care of. I did order some Fireball white lettering for the tires on mine. going with GY Eagle STs since they look like radials. -

That's the one. Has tiny little clear lenses in huge bezels. Other than that looks pretty good. And the wheels do come out nice. -
Another nice piece for your layout. At first, I thought you had it positioned in the "crash line" from the curve, but see you put it where it shouldn't get hit. That could be disastrous in a couple ways. Nice.

NICE! I miss my layout at times. But it still lives as a storage table at my ex's. lol. I have a LOT of stuff I will need to get rid of at some point. I'm wading through 30 years of models right now. Amazing what accrues over the years. Nice van.

Welly 72 Trans Am Finished With Tire Decals

Thanks for hte info on the interiors. Since my buddy is a non-paying guy, I just buttoned it back up in black. If he'd offerend me something ( a sheet of BMF, maybe?), I might have taken it farther. BTW, the headlights on the 67 'bird are awful. I don't have enough extra lenses to let 4 lenses sit on someone else's shelf. Yours is looking great. Inspiration if I ever go to the next level on mine. Keep it coming.
