Hey, that looks great! I have one of those in the works, but I'm thinking of doing it in a different color.

Hmmmm. This may or may not work. If you used regular enamel thinner, it may never dry! I've used lacquer thinner in green or red putty, and it does work, but it shrinks a lot worse than normal. There's a guy on eBay selling a product called Premier Utility Paste. (Can your putty do this?) I bought some, and it's great stuff! It brushes on, dries in a reasonable amount of time, and shrinks very little, if at all. I've also heard you can mix Squadron white putty with liquid cement and make a good brushable putty.

anyone interested in a 24th scale VW thing?
mrglubaum replied to monkeyclaw's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The Jada Thing would be the last one I'd use for a master! Jada doesn't know what the word "scale" means. Their stuff just keeps getting bigger and bigger, but they still advertise it as being 1/24 scale. Their Thing is probably closer to 1/20. I'd be interested in a resin kit of the 181. If you do it, I'll buy at least two copies, one for stock and one for a radical off-roader! -
I buy and sell under the I.D. of "dsldriver". You'll usually find me trying to buy old built-ups, but I don't get too crazy. I've found out the best way to get the model companies to reissue a kit is for me to pay a big price for an old one on eBay! I've noticed those 1/32 Petes bringing high prices, but I can't really figure out why! Another kit that brings high prices is the old 1/25 snap Kenworth. I'm hoping they reissue it as a follow up after the recent snap Pete!

I got the condo cab from him. It's not a bad casting, just has some air holes and other minor issues. Much of the interior will have to be scratchbuilt, but that can be done with sheet plastic. I had to cut mine down to make my mid-roof, now he makes one that can be built either way. I'd like to get the Classic XL kit myself! -

Oooooo! The Phantom Corsair! That's got to be a neat model! I've seen the actual car when it was at Harrah's. It may not have been a practical car, but it sure was cool looking! -

Well Bob, I kinda knew about that, but there are so many great resin kits out there, I can't buy them fast enough! I've lost a few by the casters going belly up, but I still have plenty to work on! That Cortina was a 2dr sedan, I believe a '65. It was a complete kit. -

I hope someone did get the molds and starts using them! I'd like that MG Airline coupe! -
I need help.

The Louisville Ford doesn't use piano hinges. The door hinges are more like a pickup or automobile. I've seen paper clips used for hinges, but I'd have a heck of a time trying to explain how they work! There has been several tutorials on paper clip hinges in the model magazines over the years. Maybe one of the other members can steer you onto them. -

Speaking of those hemi-powered air raid sirens, check out this link! There are pictures, lots of info, and best of all, sound clips that will make your hair stand on end! http://www.victorysiren.com/x/index.htm -
? about engine in new Ala Kart kit
mrglubaum replied to USAC_1957's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Chrysler Hemi came out in 1952, with 331 cubic inches displacement. It was later increased to 354c.i., then to 392 c.i. in 1957. The Dodge Red Ram was originally a hemi, with 241 cubic inches displacement. I found the info on it in the 1952 Chrysler service manuals. http://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Lit/Master/059/page04.htm I found more info at classichemi.com. http://classichemi.com/redram.shtml Dodge later used the Red Ram name on non-hemi engines, this may be the cause of some confusion. I hope this helps clear things up a bit. -

mrglubaum replied to USAC_1957's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ken is correct about most of this, the engine in the new kit is supposed to be a Red Ram, but it's scaled too small. The '29 Ford roadster kit has the Red Ram, complete with the valve covers. The '53 Ford pickup kit has the DeSoto hemi, which has the larger block than the Red Ram Dodge hemi. -
Thanks, Brian! That '32 Chevy was one of those kits just gathering dust, until a friend and I were talking about how you always see '32 Fords, but you hardly ever see a '32 Chevy as a street rod. We had a little contest between us, I built mine, he built a fenderless version. His is a bright metallic yellow, with an unchopped top. I always get more done when there's a little friendly competition going on.

Thanks, Irv! I'm a big fan of your work!

'64 Rambler American, built from an old busted up promo. I used a roof from a Jo-Han Pro-Street '66 American. '69 Camaro Z-28, Revell kit, I did everything wrong on this one and it still came out great! '93 Caprice Taxi, built from the AMT snap kit. A quick, fun build! Stickers from the Revell Caprice. '57 Volkswagen low-bucks baja. From the Gunze Oval Window kit. Built to replicate the car my brother drove in high school. The engine came from a Tamiya '66, and was backdated to look like a 36hp. '32 Chevy street rod, '50s style. The old MPC kit. I used the engine with speed equipment from the AMT '37 Chevy. Wheels and tires came from the Revell '55 Chevy conv. I chopped the top by cutting it from the bottom, then chopped the widshield frame and made new "glass". Thanks for looking!

Finally got this one done! 1959 Buick.........Updated Pics!

That little bit of work sure made a big difference! -
Good tip! I used to do exactly that when I lived in Idaho. One of the best paint jobs I've ever done was shot outside in below zero weather. I think it was due to the lack of dust and humidity.

Wow, a lot of detail on that one! Great build!
