Thanks, Geno. I detailed the exterior of the black one he gave me. It turned out pretty nice as well. And I don't even like black cars.

Mike, Thanks I found a real one for sale on the net that had like 56 photos of the car and was able to use it for reference. It was dead stock. I had already used hte stock 56 wheels on another project, but those little moons were perfect for the feeing I wanted. I can't wait to see yours.

Hot Wheels 50th anniversary tour pictures

But my question to ya, Vamach, is the real Mach 1 correct? LOL. You are THE expert on those. I use your posts as my reference for those. Seriously. I have looked you up several times. Cool photos. -
galaxie limited chevrolet cars 1948/1947

Here's the sedan delivery I did when it was first released. Nothing extra except the moons. I think. -
It has some weird issues as they all do. I wasn't after one of these, but my guy gave me the black one. So I'll detail it and display it for a while. I think the fender openings may have some issues and the grille/bumper seems odd to me. I think the grille protrudes too far. But heck, every diecast has some issue or the other and they are harder to correct than the plastics. but again, most casual observers of my cars don't notice the differences. Most folks are overwhelmed when they step into our living room and are greeted by around 220 cars on display around the top of the room. Old car guys will find something to talk abou tthough and never look at the scale issues that may be present. Or maybe some day I'll repaint the black GSX some mainstream color. Green poly or some other Buick kind of color. Other than the scoops, wing, and tach it would be pretty much a skylark, right. Display it above eye level and who would know?

Thanks, y'all - I like it much better than the black top. To me, black and dark cars displayed inside just lose too much detail unless you light the heck out of them. That top makes this car really stand out.

I suspect there would be a market for dismantled cars. Parts. Buy a cheapie like this. Sell the engine, wheels, etc. I mean, how much are we willing to spend on an aftermarket engine? Or a set of wheels/tires? If I had $30 invested in a car, the engine could be $10. Wheels/tires another 8 - 10? Interior parts. This one has seat belts I think with PE buckles. There's a few more dollars. Exhaust. Suspensions. And these parts could go to folks who need repair part or modelers who want the detail that the mints put in them. The interior on the DM 58 Impala is beautiful. Body is kinda funky. There again, wheels and tires are very nice. Bumpers are higher quality chrome than plastic kits. not all cars can be had cheap, though. But there are 3 parts Cudas on ebay now that go off this afternoon. Right now they are at $34 plus shipping. Missing the tires though - someone already robbed them. But there are three sets of engines, interiors, etc. Or you could possibly restore them and resell? idk. Right now, I enjoy the die casts. I buy and fix. Sometimes resell. But the wife sometimes likes them and says we'll be keeping. lol Even the cheapie diecasts like we detail out on this forum. I don't have to pray to the paint gods for a proper paint job. And then let the moon get in it's right phase and everything to try to lay down a good paint job. Only for it to be ruined by some unknown voodoo. And paint jobs are as much voodoo as anything.

Here's mine. Inspired by that very same photo. And Tulio that replied earlier. His builds are first rate. Keep going. Looks great so far.

Over the years I bought a LOT of diecasts. And mostly, they would go in whatever area I also painted in, which means a fine film of dust and overspray particulate. I mentioned in the cleaning post that you could clean up a box with nail polish remover. Here is a prime example. This was dang nasty. Blue shop paper towel and cheap nail polish remover from Ollies. You could follow this with some window cleaner. And sometimes I start with greased lightning or mean green. Now if I could just sell it.... on ebay now.

Yeah, the color was available in like 72, though. But the dude was happy. He gave me a black one for my very own. I'll put the "fu" to it and let it go.

I bought this pretty cheap on ebay to resell or whatever. The top had issues in the photos and I figured I could touch it up. It's black from the factory - you can look it up if you so desire. But when I got the car, the paint was sticky and looked like someone had used something to try to clean it that had reacted badly. My wife hated it, too. In talking, we decided it might look better with a white top. We decided you could have possibly ordered this particular car back in the day. Don't look at the nose shape of the DM car. And if you want an accurate car, might want to look at this one closely before you buy. I think it is way too flat. Doesn't really show in these pictures. I scraped 99% of the paint off with my fingernail. Then cleaned it more with nail polish remover. Carefully. under the paint is molded chrome plastic as you can see in photos. I kinda liked that myself. lol So in the true spirit of many of us in this part of the forum, I masked it out without disassembly, mixed up some sightly off white paint and sprayed it thru the airbrush. My pictures are out of order, but you get the idea. And I replaced the antenna with a piece of guitar string after the photos. Once done, my wife decided we are keeping it and it goes nose to nose on the mantel with the bottle green/saddle 66 AMT 1/25 I built for her. She barely notices the difference in scales and if mama's happy...well, you know the rest.

I started talking to a guy I met thru ebay. I bought a car from him and he only lives about an hour from me. Through converstaion, he was asking about various aspects of modeling, which he has little interest or ability. So he asked if I could make a convertible GSX for him. I said it probably wouldn't be "right" and I tried to talk him out of it. But he has a 1/24 collection of primarliy convertibles and was insistent. So he sent me a Chevelle conv and the GSX to make a convertible GSX. So I figured out best I could do with my skill set and this is what he got. I know it's pretty bad, but he was very happy with it. I couldn't figure out how to make the cut right using the diecast body. The first photo is just after the cutting, with the Chevelle boot in place to see where to go next. I wish I could have cut it better, where the boot would have been level, but I am just not smart enough. to do it without major reconstruction. And I didn't want to have to repaint and such. The paint matches pretty close to regular old Testor's red. So here is what I ended up with. It will be painful to look at for many of you, but he paid me for the effort and was pretty happy with it. And gave me a half dozen more to detail paint as I see fit. The dash may the best one I have trimmed out to date. The gauges are decals from the factory. I put embossing powder on teh floor for carpet. A convertible has to have a pretty nice interior. Did the best I could with what I had. I ground the back off the grille to try to get it to stand up straighter and a little deeper in the hole. the windshield frame is foiled and polished, as well as the rockers. I left the silver tampos as they were. Did the wheels of course. I think it needs white letters, but he thought it was fine. He did give me a black one in addition to paying me a little for the efforts.

RESOLVED! Testors Daytona and/or Charger instructions needed
randyc replied to randyc's topic in Diecast Corner
I see stuff that could be corrected, but then I ask myself if it's really worth a lot of time to me to fix them. Most ppl that see my stuff don't realize the inaccuracies. On this one, they see the nose and wing and know what it is. I'm not as picky as some folks are. The ride height may be an issue as well. Have to see how it comes out, then figure if I can repair easily and want to. I mean, it's going in a case up on a high shelf when done, most likely. To be sold at a later date. -

Iamsuperdan sent me a copy. One less thing to look for. but thanks for offering. -
I have looked at the Snapper version. Same car except the logo. Noticed the dull appearing paint and the 6 hole wheels. Then I decided I need a new riding mower more than a new 69 camaro model. Or much of anything else for that matter. Be sure to post up if/when you start snaking it. Be glad to see something better come of it.

That's the one. If you can find them, would love to have a copy or pay for the originals. If you're like me, you may have them and have no idea where they are. This will go good witih my JL Superbird. I know it has some weird issues, but my Revell promodeler version crashed to the floor and is busted up. I also got a 69 Charger R/T with it. So instructions for either will help greatly. Thanks -
Throwing in the towel. Need some advice
randyc replied to Project510's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
At the very least keep the tools and supplies -they come in handy around the house and you already have a woodworking hobby. I can see model tools being handy on occasion there. Kits? Your call. Kep the ones that you want the most and pack them so they don't take so much room. I'm dealing with a 30 year collection of toy cars right now, because I don't have room to display and/or store them all. They can be rebought at some point IF I ever want them again. And someone may be looking for the kit. I have come to the point where it is more important to get rid of old builds and kits than to hold on them for some long ago sentiment. And $10 for a kit or build that is doing nothing is better than it taking up space because I spent $50 in aftermarket parts. Now I am keeping the ones that have special value - an all pink 62 Pontiac custom for example, that I built for my daughter when she went through her "all pink" phase. And the money made can help you buy more woodworking stuff.. Or in my case, my ebay proceeds are going for a new riding mower. Good luck figuring it out. -

YEah that's the new 2006. I went there and looked as well. I was hoping someone might be holding one and could do a scan or photo. Thanks for looking though. -

Hey guys, [RESOLVED] -IAMSUPERDAN SENT ME A COPY. Anyone have the diecast Testors Daytona or Charger instructions? I bought a set off ebay and seller lost the ONE set of instructions. I can identify MOST of it, but there are a few parts I can't identify where they go, much less WHEN they go in. LOL. Looking for a scan or paper copy if you got it. I checked that other site where we always look and nothing there that I could find. Thanks -
Looks great and buy-in cost made it a no brainer.
