I went off the deep end...
mrglubaum replied to Casey429's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I like working on die-cast myself, for a change of pace once in a while. -
Charlie, Using the '50 as a donor kit, every body style available in 1950 can be built with just a little effort. In addition, there are a few nice phantom conversions available. Here's what I have in my collection: convertible (plastic) club coupe (plastic, AMT '49 using '50 parts) business coupe (plastic, use '49 body and remove back seat) Crestliner 2dr sedan (resin, Modelhaus) standard 2dr sedan (resin, roof only, Modelhaus) station wagon (resin, R&R Vacuumcraft) 4dr sedan (fiberglass, Jaymar, may be availale in resin from R&R) Austrailain "ute" pickup (fiberglass, Jaymar) phantom three window coupe (resin, Hendrix Mfg.) phantom fastback sedan (resin, Hendrix Mfg.) phantom sedan delivery (resin, Jimmy Flintstone) phantom 2dr hardtop (resin, use Hendrix '51 Victoria body with '50 parts) The '49-'51 Ford is my all-time favorite car, both in scale and full size!

Updated----Sliding back door in '51 Chevy sedan delivery
mrglubaum replied to BIGTRUCK's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I really like that car! I'm fascinated with the back door setup! I've never seen one like that before. -
My latest completion: 1969 Pontiac Firebird
mrglubaum replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Nice Firebird, Billy! I like the way the scripts came out. That originally was an MPC kit, I have one of the old MPC boxes around here somewhere. -
New project - 9/20/06

Looks good, tim! Coming right along! -
Basically, a good, straight shot from the four sides. Then a measurement of box length, width, and depth, and a cab length, width and depth. A shot into the interior with the driver's door open would help as well. I think I can get the rest off the internet from old brochures, etc. No hurry on this. If you don't get to it until next spring, I'm sure I can find something else to work on! No shortage of projects here! Thanks!

1960 Ford Pick up
mrglubaum replied to Irvin Arter Jr.'s topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice, Irv! Very nice! -
Sounds like you might have used an enamel base primer. I use only Plasti-Kote or Dupli-Color lacquer primers, and have had nothing but great luck with the Testor's Model Master Lacquers. In fact, it's about the only paint I'll use now! Don't toss the kit into the parts bin! The body should strip just fine with CSC or oven cleaner. Especially since the laquer is fresh.

Casey, As the others have noted, the chrome comes off in a very short time, but the clear coat under the chrome can take several days. I usually just leave the clear on there if it isn't messed up. (Sometimes they put it on kinda thick or even get runs in it!). Make sure you wear the rubber gloves, and wash the parts off really well with clear water, and let them dry completely before you try and paint them.

That looks great! I've been meaning to try this soon, but I do have a question. Should the paint be removed from the letters after priming, and again after painting, or is it better to just leave it until the final paint is on to reduce the risk of rubbing through the foil?

Out of the ballpark best build I've ever seen of a TKM kit! I have a couple I'm struggling with, and I'll be happy if they come out half that nice. I really enjoy my TKM kits, though. Such interesting subjects!

Interesting car! I don't think I've ever seen one of those promos! Keep us posted! -
Hello everybody.
mrglubaum replied to Mark Jeffries's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hi Mark! I checked out your albums, some nice work in there! Your how-to album was especially interesting! I like your haulers and tow trucks, too! -
Casey, the CSC works pretty good, but I prefer Westley's Bleche White (a whitewall cleaner). Neither one will harm the plastic.

Nice AMX, Bob! Was that Javelin at the NNL in 2002? I remember seeing it, or one like it while I was there.

Coolest cake I ever saw

Happy Birthday, Casey! Cool cake! Take care of those parents! Sounds like you got some great ones! -
Speaking of Notchbacks, have y'all seen the new die-cast Notch that Maisto just came out with? Sweet!

Great tip! I love the cheap stuff!
