Competition Cobra, worth a look
Brett Barrow replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Grand Sports they bought already made and bagged from the Sherrif's auction at Accurate's warehouse in North Carolina. They just had to make boxes and decal sheets. MRC bought the name, Academy has the tools in their factory. I highly doubt any steel was cut, but there may have been some development done. More likely they were just feeling the waters. -

Accurate Miniatures had announced a 289 Cobra before they went belly up. I'd like to see it happen. Hope it does one day. -
What 1/25 Kits Were Molded in Orange?

One of the many iterations of the Revell 64 Thunderbolt was orange. -
What 1/25 Kits Were Molded in Orange?
Brett Barrow replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For snappers, the Hot Wheels version of the Revell 63 Corvette Coupe was orange, but like the 68 Camaro that wasn't a factory color. The 2010 Mustang Convertible is a gold that falls within the orange spectrum, but it is kinda funky plastic. -
I wonder if R2 listens ?
Brett Barrow replied to w451973's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have them, they're much too deep and too big in diameter, the tires are funky and no standard tire will fit them. They just don't have the look. The ones in the 60 Ford (and the "Americans" in the 69 Hurst Olds) are much closer to the real deal: I came up with a way to modify the Pegasus wheels, but it's a lot of work, and without a lathe I end up ruining 1 out of every 4 -

"NEW" MPC Dukes of Hazzard kit not what you expected
Brett Barrow replied to Greg Myers's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The General Lee? Yeah, I know. I was lamenting the last few kits from the AMT label being so poor. I hope they do something new under the label, I have a good feeling they will, but no "inside" knowledge of anything in the works. Tom Lowe's second time around in the model kit business. He founded Playing Mantis (Polar Lights/Johnny Lightning) then sold it to RC2. After seeing how RC2 seemed to be pretty much abandoning Polar Lights and their other model kit lines, he bought them back, along with AMT and MPC. Saved the brands, if you ask me. I don't say stuff like this often, and I don't say it lightly - but RC2 was the worst. The. Worst. -
Great thread. I gotta get crackin on my SS/DA...

"NEW" MPC Dukes of Hazzard kit not what you expected
Brett Barrow replied to Greg Myers's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Round2 did the 66 Batmobile, but under the Polar Lights brand and that was during the days when Round2 was just licensing the brand names and leasing the tools, so I don't know who was really behind that one, RC2 or Round2 (I'm going to bet on Round2, RC2 was the worst!) I don't really count the DoAllSer-sourced promos either. Last all-new AMT kit was probably the 05 Chrysler 300 or 05 Cadillac Escalade. They're the last I can think of. Nope - just remembered (I had filed most of these away in the dark recesses of my brain, never to be thought of again), NASCAR Car of Tomorrow. Please Round2, do not let these be the last all-new AMT kits ever made... -
Galaxie Limited's '48 Chevy Coupe
Brett Barrow replied to lordairgtar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
They're planning on selling these sheets on their own, right? They look good enough. Are the "Instigator" and "Six Shooter" decals on the coupe sheet based on real cars? -
I deal with this situation all the time at work. 9 times out of 10 a neighbor got it. Or check your backdoor or porch if you have one you don't use often, they will often stick it there out of sight. Even though it was sent in an envelope it was sent through package service like a box would have been. They may have attempted to deliver to your door. It may have been a different carrier than the other or the one who delivers letters and came at a different time of day. Not sure what recourse you have with First-Class I would at least try to file a claim with the USPS if you can. I don't like First-Class because it isn't insured like Priority is. We only send low-value stuff First Class.

Oh, and do model companies listen to our feedback? When's the last time you saw a new kit in a doughnut box? -

I don't know if I'd want to join a group where I'm called an idiot on a pretty regular basis... -

My 5-year-old niece and my 3-year-old nephew both make the "Dixie" horn sound when jumping their Hot Wheels. True story. -
Is the body already trimmed? You can use a piece of the excess lexan to test your combination out. I always liked to trim mine rough, leaving about 1/8" around the edge, then grind it to the line with a Dremel. I did quite a few back in the days I was in the hobby shop full-time, not so much anymore I just do it Saturdays now. Oh, and don't forget to take the protective outer wrap off before you sticker it, I don't know how many times I've seen people forget to do that. Even with the big blue sticker Pro-Line puts on theirs, they still don't do it.

Yep. Tamiya also makes RC paints, the PC (bottle) and PS (spray) lines. Great Planes has recently brought out R/C paint from Duratrax brand to replace the discontinued Pactra lineup. Regular hobby paints will stick - for a while - then will flake off as the body flexes. They can be used for small details, or on hard plastic detail parts that some crawler bodies com with. Do the white last, the white will act as a backer coat and give bright colors more pop. . Do black areas first. With Lexan bodies you work dark to light, the opposite as you would on a solid body. You also do the small detail areas first, then the overall color coats - like I said, the opposite of how we do solid bodies. Note - I have heard of people having success with "regular" hobby lacquers like Tamiya and Testors or auto store touchup paint, but many of them took extra precautions with prep work and using a sealer afterwards. YMMV.

Montezemolo steps down as Ferrari president
Brett Barrow replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Apparently Montezemolo felt that Ferrari was becoming "too American" . Here's a sneak peek at their 2015 lineup. What do you think? H/t to jalopnik.com for this wonderful 'shop. -
"NEW" MPC Dukes of Hazzard kit not what you expected
Brett Barrow replied to Greg Myers's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I sold 3 over the past weekend, I don't think any of them were older than mid-20's. Beginning modelers aren't necessarily kids, one guy who bought one just came into the shop with his buddy who was in buying some supplies, but he was not a modeler. He bought it just to give modeling a try. Who knows, maybe he'll be back, maybe he'll end up with a stash of hundreds of kits, maybe he'll end up on here whining about how come there's no 1987 Mercury Topaz... -
And the U.S. Postal service wonders why they are losing money.

I'm pretty sure I've seen Jamie Hood (Round 2's brand manager for Polar Lights, Lindberg, and Hawk) post occasionally on sci-fi boards. He and his AMT counterpart John Greczula post on Round2's blog (Jamie more often than John) at http://www.collectormodel.com They'll answer questions in the comments if you ask them. Sometimes you gotta go to them, not wait around for them to come to you.
