The Most Dangerous Car You've Ever Owned
The Junkman replied to David G.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I didn't own it but one of my car pool partners had an ancient pea soup green Toyota p/u (had to be early to mid '70s model as we were commuting in 1982). Somehow he managed to rust out the passenger's floor pan and covered the resulting hole with an ill-fitting piece of plywood. This was in California, not a land known for rust. "I'll let you know when I need to stop so you can deploy the Flintstone brakes" he said once. Ended up taking my car and made him chip in for gas. -
What did you see on the road today?

A 1963 Ford Galaxie station wagon in Chalfonte Blue (I think, it looked pretty much turquoise to me) and looked just like this one. Naturally, it was right next to a freeway on ramp and I was going the other way. -

Jelly filled ? And I'm still trying to duplicate their sugar cookies without success. I eat the rejects without guilt though. -

Now I see the card stock give away truck is going for the same price as the die cast. Nostalgia is expensive. https://www.ebay.com/itm/194503237913?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28 -

This thread has been going on so long I can't recall if I've already contributed but: Both/either... And for those of a certain age and growing up in Southern Cal. In something more substantial than die-cut card stock: -
I've still got a slew of those Testors jars somewhere. Along with an even bigger slew of Humbrol tins from the mid '70s-pretty much all in military colors. Damn you, Squadron Shop.

"Matchless" bikes? I like the owner's solution to tail lamp/registration plate mounting. -

Looks like some one slathered it in glue then drifted through the JC Whitney warehouse. -

Ladies and Gentlemen: may I introduce you to "Darthmaro". Seen at a Safeway in Burlingame CA a week ago. The photos cannot capture the eye-searing orange of the accent color. -

To say nothing about Pro Stock. Jelly beans, jelly beans all. -

Well, on that subject you should see the flocks of AWD/4WD Subarus all covered in road dust running the mean streets of the Emerald Triangle. I mean, we DO have paved roads but that's not where these Foresters and Outbacks are operating. Wonder where they're running. To drag this back to the forum subject: where are the WRX kits? Has anyone who makes decisions seen "Baby Driver" or at least the first 6 minutes? Wings, wheels, street cred. -
Canadian Car Magazine

I recall a time that Canada was the only country in North America that you could buy a Lada, is that what you're talking about? ? -

Yesterday outside of a local hardware store. A mid '80s AMC Eagle-haven't seen one of the road in (probably) 10+ years. And yes, the red plastic cover (actually ANY cover) over the front plate is illegal in CA but that isn't my concern. -
I can see that point with the classic/rarely reissued kits of old-Barris show rods/Tom Daniels series, etc. Its vintage and it works. I am neutral on old and classic KITS but I love old and classic CARS. My hope would be for a modern kit of a classic car. I can also recall taking the tubes out of the tv with my dad and checking them on a tube tester at the grocery store. It was vintage and it work(ed). Just because it was old and nostalgic doesn't make it better, just makes it "good enough and that's enough for me". Given that way of thinking the old Revell '57 Nomad kit need never be updated/revised/replaced because it is an old classic, though complaints abound about accuracy/difficulty in building. Of course I have no comprehension of R2's marketing strategy and am in no way knowledgeable of their financials. I'm just lamenting that a classic car is only represented by a 60 year old molding and that is the only semi accurate kit of it (Sunny-represented by the soon to be issued Revell-is a conglomeration of 289/427/fantasical). They added features but didn't improve it.

Lost opportunity ? This was R2's chance to revise , if not totally to replace , the '63-64 vintage Cobra kit. A proper 289ci rather than the original 260 at a minimum. I saw that the box said 289 but I saw no change in the sprue images. The body mods that were such a part of the racing history (FIA, USRRC, Dragonsnake) don't seem to be offered and a "fastback top" unlike anything ever seen on an actual car. Having said all that, yep I'll likely add it to my collection if for nothing else but the wheel/tire options, FI intake tubes and the decal sheet. (sigh)

New resin model kit producer I found.
The Junkman replied to PHolden74's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yes, its hard to tell anything from a render though I think it might be more likely to be a 3D print than resin. I do like their future projects (esp. the DB4GT) but will wait to see what they offer in 1/24. -
NNL West this Saturday (no connection to the organizers)
The Junkman replied to The Junkman's topic in Contests and Shows
I saw them! Was most taken by the GT40 detail under hood. Also the samples of Dale King's work was inspiring. ($81 for gas round trip. Reminds me of living in LA where trips weren't measured by miles but by time). -

Saturday in Healdsburg, CA: the kind of town where really rich guys take their girlfriends/mistresses/wives for the weekend and with 8,000 population it has 5 Michelin starred restaurants. I even have been to one. Anyway there was a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta in Resale Red just parked on the street like it belonged there. -
I admit I'm awash in old school thinking but the concept of (and operation of) EV off road vehicles completely befuddles me. Sure the inherent torque figures for EV motors has a great quality on its own but at some point you're going to run out of juice on Hell's Reach Trail in Moab or the Rubicon Trail. Then what? Solar? How many days will that take? Gas powered generator? Kinda defeats the purpose of an EV. I admit my ignorance and I'm sure to be corrected. Local and/or commercial operation, great. Extended trips or spur of the moment, not seeing it.

To paraphrase "Without chemical (enhancement), life itself would be impossible".
