Those wheels are great. These have the trim rings molded in. On the one I did recently, I silly puttied the centers to mask them and hit the rings with Rustoleum chrome paint. Not true chrme but trim rings weren't that chrome either. Just wanted them brighter than the centers. Then the detail job on the spokes and bam! great looking Rallye IIs. And interestingly, on the 72, those wheels are molded without the the trim rings. Another great variation. I think it's hard to mess this one up. It's beautiful as presented. Tim's looks great with the white interior, too. Excellent work guys.

Someone did them quite a few years ago with rubber tires. There were set with 4 same size tires or big & littles. There were Mickey Thompsons, Firestones and Goodyears. The good years were only one with correctly shaped sidewalls. The MTs were basically straight sidewalls. THey had the japanese style backs for poly caps. But they are/were excellent Keystones and Cragar SS wheels. And I can't remember for the life of me who made them. Someone here may rremember though. AHA! FOund them but they were NOT priced like this back in the day.. http://www.spotlighthobbies.com/mrc1or1sckek1.html Ebay shows them for about half that maybe. They detail up nicely. Best I've ever seen of the KK.

That does look good. If I didn't have that Wix R/T, this would be the one to have. And if I ever run across one cheap, may still get one. Nothing beats a good replica.

Didn't know about the Cordoba. My dad also had a 75 or 76. BEige. tan mouse fur interior. wire wheels covers. My dad also wore platform shoes back then and had one of those hats like Steve Martin when he was a "wild and crazy guy" on SNL. Should I remember that? Probably not! LOL.

I built one last year for a guy. Comes out pretty nice. I did replace the wheels and tires with some aftermaket style wheels and tires. May have been the ones from Revell 70 Cuda. I don't remember. Builds nicely and if your interests lie in that area, won't be as disappointing when finished and hard to build as the Revell 240Zs. I thought those were pretty darn fiddly.

I'm just catching up, but wasn't this a Tom Daniel design? So therefore, it probably isn't prototypically correct. But all of us of a certain age probably built it as a kid. And played with it til it busted. Then as adults, we built it again for display. Man I loved some Tom Daniel kits back in the day! You really can't "rivet count" on this one. Not designed to be a dead nuts accurate kit to anything. Just the idea of a gasser. Built easily. And back in the early 70s, it was "55 Chevy" enough for my 10- 13 year old eyes. And way easier to build than the Revell kit with it's fiddly hinges and tiny little parts. Plus it was a HOT ROD GASSER DRAG CAR!

Thanks. I did Google around and the photos I looked at had a black console I think. I was surprised. The console is pretty incorrect in the JL, from the photos I found. The armrest is kinda right - the rest is way off, unless there was another one available. I still want the FG version as well. But lowering the front of the FG 68 ElCamino wasn't as easy as I had hoped. Thought I'd use it for practice. I left the rear alone. Decided it really wasn't something I wanted to do. Thought about maybe a set of wheels and tires on the 69 like back in the day might help it appear better? My uncle had big & little wheels on Keystone Klassics back then. He moved them to every car he owned. Air shocks, the whole deal. He didn't go extreme like some guys did though.

I'm probably going to pop for a First Gear as well. Something seems off on the wheel openings. I'm afraid to look at images of the real car for fear it will ruin this one for me before I finish it. But I could probably give it to my diecast buddy.
-
Yeah those wheels are atrocious! Still, I may have to have one of those to go with the Chevelle and GSX. I should have a set of Olds wheels somewhere from a plastic kit. Swap them and tires out and bam! Got something.

I also bought a 62 Galaxie promo that was beuatiful in the listing. It was listed as a diecast, so the promo ppl were not seeing it. I got it for $10.25 total, shipped with some Mint diecasts. Was going to resell anyway - they were selling for $40+ in this condition. So when it arrived, was packed with the Mint diecasts and had been jammed in too tightly and that old plastic had cracked the top OFF and the body in two. I was crushed. I still sold it for parts and made my money back, but not what it woulda sold for had it been unbroken. If I have something really fragile, I try to sell it with a display case, so I can pack it in the case a little more securely.

Interesting. As before, would like to mess with these a little with my current skills.

Got this one a few weeks ago, knowing the issues, but it was reasonably cheap. And I wanted to see what I could do with it. The yellow is great. White interior and mags. Something I would have loved to own for real. Here's where I am now - I have a few more hours on it. But wanted you guys to see what can be done with the taillights, since they are awful out of the box. I like the mags in chrome, but my uncles had some torquethrusts when I was a kid that had the gray spokes, so this is in homage to them. Interior will be completed with black carpet, console, dash and steering wheel. Photos I found show only the door panels and seats were white on a white/other color interior. I did see a white/green interior and toyed with that. that would be very 70s, eh? Just tick the right boxes. Foil will not stick well to the textured door panels, btw. My big disappointment is in my painting the headliner. Got too close to edges and too much black on windows.

Reworking Maisto 1/24 pan head Harley into service car
randyc replied to GLMFAA1's topic in Diecast Corner
Ok, I just didn't realize. Thanks for the information guys. I had a BUNCH of hte 1/18 and few 1/12s at one time. Just a few pieces left from all that now. -
As a seller of builtups and buyer of built cars, it's really a push. I do all I can to pack carefully. Before it goes in box, I carefully wrap car and any packing in a plastic grocery bag, so hopefully, if anything comes loose, it will stay in close proximity of the car. And if a model is built carefully, there isn't a lot of glue holding some ot the smallest parts on. In my case, if the car is very fragile, I sell it with a display case so I can pack the car in the case, tape the case closed, and then pack in a box. And stuff still comes off. If you guys buy any of my cars, I will try to pack it best I can. I apologize in advance if something happens. As a buyer, I bought a beautiful Danbury Mint 58 Bonneville. Looked great in photos, but when it arrived the whole front end was mangled. I think it was dropped at some point in transit. Serll hadn't packed as good as I would have, either. Balled up catalog pages do NOT protect. So seller & I had to negotiate a deal. But I was able to repair because I am a modeler. Some folks don't do modeling so they would have problems. I have a friend who pays me to fix his cars.

yep. I think the bug yellow will come close or be a drop or two in some direction to match it. Or now that I think about it, the yellow testors acrylic paint marker might be close. I'll have to look this weekend.

Reworking Maisto 1/24 pan head Harley into service car

1/24 or 1/18? I haven't seen a 1/24 Maisto Harley. Doesn't mean they don't exist, just that I haven't seen one. Good luck with it. -
Thanks. That looks GREAT! But the yellow on the black car is a pale yellow and not as bright as it should be to match the Saturn yellow.
-
Great! Can't wait to see the 4-4-2. Be sure to report back on it. That might be one I'd like, but haven't seen one in anything other than a listing photo and those do it no favors.
-
Thanks. I really like the tiny little GSX on the rear of the spoiler. If I ever run across some testors bug yellow or whatever it is, I may paint the tach. I think that color would match the stripe.
-
Some photos of the black GSX I scored (free) recently. It's not a correct color, but I felt like it needed a little detailing anyway and it would look pretty good on the shelf. I worked on the grille, chromed the rockers, blacked the wheels, and added some white letters. I'm good with it.

AGHHHH!Dont drop the airbrush!!!!
randyc replied to Spruslayer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a Paasche VLS - 27 years. Dropped too many times to remember. Worst of it has ever been is bent needle and/or split aircap. I try to keep an extra of those parts on hand at all times for such. And when the needle gets too worn or damamged to use in airbrush, makes a nice general purpose tool for the workbench. Just saying they are tough except for those two parts. -
Yup, I did same. Got mine for about $5 plus shipping. Waited patiently and was able to pick up a Danbury mint later for like $13,. Pictures were awful, had some kinda black spot on fender in paint in photos, looked bad in general. Modeling skills to the rescue! Blob in paint was ON paint and buffed out easily. The white paint on my Welly was badly cracked.

Nice! -
I'll try to get a couple this week. It hasn't made it to house yet as I have nowhere to store it. It's still in the outbuilding/workbench area. Which is not always somewhere I get to go daily, dangit. I added some Fireball white letters and made it even better.
