  1. OK, so I decided to go with the Splitfire Firebird decals by Slixx for my Summit Firebird kit. Now I think I have tried just about every combination of "Jim Yates" or Firebird or "Pro Stock" or Splitfire, and am only finding a handful of reference pics on Google and Bing images. Does anyone have a source for pics of this car, or a similar car? Thanks
  2. Those are sharp builds! Nice work! I like the GT 500 also. As for the General Lee, is that the 1/16 scale kit? Welcome!
  3. Thanks Aukoue! No special polisher used, just alot of elbow grease. I used Duplicolor paints straight from the can. I make sure there is plenty of clear on it (at least five coats) and wet sand up to 3000 grit. I use Meguiars rubbing compound. I just happen to have the 105/205 combination for my 1:1 cars, but that would be expensive for just the models ($35/bottle each ). I think you could get their rubbing compound and swirl and haze remover, and would probably be pretty close. I also use Tamiya "Finish" compound for the final rub down.
  4. Looks like a Revell FC chassis, but the inside diameter of the tire looks to big for one of their slicks. I checked my Chi-Town, and it doesn`t look like one of those slicks either.
  5. Thanks Bill. I`ve actually been on their site. I was debating that outlaw set for the Firebird, but there isn`t too much else there. Really debating just doing the Summit car or doing something generic at this point. Was just hoping there would be some other options out there. Thanks.
  6. I have the Firebird Summit Pro Stock kit here, and I am thinking I want to do something different. I have seen some of the WJ cars have had decal sheets made, the Reher and Morrison cars, and of course there are the Summit ones, but what other options are out there for this kit? I don`t think I want to do anything generic. Thanks!
  7. That looks great! Nice work on the brake details, and on the black stripes.
  8. Thanks for the kind words everyone. Seems as though my build is the complete antithesis of what they were looking for. Next time, I will sand it down with 200 grit before taking pictures I guess.
  9. Hey guys,,,you know me! I didn`t win, but I did manage to squeak out a runner up in the truck unlimited advanced class. Congrats to anyone else who entered.
  10. Thanks again everyone! It was this kit:
  11. Thanks guys! I use the duplicolor cans that you can get at autozone, advance auto, pep boys, etc. I also use their clear off the shelf. All ready to spray in an aerosol. I usually use 5 coats of clear at a minimum, and wet sand it out with 1500-3000 grit, followed by rubbing and polishing compound. The top stripes were masked and painted, The rocker stripes are the kit decals. The decals did seem a little fragile, but there are crisp and very opaque. Hope this helps!
  12. Thanks again everyone! I`m not sure of the color...I just know it was some type of Duplicolor dark metallic silver, I believe a Ford color. It was a couple years ago that I painted it. For the K&N, I used Tamiya flat red with some black mixed in. I would have to guess about 5 parts red to 1 part black. Thanks.
  13. Wow! That looks great! Those T-tops really look convincing. How did you do that? In real life, that thing would be a beast. I had an LT-1 Firehawk with a supercharger, and it was crazy.
  14. Thanks again everyone! It is Duplicolor, but I`m not sure of the color code. I actually bought it a couple years ago. I think it is the only brown they make though. I remember it being difficult to find.
  15. Thanks again everyone! He took it off for racing.
  16. Thanks guys!
  17. Pretty much a straight OOB build, except for the flocking, dry transfer letters, fuel lines and park plug wires. This was a relatively quick build (for me anyway) inspired by a real one I saw at Ocean City cruise nights this past fall. I like the brown with the white. Let me know what you think!
  18. I would be interested in these in 1/12 scale as well, but for the `67 Corvette, `69 Camaro, and the `57 Chevy kits. I think they would look great on all of them. And I am sure others would be interested, given the 1/12 Camaro is being re-released this November!
  19. Thanks Harry! Here is the color I was going for. Now that I look at it again, I guess it isn`t that far off. But I do wish it was a little lighter, especially the wheels:
  20. I know, I know, there have been probably dozens of great builds already posted of this kit, so I`ll keep it short. As many of you have probably read before, there are two ways to build this kit: assemble according to instructions, or shake the box a few minutes and let all the pieces fall together. I had absolutely no issues. The engineering is amazing, head and shoulders above some of the older big scale kits. Duplicolor used on the body, and I got the color waaayy to dark as you can see...am a little disappointed. Some minor detail added to the engine bay. I have to apologize, I thought for sure I had pics of the interior before it went in, but now I cant find them. I`ll keep looking for them and post them if I find them. Let me know what you think.
  21. That`s right...I forgot that they were *very* limited production in `96 and `97. Did it come with the Trans Am spoiler? Sorry I derailed your thread a little bit. How is the model coming along?
  22. Oh, man! That is nice Jason!! What number car is yours? Love the video. I hope, you don`t mind, but I just gotta share a few of mine. Here is my `94 that I had about 15 years ago. Yours reminded me of it. It was number 312. It had an all forged bottom end, full exhaust, and an ATI with 9psi and twin intercoolers. In a couple impromptu run-ins, it embarrassed a couple sport bikes. And here is the `95 I had that also had a 383 stroker, again all forged bottom end. It also had the LT4 intake, heads and cam kit. It was a low number car, only number 31! And here is my current Firehawk. It is number 350. It has an LS6 cam, full exhaust with long tubes, ported and shaved heads (11.5:1 compression or so). If I were a better driver, it would run quarter miles well into the 11`s. AND still gets 28mpg average on long trips.
  23. Spray cans here. I used an airbrush maybe a total of 3 times back in the early 90`s, if I remember correctly. Haven`t used one since. Although, I am intrigued by Donn Yost`s method and would like to give it a try.
  24. Looks like this will be an interesting build. I`ll be watching. When I had the engine out of my 1:1 Firehawk, I debated going with Pontiac engine blue as well. Thought it would be something unique. What year Firehawk do you have? Can you post pictures of it?
