My thoughts too. Hopefully it means they are so excited building their`s that we wont see them until they are in the "Under Glass" section. I am in the "waiting to see if I get it for Christmas" camp before getting mine. -

Thanks again everyone! Thanks! Oh man. I remember back like 10-15 years ago when I used to participate in the contests at the York Fair, there would always be someone there asking me to come to the Saturday night meetings. I always told them I would make it but never did. Do you guys still meet on Saturday nights at the firehall? You guys had a nice display at Muscle Car Madness! -

Thanks Doc! Yeah, for what I wanted to do. I didn`t have the photo-etched belt buckles I thought I had (thats why there are no buckles on the belts) and I totally skipped the firewall detail I was planning on doing. And I had no reference pics for any of the detail in the back, so I pretty much left that go. I am on to the Fram top fuel dragster now. That should be a little more detailed. Thanks. -

Oh, and btw, this was my first time using Testor`s "One Coat" lacquer. It goes on really thick, but the results were very nice, IMO. I think I only used 3 coats of clear, and didnt have any trouble sanding through when I wet-sanded and buffed it out. -

Thanks everyone! Thanks! I used electric hookup wire with a very thin strand of wired wrapped around it, and then painted flat black. -

Built this one using the Summit Firebird Pro Stock kit. I was trying to build this one quickly to try to get to other projects, so I only added minimal detail to this. Also, if any of you have a spare set of wheelie bars for this kit, I would be interested in them. I managed to break one of them, and had to steal from another kit.

Wow. This is looking very good. Very good. I would imagine for many of us, this kit will be a must have! -
Thanks again everyone! I used Duplicolor clear from the can, about 6-7 coats from memory. Thanks!

Very nice. Great work! That picture of it on the trailer is really cool.

Low, are those the 23"? The 20" would be nice for a project i have in mind.

Looks like a great start! What scale are you working in? -
OK, so I decided to go with the Splitfire Firebird decals by Slixx for my Summit Firebird kit. Now I think I have tried just about every combination of "Jim Yates" or Firebird or "Pro Stock" or Splitfire, and am only finding a handful of reference pics on Google and Bing images. Does anyone have a source for pics of this car, or a similar car? Thanks
-
Those are sharp builds! Nice work! I like the GT 500 also. As for the General Lee, is that the 1/16 scale kit? Welcome!
-
Thanks Aukoue! No special polisher used, just alot of elbow grease. I used Duplicolor paints straight from the can. I make sure there is plenty of clear on it (at least five coats) and wet sand up to 3000 grit. I use Meguiars rubbing compound. I just happen to have the 105/205 combination for my 1:1 cars, but that would be expensive for just the models ($35/bottle each ). I think you could get their rubbing compound and swirl and haze remover, and would probably be pretty close. I also use Tamiya "Finish" compound for the final rub down.

Looks like a Revell FC chassis, but the inside diameter of the tire looks to big for one of their slicks. I checked my Chi-Town, and it doesn`t look like one of those slicks either.

Decal options for the Summit Firebird Pro Stock kit
Hawk312 replied to Hawk312's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Thanks Bill. I`ve actually been on their site. I was debating that outlaw set for the Firebird, but there isn`t too much else there. Really debating just doing the Summit car or doing something generic at this point. Was just hoping there would be some other options out there. Thanks. -
I have the Firebird Summit Pro Stock kit here, and I am thinking I want to do something different. I have seen some of the WJ cars have had decal sheets made, the Reher and Morrison cars, and of course there are the Summit ones, but what other options are out there for this kit? I don`t think I want to do anything generic. Thanks!

That looks great! Nice work on the brake details, and on the black stripes.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Seems as though my build is the complete antithesis of what they were looking for. Next time, I will sand it down with 200 grit before taking pictures I guess. -

Hey guys,,,you know me! I didn`t win, but I did manage to squeak out a runner up in the truck unlimited advanced class. Congrats to anyone else who entered. -
Thanks again everyone! It was this kit:

Thanks guys! I use the duplicolor cans that you can get at autozone, advance auto, pep boys, etc. I also use their clear off the shelf. All ready to spray in an aerosol. I usually use 5 coats of clear at a minimum, and wet sand it out with 1500-3000 grit, followed by rubbing and polishing compound. The top stripes were masked and painted, The rocker stripes are the kit decals. The decals did seem a little fragile, but there are crisp and very opaque. Hope this helps!
