  1. Oh wow. Nice! I didn`t see the Raminator kit at our local Ollies. I`ll have to search around at some of the other ones close by. I`ve been wanting a monster truck kt. is that 1/25 scale?
  2. Ours here had a pretty decent number of kits, most mentioned above. I saw the Lindberg Yellow Charger kit....not sure if that has been mentioned. Lots and lots of Lindberg kits, only a handful of Revell kits. No Hawaiian funny cars, which is what was going for. I grabbed the very last two Mongoose Duster funny cars, a Superbird, and the `66 Mustang fastback from Revell. Also, the had 3m blue painters tape fairly cheep.
  3. This was mentioned in the reviews section, but this has gotta be one of the worst I have ever built: Revell 1:12 scale Mustang A "chopped" top, brittle/thin a-pillars that twist on their way down from the roof to the cowl, doors that will not have convincing gaps no matter what you do (I actually secured them shut on my build and used lots of styrene and filler to get it "presentable"), a ride height suitable for off road, a flat front nose, slab-sided rear fenders with no shape to them, and just in general all proportions seem off. I swore I would never build this one again.
  4. I have heard of some guys using tamiya black underneath Spaz Stix. How long do you guys allow it to dry, and must you always buff it? Mine is coming out looking more like aluminum, but I only let the Tamiya dry for about an hour. Are you using a bunch of light mist coats, or a couple mist coats and a heavy one? I have seen some guys that can get this stuff looking like kit chrome.
  5. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. I think I am taking each suggestion and applying it, and my castings are coming out much better. Hopefully you will see them on one of my projects soon. Thanks!
  6. Thanks Snake and unclescott!
  7. Having had first hand experience, I can tell everyone here it lives up to your (low) expectations! Flat nose, chopped roof, A-pillars that are brittle and twist 45ยบ (weird), slab sided rear fenders, doors that wont line up, and a ride height more fitting for a Hummer. Here is the best I could do with it with *alot* of work:
  8. Wow. I was never really interested in that car til I saw yours. Nice finish. It looks like it really builds up well. And it looks as though the MPC funny cars aren`t plagued with the undersize slicks like the Revell kits?
  9. Do you guys have another email address for him? So far I haven`t heard from him. Or is it best to call? I tried to avoid the person to person stuff where possible.
  10. Thanks for posting that Wayne! Your changes make a night and day difference compared to box stock build. BTW, I am using your excellent guide in my build!
  11. Probably the best way would be to use CA glue I would imagine. I used that for the front tires, and it seemed to work really well. I was able to sand them, very roughly I might add (120 grit), without them coming apart. This was like 5 minutes after gluing them together. I am not even going to try anything with the kit rears, as they are way too small. The "kit" tire in the above picture is actually from the Blue Max funny car kit, and is 1 piece. The frame is also 1 piece in that kit, as opposed to the two piece frame in this and some of the monza kits, so I will be using that frame.
  12. Thanks for the info Roger. Sounds like he is the one to deal with. Plus he is less than an hour away from me. I have littlemotorkarco@talon.com for his email. Does he usually respond pretty quickly?
  13. Does anyone have experience with this company? How is the quality? How about turn around times? Are they responsive? Thanks!
  14. Thanks guys. Help me out here though...is it just me, or does this body have waaayyy too much length? Or maybe it is too narrow? Or the roof has a smashed look? Or is it just me?
  15. Thanks! `ll be going with the modified tires from the newer Revell funny car kit. They are the two on the left. I think they are still just slightly under sized, but the Pegasus ones look way to big IMO.
  16. After the L88 corvette project, which is going on 6 months now, I am looking to do something quick and easy. Hopefully this will do it. I had this one sitting around for well over a decade, possibly 2. Also, this is starting out as the Snow car, but may end up as the Prudhomme Army Monza Funny Car. We shall see. First, the built model pictured is not what is in the box. The box art appears to be the 1/16th kit. I was really disappointed with the actual contents, which is why it was shelved for so long. The wheels and tires are horribly undersized and in no way accurate (though the rear wheels are close). The tires are also the two piece versions, split down the middle. So I will be borrowing parts from other kits. Here is what I am starting with: And here is what I have so far: I made a mold and cast the wheels from the `66 Malibu kit for this build to replace the kit wheels. The tires above, from left to right, a tire from a newer Revell F/C kit, the same plus the rear wheel from the Malibu kit, the kit wheel and tire (notice the size difference), and a Pegasus/So-Real slick and newer top fuel kit wheel. Notice the size difference of the kit tire and the tire on the far right, and the kit tire is in the foreground! The Pegasus/So-Real scales out to about 36" if memory serves me.
  17. That came out about 10x as nice as my first model. Keep at it....every model is a learning experience.
  18. These look great! Thanks for posting everyone!
  19. Thanks for the tips guys. I`ll give them a try!
  20. Lots of great eye candy in this thread. I`m not sure if I posted these, but this is what I have:
  21. I am using a simple 1 piece mold cast from a kit wheel. The mold itself looks perfect. When I cast the wheels though, there is always air bubbles right around the rim or around the wheel lugs/center cap area. I have tried both the 3 minute white and 7 minute tan alumilite casting resin. I tried pouring very slowly immediately after mixing and "flexing" the mold immediately after pouring which seems to help alot, but I still always have an air bubble somewhere. I have also tried using baby powder without much success. Poking holes through the bottom of the mold doesn`t seem to help either. Is there something else I need to do? Or what other options does one have if they are on a tight budget? Is switching resins my only choice? Thanks.
  22. Cool. In it, I give details on how I do the finish on my cars. I really like what Harry did on the cover, showing the contrast between my dealer showroom `vette and Dr. Cranky`s post apocalyptic wrecker.
  23. A couple more:
  24. Hi Todd, Yes, I have built more than a couple of these. I`ll post some pictures below. The kit goes together pretty well with no surprises and builds up really nicely. I usually skip the photo-etch set for it, as I think some of the kit`s chrome plated parts are more accurate (the gas cap in particular), though the 427 badges are closer to the correct thickness on the PE parts. Let me know if you have any questions.
  25. Amazing finish! It looks so real! Great work!
