  1. Thanks guys! Like I said, good looking kit when built, and I think it's one of my better paint jobs. Since you asked about the color, Mark, I shot a white base coat followed by a custom mix of orange and red. About a 1/4 oz of orange, then a splash of red, and then 10 more drops of red to darken it up. I know, that doesn't help much. The original color was Ford Poppy Red which is sort of orange, Gas Rhonda's cars were the same color. I think there's a company out there that sells the correct colors in spray bombs and by the ounce for airbrushing. Thanks for looking!
  2. It's done! I finished it up this afternoon. Here the photos of the finished model:
  3. I've been home for a week after surgery so I've been working on the Daddy Warbucks Falcon, one of my faves from back in the day. The kit is not accurate by any stretch, but it looks good when done. So I added some details to the fuel injection and wired the engine with the correct firing order (like anyone could tell). I'm working on buttoning her up so I thought I'd share some pictures. If I did this again I'd use brass instead of plastic for the linkage, the plastic is too thick and out of scale, but that was all I had at the house. Oh, I also did this while 1/2 stoned on painkillers, so if it looks bad just tell me. I won't know or care for a couple of hours! Here's the photos, comments welcome!
  4. Nope! We have a better block of wood! Hand crafted by another club member. So that's like a two-fer, a cool painted slab o' 'luminum AND a hunk o' wood. This is going to be the bestest show ever!
  5. This year at the Second Annual Buckeye Classic Model Car Contest (or SABCMCC) we will have a best paint award chosen by me! It will go to the car with the best use of color, artistic originality, wildest paint tricks, or just plain kick butt cool paint. You will receive this hand painted aluminum panel with gold leaf and hand lettering. So bring out your best stuff and take home the coolest award south of the Autorama! And no, you don't get the Kentucky Colonel commission!
  6. So at the meeting last night at the meeting we're talking about the number of tables sold for the swap area, and we notice we're sneakin' up on runnin' out of real estate to put tables on. If you want a spot to sell your stuff, you need to act now, they are going fast! Follow the link at the bottom of this post to our website for more info. There's also entry form and stuff.
  7. 27 Days to go!!! Are your models ready for some competition? Is your wallet ready for the great shopping? Are you ready to hang out with the coolest crew in modeling history? Make sure you make plans to be at the Buckeye Classic! Come see the chick magnets of the modeling world in action! Remember, it's just plastic cars!
  8. The BSAC meets this Thursday evening at 7:30 in the pm at Panera Bread on the corner of State St & Maxtown Rd in Westerville, O-HI-Ya! It's Nova Night the Same Kit Night COPO Novas are due, so make sure you have yours done. We'll be finalizing the plan for our upcoming show, passing out jobs to volunteers, and wrapping up that to do list. See you there!!
  9. You're Welcome! Sorry you couldn't make it, but I hope we'll see you and your crew from Cleveland next month at the Buckeye Classic?

  11. Drive 3 hours to enter a contest and watch club members give each other awards and then you'll have your answer. You'll do it once, then it becomes a club contest!
  12. We look forward to having you! Bring a model or 20 and hang out and have some laughs. We'll see you both there!
  13. Dude! Are ya livin' in a timewarp?!? Today is the 6th and the 18th is 12 days away! I think ya been huffin' too many paint fumes! Just kiddin', dude! I know you wouldn't let me get by with it either!

  15. We had a great turnout with lots of models. Photos will be forthcoming! (as soon as I get them out of my smarter than me phone!)
  16. That's why I have the link to the club's website in my signature line! But since you asked, the meeting is at Panera Bread on the corner of State St and Maxtown rd in Westerville, OH (that's just north of Columbus, the state capital and home of the OSU Buckeyes!!!) That'll be a looong trip from Florida, but we hope to see you there!
  17. I'm bringing the Nova "Surprise" tonight, it's almost finished. A few little detail things to finish up, door handles, decals and such. For those not in the know, we're doing the Revell '69 Nova as a same kit in the club to show off at our show on the 25th of March. See you guys tonight!
  18. My dog ate it?!? Really? Being a teacher that excuse seems pretty lame to me!
  19. A hunnert! But you only have 5 mins to tell the story of them all! Bring as many as you want, we like to see the table full and to hear about old builds. I'm just hoping to have the '66 Chevy body done for the club build!
  20. The BSAC is having their February meeting! The theme is your favorite model car, here's a chance to drag out the one you love the most and show it off. No matter how long ago you built it, no matter how well it's built, no matter how many are your faves, bring 'em! That cool car you built when you were 8 that you think is the cat's pajamas; bring it! Your first model that was in a magazine; bring it! It'll be a smorgasboard of plastic coolness. See you there!
  21. I hear the guys running this show are super awesome and devastatingly handsome, besides being in the top 1% of the IQ scale. Or maybe not. So show up and find out for yourself!
  22. The models were shown, judged, and the votes were counted, and the winner of the first "Joker Awards" went to: And: To see more, go to: http://www.bsacohio.com/JanPhoto.html We had a great time! See you next month!
  23. I was speaking in hypothetically! Let me just say that the size of the shifter knob is probably not going to make or break a quality winning build either way.
  24. Well, the roof was a little too high so I chopped it a little. I used the kit parts and a little putty, that's all. The suspension was a little high so I just redrilled the holes in the wheels to have it sit lower. I used the kit parts and just drilled holes in them. I used the sprue that came in the box to build a roll cage with a little epoxy. It came in the box and I only added a little epoxy to clean it up. I added epoxy to the tires to make them wider and then some putty to the fenders to flare them out a little so the fenders would fit, it all came from the box to start. I cut a hole in the hood so the blower would fit. The blower was made out of the extra customizing parts that came in the box, well, that and a little putty. It was only stuff from the box. I used the instructions to make the seat belts and melted down the extra metal axle to make seat belt buckles, but that stuff was in the box. So are we discussing the letter of the law or the spirit of the law? Because if we are discussing the letter of the law, you can do the win at all costs thing as described. If we are discussing the spirit of the law, you cannot modify any kit parts except to correct manufacturing flaws. The idea is to level the playing field to let modelers compete at the basic skill level to see who's modeling skill is the best. Not who can add the most modifications. That is the slippery slope of it. If you want to modify parts, there are plenty of classes for you to compete in. Oh, and have fun! Because that is the point!
