  1. I read this from the blog notification I got. I replied and then wasn't logged in correctly or something and it was lost forever. So.... I liked this kit when it was an annual. Of course, I bought LOTS of annuals during that era. the 3 in 1 concept was so cool. And nothing was ever stock. Stock wheels went to the box of unwanted parts. And Metal axle were the bestest. Build it and play with it. Then after it got old, rebuild it would parts from other kits. And I did like the real car - I was 9 in 1975. What did I know? A friend of mine had a real one that was a street stock local racer. He bought it in the 90s and it was still VERY competitive. It was built in the 80s specifically for the track ( Bowman Gray in Winston-salem NC) by an old timer racing family. I bought the previous reiisue with the thought of hogging out hte wheel openings, roll cage, putting a set of the wide treaded race car tires on it and painting it like his. Haven't gotten to it and probably won't. I was also thinking of turning it into a slot car body to race against the Falcon slot car body I have. From the Modified Stocker series. That would have been epic in my mind. And BTW, the Falcons that were built for Bowman gray in the 60s are still running and competive occasionally. Thanks for another great retrospective, Adam.
  2. Liking it - keep it coming.
  3. NICE!
  4. LOL. There ya go. I'll mention that...
  5. If I didn't have a wife, that's how my house would look! As it is, I get these shelves at ceiling and a few other places in the house. I haae all scales so they are a bit of everywhere, except kitchen and master bath. Wife says no cars in those two. But we do have cars in the hall bath and family room bath. LOL. When we moved in in 2016, I had mostly 1/18 up there, but I've been selling those and making room for more 1/24/25s. And I've been selling my 1/24 builtups from the past 30 years to make room for new builds and diecasts. My ex had 6 boxes with 32 each in them. So I sell a car, keep the case. Put a die cast in the case. At one point, we had about 45 cars on a two level coffee table we have. Have to put loose nice cars up when the grandbaby comes though. Ok, back to Cobras. and my Cobras are in a case on coffee table in front of wife, becasue those are "hers".
  6. Yep, I'm not sure where, but I learned it somewhere too. removing tampos, that is. And oh that GT40 is gonna look good.
  7. Silver one, for comparison. This is supposed to be a Shelby color according to the box. Supposedly 1 of 3264 or something like that. I got way lucky on this one. A few cents under $30 to my door. There are a couple under $50 on the bay now. But mostly seem higher and I haven't seen them til recently. There is a white race version apparently as well. Search "wix Cobra"- that will show a lot of blue ones and the occasional silver and others. I must say I do NOT uderstand collectors that leave things unopened and undisplayed. I know you may not have room for everything, but still.... How can you buy a hundred diecast cars and leave them in a box in a closet? Of course, I have bought things that haven't gotten built or displayed because I didn't have time to build or a place for a particular place. I'm selling down now to try to get to a place where I can have most everything out to see. And at least rotate cars in and out to display.
  8. Cool Mako. The one I saw didn't have the bubble top. Nice! And I think the GT40 was released like that in honor of 40th anniversary of the LM win? Or 40th anniv. of the car? Thos are nice, I gotta say. I could never build one for what these cost usually.
  9. Cool. And you have the book. Online - this site used to be a GREAT source. Not working on my end today - hope it's not gone. https://www.racingicons.com/gs/ VRM decals if you want to do an alternate version or want some extra details. I'm sure you know about all that. Nice workspace.
  10. Man, those look good! Thanks for bringing them here for us to see.
  11. LOL. I was trying to find a blue one to send a link to another collector and found this one. Bought it immediately. Don't seem to be as many of the silver, but it had to come live with my wife's blue one. Her birthday is 4/27/65, and her last name initials are SC, so we have to have these, right? Hope you find one.
  12. Just found this one over the weekend. Haven't seen this one before and at less than $30 to my door, I couldn't pass it up to go with the blue one.
  13. All these are very nice. I've been absent a few days and these look great!
  14. cool. I have a box full of my old HWs. I painted a lot of them myself and wouldn't be a bad idea to restore them similarly. Of course that means more projects. I did look through your other videos. Nice motorcycle selection. I had a job a few years back where I was responsible for 650 training motorcycles owned by the state of NC. That meant I had around 100 in my garage for repair or disposal at any time. Which meant diagnosing the ones that came back and getting them running again if possible. I learned a lot quickly. Looks like you have a similar selection of how tos - Good deal.
  15. I got it and studied it last night. Hit the lugs with the Molotow. hit a few spots with the Molotow. Need to foil the rockers, maybe the window trim. I'm not steady enough with the molotow pen to do those. Probably won't try to do the wheel well openings. Wouldn't hurt at some point to work on the interior a bit - door cards especially. Maybe visit the grille and lenses for a little further detailing. General details are very much like a plastic kit built out of box. No engine wiring. Not having seen the plastic in a long time, hard to say how close they came to same kit with diecast body and opening doors. Will look good on the shelf. And maybe a repaint and some Keith Marks decals later.
  16. Thanks. I was hoping for the CAR, and a black one came up last week. There aren't a lot of these out there. This one will work.
  17. Many of the cars made for Wix but Crown Premiums and Icons are at least as nice, if not better than the Mint cars. And usually cheaper. I have a 67 GTO from Icons and a convertible from Crown. Both have the details like Mint cars. I have the Cobra. Nicer than the Mint car I think. Athe 53 Vette for Wix looks better than the Franklin Mint versions I have seen. Those are prety crude around the headlights. Great score on the Cobra. I think mine was 30 PLUS shipping, so you really did good on this one.
  18. I just got one off Ebay. The solid red/orange color. I'm not sure I see anything really workng with this one - looks like a Fairlane to me. I'm not a student of the Fairlane though. My plastic kit got irreparably busted during the building process a long time ago and have alway swanted a Fairlane for the shelf. This may be a good candidate for a repaint and some decals/photoetch maybe? Details. It will be a while though. Other things to do first.
  19. Sweet buy. And yes, the FM car is better than the DM car. The DM has a flat nose, I think. Just doesn't have the depth of the real car. At least I think that's what it is. And probably why the DM car stays fairly cheap. I've had 3 of hte DM 66 converts. Sold one and have another to sell soon. They just keep coming through my hands as part of other buys. I'll look for the FM version. I like a cheap dirty car - I can usually get them looking pretty good.
  20. A couple of these items are things I mentioned in that thread on the review page and got a little blasted for. And I am a casual viewer. I don't know the details like Rex. To me, it looks like the Mustang of that year. Has a good interior and cost less than the plastic kit. And I don't have to find time to build it. I used to think less of diecast collectors, but I really get it now. Life gets in the way of building model kits for some folks. But we still want to have models. I think most of yus here are sorta both, modelers and collectors. I do enjoy improving a diecast with some paint and details. I would love to have some photoetch detail sets to apply to some of these cars. But then that makes the project creep to another level to where I may not get to it anytime soon. Rex, I don't think yours are same car as mine from photos. The 70 doesn't have same wipers or an antenna mount at all. Nor separate door handles - is that a plastic kit? The white car is a 69 which has different body, wipers, hood, printed marker lights?, and such. They are similar though. And the shifter in mine is pretty clunky as well. The biggest improvements on this one to be made I think, would be the interior. Take apart and detail everything in there better. Maybe someday. No time to get to it any time soon. I got cars for others I'm working on and my own list in front of it. A good problem I guess? So far I am missing a 64.5, 67, and 68. Then I'll have all the Stangs up through the 70. I traded off my Testors Mach1. And after that, til there is a Mustang II in 1/24, I guess I have all I really want. I have later ones in plastic and have even sold or given those away. This would be my favorite if it were a 302 car.
  21. I had a 1/18 plymouth Bevedere a few years back. Trunk was separate piece. Like hte fancier version Fury I had. So I took it apart. Jammed in the hinges were two logs of sprue or something that kept the trunk from opening. Which meant that the trunk piece didn't have to go in and it made this particular Belvedere a lesser version than the opening trunk cars. And it was cheaper as well. So you might check in there to see what is in there - may be pretty simple to have it open. but then does it have trunk detail if you do get it open? Is the juice worth the squeeze?
  22. Looking good - can't wait to see the end product on this one.
  23. Nice!
