  1. Believe it or not, there's also a 1/35th scale kit of this. It's being reissued soon. http://forum.largescalemodeller.com/topic/2199-135-dora-railway-gun-800mm/
  2. It's model cars we're talking about here. Even if Tim was a corporate shill (and I don't think he is) what harm does it do? Not like he's shilling for tobacco or harmful drugs... To take this so far as to call people you don't even know idiots for releasing a model that's been on the market all of a week is a bit premature if you ask me. These could end up being a big success for Revell and (heavens forbid) get some new modelers into the hobby. So many people have railed against the model companies for not doing enough to attract new modelers to the hobby them one goes and does something new and they're idiots for it? A little unfair if you ask me. Might as well go ahead and put me into the corporate shill category too, because I pretty much agree with everything Tim has said.
  3. Alright, I unlocked it as some folks felt I didn't give Mr. Boyd a chance to defend himself. Have at it fellas, I'm pretty much done with this topic ( and this board in general to be perfectly honest)
  4. Asked Revell about the Crown Vic, they explained they chose it because they needed something that could be on the shelves in time for Christmas. The 15 Mustang was such a hit, they decided to create a new line of similar kit of that (lack of) complexity. In order to get these out in time for Christmas they needed to pick subjects that they had design work already completed (why the rest are snap versions of kits already in the lineup). I'm taking them at their word that it's not the Lindberg kit, but we'll see. It wouldn't shock me if it is, or at least based on the basic design (maybe that designer now works for Revell and brought it with him. Or maybe Revell started development of this years ago and shelved it when the Lindberg came out) So whatever, buy them, don't buy them, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the target market for these kits aren't MCM readers...
  5. Unrelated to the AMT kit, from the days when MPC and AMT were separate companies. Never owned the MPC but have always heard it has the best body proportions of all the styrene 49 Mercs on the market.
  6. Well, this went off the rails. Anybody has anything relevant to add, pm me. I'm locking it before it gets out of hand.
  7. Teenage me (heck, adult me for that matter) would have been ecstatic with the finish on my ZL1. Except for the mold lines it's flawless. I've seen far worse on contest tables. That runny Challenger needs to be returned to Revell (and it's in the shop I work for part time, I'll see that it is returned when the boss gets back from vacation) but the other 7 prepaints on that same shelf looked good (same shelf my ZL1 came off of) I give props to Revell for trying something new - a prepainted kit that doesn't come with a premium price. I hope they're successful. I'm sure there will be a bit of a learning curve with QC at first, these have only been on the market a week.

  9. And the note attached to it says "Very Poor, Rust" or something to that effect. I know Model King wanted to do it when they did the other AWB's so it might not be in good enough shape.
  10. I'd expect a 2nd version of the new Revell 67 Camaro to follow soon, keeping with their recent track record. Hopefully a hidden-headlight grille version.
  11. They've sold a ton and they're still making them. I think they made the right call. It's a 4-door world.
  12. Wow, did not expect this much to be done to this one, just expected a straight reissue. I bought the original ProModeler kit back when it was new and ending up selling it untouched a couple years later. Always kinda regretted getting rid of it, now I'm glad I did.
  13. I'm going to try. It is molded in color, the paint is very thin. I like the color I think I'll keep it but I'll fix the mold lines and my self-inflicted hood f@#$%-up.
  14. The smell of paste wax makes me think of my grandpa, too. As does shoe polish... "A can of Simoniz!"
  15. Does not rule out my interior idea... I REALLY hope that's it!!!
  16. That brick must have sold well because I see them all over. I kinda like them. That is ugly. Retro is over. IMHO, anyway.
  17. As is the case with almost anything I touch, disaster strikes! I was trying to pop off the hood hinges to get a pic of the underhood detail and wound up breaking a corner of the hood off. Oh well, I'll fix it and strip and repaint it, which I was planning to do anyway, but I was looking forward to mocking it up with the factory paint and letting it set on the shelf until I got around to it. Totally my fault, I was trying to pop the hinges back through the slots instead of just snipping the pins off with a sprue cutter. Here is the underhood detail, the hood also has detail on the underside, I just didn't snap a pic of it (yet) And the inside of the body shell for those contemplating a full kit chassis swap
  18. It works through your distributor. And remember that the biggest distributor of all, Great Planes/Hobbico, owns Revell. You buy an assortment - either the "small" or "large" and you get a certain quantity of all that month's new kits regardless of subject, you can't pick and choose, you get them all. If you sell out of one then you have to wait for regular distribution. You're billed by your distributor, ships direct from Revell's warehouse. It's a good program, we can't do it because we don't have a brick-and-mortar store. Brick-and-mortars have plenty of challenges and onlines have plenty of advantages (I've done both) so letting brick-and-mortars have new product 2 weeks early is no skin off our back, especially when they're forced to buy it all including reissues. The ones taking advantage are the ones buying it under the auspices of a brick-and-mortar store then turning around and selling on eBay.
  19. There's nothing that looks like it would interfere. Certainly looks way easier than putting the snap Mustang Convertible on the glue chassis. I'll snap a picture of the inside of the body shell when my battery recharges. Note that these are only shipping to RPP shops this first month, the full shipment of the ZL1 and Challenger pre-paints won't hit non-RPP shops and full distribution until next month.
  20. Yeah, after looking at them on a different screen, I'm now sure that's Coronado Red/Honduras Maroon.
  21. Pontiac's Coronado Red is the same as Chevy Honduras Maroon. I'm sure they have it. You can even get it in Testors lacquer. The car pictured might just be good ol' Resale Red, though.
  22. Plus no vinyl seats and the body is one piece - no separate front and rear fascias to worry about the seams.
  23. Forgot to get one of the wheels/tires. The "ZL1" engraving on each wheel seems to vary from legible to barely detectible - I intentionally picked the worst one. These will need to be stripped of plating and undercoat and hopefully the engraving will be sharp on the raw plastic. The real wheels aren't chrome or polished anyway, they're argent with the flats on the spokes machined.
  24. I've always heard that smell is connected to our memory more than any other sense.
