  1. I know this is a long shot, but I am looking for a set of tires for my latest project in 1/16 scale. They need to be about 1 and 1/8" to 1 and 3/16" (28.575mm to 30.1625mm) inner diameter, and 1 and 5/8" (41.275mm) outside diameter, and about .75" (19.05mm) wide. I am thinking there might be something close in RC or die casts, Any suggestions?
  2. I just had some parts printed from Shapeways in their "Frosted Extreme Detail" material. Do any of you guys have experience trying to make a mold from a part made from this stuff? It is only 3.5mm thick, and I have heard that this stuff can be brittle. So I am worried about losing it in the mold and shattering into pieces trying to get it out. Lately I havent been using mold release. But I have used baby powder in the past, and am thinking of using that again. Thoughts?
  3. Whoaaa!! I am in trouble. I will be buying multiples of this one! Some observations: First, I am *very* surprised to see full Trans Am lettering. I was not expecting that at all. I am building the old Trophy Series Turbo Firebird, and all of the letters to spell "Trans Am" are scattered throughout the decal sheet. I guess as long as "Trans Am" isn`t on the box art, they dont have to worry about licensing for the name? The springs for the working front suspension are still there, which is interesting. The snow flake wheels and the tires appear unchanged compared to the Trophy Series kit, which is good IMO. The tail light panel is not correct, just like the old kit. I am really loving the decal options in 3 colors!!!
  4. Whoa. This is great! And with confirmation from Revell that the front end has been addressed??! Very great! Hopefully they will really nail it with the front end. It will be a nice kit if so. It would be nice if they would update those shallow wheels too.
  5. All are great, but I especially like that GTA! Nice work!
  6. Thanks! Yeah, the dark red one is the 1/8 kit, and the bright red is the 1/16 scale kit. If you decide to build the 1/16 kit, there are alot of issues with it. I have a thread on it here somewhere....
  7. Thanks! That is one of my favorite kit, and was the one that started it all for me back in `83. I remember getting it for $4.99 at Kaybee.
  8. Whoaaaaa! Very nice!
  9. Fbody meet.... Ok, you asked for it! That`s it for 1st and 2nd gen. 3rd and 4th gen coming.
  10. Very, very nice collection! Thanks so much for sharing and starting this thread!
  11. Not sure if some of you remember the write up on that kit in the "other" magazine back in `94 I believe. Supposedly there is a second generation Camaro kit on the inside? The kit instructions (which were apparently a joke as much as the box art) included a Japanese section for "good will."
  12. Thanks again everyone! Kelson: Thanks for posting that picture. Now that I see that, I do remember seeing it sitting on the shelves a loooong time ago, probably when it was new. I`d like to find one of those. I can see most of it was carried over to the Iroc, at least body wise.
  13. Has anyone seen this one yet? It was in their September video, but I am not seeing it anywhere.
  14. Yep! Here is the "big" kit: About the shifter.... The kit came with the 5 speed and I built it that way. You can see that in the second interior picture. Then I discussed it with the person who will be getting this, and his is an automatic. So I had to tear the console apart and convert it to automatic, which you can see in the first interior picture. That is it`s current state. Thanks everyone!
  15. Thanks Ron, and thanks for sharing the memories! I`m not sure if you know, but the MPC `82 Firebird kit is available now as a re-release. I debated getting one, but I am too back-logged. I vaguely remember Revell doing a Z28 in 1/16 either just before or just after the Berlinetta, but I can`t find any info on it. Do you remember what color the car on the box was? I too got the 1/16 GTA kit for Christmas back when they first came out. Ah, the memories. That was a good time. That one had some inaccuracies as well, but at that time I didn`t care. I built it in black. A few years later I got tired of the black and painted it charcoal with a brush. :D
  16. Thanks everyone! Here is a better pic of the dash, and one of the chassis. I had to convert the trans to a 700r4 like the 1:1 and modify the exhaust to a single muffler set up.
  17. `87 Iroc built from the somewhat rare Revell kit from the period. Now, before anyone goes out and tries to get ahold of one of these, there was *a lot* of work to make it accurate and the body panels to line up right. The kit comes with Camaro front seats, which are correct, but Firebird back seats. It is just plain weird. I had to make a set of matching seats for the back. The valve covers are the old smooth ones from the `82 kit, which doesnt have the ribs of the TPI valve covers. I had to make the valve covers from scratch. The exhaust is also a carry over, with incorrect dual mufflers. The door panels appear to be either Firebird or from the Berlinetta kit. And because it came with opening doors and rear hatch, it is very difficult to get the doors and hatch to line up properly to be convincing. I actually glued them shut before doing the body work and painting. There were also countless small details I had to change that would require a long list. But for instance, the center vent under the dash pad protruded out a little to far so I sawed it off, removed some material, and re-attached. This is actually going to an owner of a 1:1 just like it. His was an automatic, so I converted that as well. Anyway, let me know what you think.

    '98 Firebird

Nice work! I think you are right....that looks very much like SOM, which is one of my favorite colors on the 4th gens. I dont know how you guys can finish one in a week. Im happy with one month.
  19. For those of you that didn`t catch the video, this kit is coming with decals in three colors! I am assuming these will be like the smaller kit`s, coming in red, blue, tan/gold.
  20. Whooooaaaaa The `79 Firebird is going to have the big bird decals in 3 colors! My bank account is in trouble! Can`t wait to get a hold of that one!
  21. That looks spectacular Mike! They can`t release this one soon enough. If it does come with the bird in several colors, I am in trouble!
  22. Where is the 1/16 Firebird?
  23. So you built that Mike? That looks amazing. I built the original 1/25 scale version of the Anniversary Trans Am back in the 90`s. It was *very* difficult to get anything decent out of that kit because of part fitment, proportion issues, flash. etc. But that looks nearly perfect! The proportions look very close to the 1:1. If we get a gold bird like the one in the pic, I will be ecstatic. I will be building at least two if that is the case. If it comes with multiple color birds, my checkbook and schedule are in trouble. So this is not under the new releases or anything. Is this available now?
  24. Sorry to bring up an old thread guys, but I saw this on the Round 2 webpage. It looks as though it is the trophy series Firebird or the Blackbird kit in gold with the anniversary hood and intake/carb`d intake engine. Thoughts?
