Airbrush or spray can?
Hawk312 replied to Eloveless's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Except for a brief period of a few months back in the 90`s, all of my builds were finished with spray cans. All of the finishes on everything I have ever posted here were done with spray cans. -
That is unbelievable! I can`t imagine the amount of work that took to revert back to a `69. Where did the tires come from?
-
Thanks! I can try to pull my thoughts together on my process and write something up in the how-to forum. You can also see my process along with pictures in MCM issue 150, the "Big Scale Bueaty" issue if you can get a hold of it. All of my paint jobs are from rattle cans too. Again, thanks!

The First L-88
Hawk312 replied to LaughingIndian's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
Nice work! It looks as though you even drilled out the radio/heater details to install the gauges? I know what you mean about finding reference photos. When I was building the L-88`s, it was a real struggle. The Barrett Jackson car wasn`t too bad with all the publicity it got, but the black ones were another story. -

Oh wow!! I can`t wait to see this! I will be watching for sure! -
Rattle Cans - who still uses them?
Hawk312 replied to tiking's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I`ve been using rattle cans exclusively for over 20 years now and am getting decent results. I have no plans at this point to go to an airbrush. -
Excellent work on both! Where did the wheels come from for the `vette?
-
Thanks guys!

Thanks everyone! Harry, the subject we discussed a while back is still in progress. I haven`t given up. Hopefully for Christmas next year? Thanks! The first one is an ultra rare L-88. Since they didn`t have radios (did any of you guys notice the modified dash?) there was no need for a shield.
-
Well, the year started off ambitious for me at least, until life got in the way again. I have a very big project in the works I was hoping to share with you guys this year, but I guess it will have to be next year. So the L-88 car, which was meant to replicate the Barrent Jackson car, and another tri-power `67 Corvette are my only completions this year. Both are 1/12 scale. These are the first two models on which I have used my own built and cast `67 style rallye wheels.

Merry Christmas!

They also sell celery in those containers. Now where`s that fire suit.... -
I`ll be watching this thread. I agree with you on the proportions. Alot of weirdness with the kit engine. I was debating back-dating this kit to a `68 or `69 if I ever get time to build again. If you have need during your build, I have an assembled one of these if you want me to snap some pics from different angles.

What's Coming in 2016?
Hawk312 replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, I would love to see this, It seems this is overdue as they have already re-released the `57 since the last release of the Corvette kit, and I believe we have seen the Camaro twice in that time. I`m also waiting to see if we will ever see the `79 or `80 Trans am or the `78 or `81 Corvettes in 1/8 scale. We`ve seen the Iroc and a host of other 1/8 kits in recent years. I am still seeing the `79 kit go for over $300 every now and then. I know we don`t want to see yet another Camaro, but I think a Revell version of the `70 Camaro is long overdue. -
hydrochroming has reached model builders on
Hawk312 replied to Lownslow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Does it work on resin with consistent results? -
If you could only choose ONE photo of any of your builds, wich would it be?
Hawk312 replied to JAFFA's topic in Model Cars
Very nice work in this thread. Lots of eye candy. Mine is always changing, but for now, It is the Barret Jackson L-88 car that I built from the 1/12 scale kit. -
Love this one! Great work!
-
Thanks David! The promo was the 1987 Z28 (it is blue plastic.) The wheels are Pegasus IROK's. Model Empire in milwaukee has about 300-400 of the promos for sale.....think they are like $4. PM sent.
-
Very nice! What promo is this? Where did you get those wheels? Chief Joseph is great to work with! You will see some of his custom work on one of my builds coming soon.

Second that!

A Car Everyone Can Hate Equally
Hawk312 replied to Quick GMC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So.....this is what you get when you throw a Mustang, a Corvette, and a Firebird in a blender? And put it on "chop?" -
THIS! I touched a little on this in the Big Scale Beauty article. I had a tough time getting the white and blue stripes to not turn pink or purple on my 1/12 `67 Corvettes. And, I usually use Duplicolor clear, and sometimes testors lacquer clears. Tamiya goes on nice, but I have had problems in the past with their clear burning through the colors on edges.
-
For those who care, the reverse is also true. You can use model paints on RC/Lexan as well. This one was painted using Duplicolor, Tamiya, and Testors lacquers from memory: And this one was painted using all Duplicolor:
-
Second that! Proportions are excellent, IMO, and between the kit offerings, we have some nice part and decal options. Revell kit: Compared to the AMT 1/16 kit, which is decent, but looks toyish compared to the Revell kit:
