  1. sure is i will be using that rear end and the driveshaft you send with it (it turned out the 1.8 came with a tranny i could modify to work but i didnt know that when i requested one) as for lettering on the tailgate, i do like the idea but i am not sure if i will, i mean "volkswagen" is a lot of letters for a rather small tailgate if i can find someone willing to make me a decal i might just put "v-dub" on there or "wildcart" yeah, i like that ill try to go with that
  2. if you pay close attention to the front beam of the frame you'll see it is actually build out of 4 parts 3 of them are 1/8 tubing drilled out to 3/32 the 4th part is a 3/32 rod all three of the tubes are slid onto the rod and the outer two are gleud on the one in the middle is loose and will rotate thats what the nose will be gleud onto in order to flip i am planning on keeping all of the body as it is right now and adding the box pretty much like you said i dont think im gonna ad a cover for it, you see, the floor os made out of styrene 1 beams and the wood is made out of, well you guessed it, wood therefor i dont want to hide it
  3. everyone has thier favorite type of tape but i will tell you right now, bleu paper painters tape wont cut it go to your local hobby shop and ask the clerk what he would use thats what i did also, as far as the flames, that might be a hair too much i have a challenger i build when i was younger and i put on both the T/A striping and the custom decals and it just doesnt look right but then again, its your car build it how your son likes it
  4. ok guys here are some realy crude mock up nothing is set in stone yet as far as ride hieght, fender gap and what not also, im thinking i should build some sort of tail gate still got a long long way to go but its a start as always, input, suggestions and tips are always apreciated
  5. those are pretty spiffy however vw made a beetle duting WW2 that looks an awefull lot like that so lest i got acused of building a actual factory truck mine will be much more radical i dumped the aircooled boxer and went with a 1.8 GTI engine with a custom turbo on it that will be mounted under the hood (you know, on the front of the car) hooked up to a ford 9 inch rear end and this will allow me to build a bed that is a much better depiction of contempary trucks ill shoot some shots after i get back from church today
  6. first of....welcome as mentioned before this is a place for modelers of all ages and skill levels as a mather of fact there are more then a few skilled modelers on here who take great joy in helping the ones who come after then ahead (id mention a few but i dont want to leave anyone out) having said that...if i could offer up a word of advise (this is just my personal opinion so dont be afriad to ignore it) but i think it would look very nice if you could put a pinstripe in between the green and blue maybe a silver stripe to make it flow or red to make it pop also i think its really cool you get to work for/with your son i dont have any kids yet so i got to settle for my nephew if you have any questions browse our "tips and tricks" section and if you dont find the awnsers there just post a request (feel free to shoot me a PM if you cant figure it out and ill see if i can point you in the right direction)
  7. so far most of my body work has been chopping that was the easy part now i need to make it all fit back together that will be the not so easy part plus...im kinda stumped on how to build the bed of the truck im tempted to radius the tailgate to make it look like a bug but im afraid that would just look like a convertible
  8. im using 3/32 rod for the turbo and he exhaust piping 1/8 tube for the charge pipes (i started building mine but didnt have a chance to finish or take pictures yet)
  9. you have paint on your engine allready i barely got the two halves together

  11. taxi is a french movie (i think) made in 98 it has 2 sequel in french with the origenal cast (including the 406) it was written by luc besson, the same guy who wrote the movie taken (you can tell when you look at the car chase scene in taken when the guy steals the jeep and the albanians chase him) the story goes as follows daniel is a pizza delivery boy whos greatest aspiration is to become a racecar driver but because his did died in a racecar crash his mom would never let him so he settles for the next best thing, a job as a taxi driver his ride is a fully pimped out peugeot 406 with a V6 engine in it on one of his trips he picks up emilien emilien works at IBM (or so he says so not all his friends ask him to "fix" thier speedinf tickects) daniel and emilien have a spirited conversation where daniel calls the cops idiots (among other things) and breaks the speedlimit by more then 60 MPH when daniel drops emilien of at his destination this turns out the be the local cop shop and emilien turns out to be a cop he arrests daniel and threathens to take his license away but daniel cuts a deal there is a group of germans who drive red mercedes' and rob banks, if daniel can help emilien catch then he can keep his freedom and his license my favorite scene in the movie: daniel is taking his fare to the hospital and comes upon a rally race him and his fare have a discussion on weather the car in front of them (and soon enough behind them) i a actual racecar daniel claims it is not, he just dressed up his car to impress the girls and he passes him by in a chicane also, i think there was a us remake of this movie back in 04 ish but i never saw that one
  12. how a bout the 406 that daniel drove in taxi ? i mean, he wasnt a detective but he was forced to act as one in order to retain his drivers licence

  14. thats a nice little grocery getter i have one question though, the botom part of the car is black all the war 'round except for the back part of the front fenders why is that ?
  15. wiki on the car : Originally, Blinn was to have Starsky drive a Chevrolet Camaro convertible because he fondly remembered a green and white one that he owned. However, when production started on the pilot episode, Ford Motor Company's Studio-TV Car Loan Program was the lease supplier for Spelling-Goldberg. They looked at lease stock and chose two 1975 351 Windsor V8-powered (VIN code "H") "Bright Red" (paint code 2B) 2-door Gran Torinos. Both cars had a 'role' in the pilot movie, one being "Starsky's" car, and the other being a similar car which is mistaken for Starsky's car by the film's villains. They each had body-side moldings along with a black interior with vinyl bench seats. Interestingly, one of the 'pilot' cars had the 'luxury' remote-control chrome mirrors installed, while the other 'pilot' car had the cheaper, entry-level manual chrome mirrors installed. Unfortunately, in editing the film, Starsky and Hutch are shown to be driving around in each of the two cars at different times during the film. The cars were also custom painted (on top of the factory red paint color) with the distinctive white "vector" stripe designed by Spelling-Goldberg's transportation coordinator George Grenier. The rear ends were lifted by air shocks, and had "U.S." brand 5-slot mag wheels added with larger rear tires. While the tires were mounted so that only the blackwall side would show, thus hiding any unauthorized brand-name display, in one first season episode ("Kill Huggy Bear"), a close-up shot of the villain cutting the rear brake lines shows the letters on the inside-facing side of the tires to say 'Firestone'. It is reported that the original 2.75:1 ratio rear axle gearing (standard on non-police Torinos from 1975 onward) was replaced with numerically higher ratio gears for better acceleration during stunt driving scenes; in the 1999 interview, Glaser said that "We finally had to get a new rear end put in it so that at zero to sixty it had some pop." At least one of the second-season cars was known to have a Dymo label prominently attached to the dashboard which read "DO NOT EXCEED 50 MPH"; this was probably due to the fact that the revised gearing would cause the engine revolutions per minute (RPM) to go to a higher level, possibly leading to engine damage. For the start of the second season, these were replaced by three 1976 Gran Torinos that had vinyl split-bench seats like the pilot episode cars. The new cars were ordered under Ford's fleet program, which is what was required to get them painted in the previous year's 'Bright Red'(2B), as Ford used a different shade of red for new standard-order Torinos by this point. These newer cars can be identified by their silver 'sight shields' (bumper filler panels) which Ford used on specially painted fleet-ordered cars. They also had the luxury chrome mirrors like one of the pilot cars. Even though the body-colored 'sport' mirrors were still a Torino option in 1976, they could not be installed on a fleet-ordered specialty-painted car, as Ford had no provision for producing those mirrors in anything other than the regular production colors listed for that year. And since the 2B bright red was a special fleet-ordered color for the '76 model year, the cars came equipped with the chrome mirrors. The body-side moldings were installed on these cars and the stripe was, unlike the pilot cars, integrated with the moldings. They were powered by 460 Lima V8s (VIN code "A") , and Spelling-Goldberg kept these Torinos until production ceased. While these were the biggest, most powerful engines available from Ford at the time, they were still woefully underpowered at 202 net horsepower. cliff notes: the origenal cars were 1975 models by the second season these were replaced by 76ers
  16. lol, its no biggy i always thought it should have been a 75 anyway wikipedia, here i come

  18. wow memories galore that alfa is just the bomb i remember one of my very first jobs was at a alfa romeo tuner...just kinda cleaning shop at first and doing grunt work i saw i dont know how many absolutly gorgeous and just insanly tuned alfas one of my most favorite was a bright yellow GTA that had a ton of custom body parts on it we took just about every panel of and had it replicated in fiber glass (per customers request) then we slapped in a V6 it had the alfa romeo scuderia bodykit on it which i personally rivetted to the body, just like the origenal cars had when the owner came to pick up the car he was estatic this thing was a beast the only thing that could put a damper on the whole car was its weight when we build it we didnt know the class the owner intended to run in once we figured out what class it was we realised that with all the custom fiberglass panels the car weighed in at almost 300 pounds below minumum
  19. i got the engine in the mail today so ill be starting to build the engine here pretty quickly i found some very nice drawings on the line so i thought i would share them here
  20. what i do is the following : 1 rev the engine to about 3700 RPM where the turbo puts out 16 PSI 2 shift into 1st gear 3 drop the cutch 4 smoke the tires 5 once the tires stop smoking i take of most people will wait for the "ahum" smoke to clear
