Sure ! Sure ! It's always The Old Man's fault ! You're starting to sound like one of my exwives , Doc ! Lmao ! Hey ! Keep producing work like this and you can blame me all day long ! It's worth the price of admission , keep it rollin' !
-
Awww, man ! Will somebody please get a mop and a bucket ! Crazy Jim has slobbered all over the floor again ! Nice ! , Virgil ! Gotta love it when they turn out like this ! I am impressed , to say the least ! While you're at it , tie a bedsheet around Terry's neck , he's starting to drool too ! Old guys ! Y'all crack me up ! Lol !
-
After looking at the pictures , my opinion would be to strip it and start over again !
-
Try to wet sand it , you have nothing to lose at this point . Look at it as practice , if the spots won't go away , you'll just have to strip it and start again .
-
They aren't going to come out , my friend ! Painting with candies is tough and this is one of the reasons why . You can always try going over it with a darker colored candie , otherwise , you'll have to strip it and start over . In the future , be sure that you paint is throughly mixed ! The dark spots are created by pigment spits , straining your paint through a nylon stocking will help prevent this .
-
You do have to promise one thing though ! One of them has to be dressed out with a set of Cragar 5 spokes . Just something about those mags that makes The Old Man's heart go pitter patter ! Lol !

Umm Hmmm ! Stop Light Red Metallic with gold and orange lettering ! Yup ! I'm getting' real good at spending your money , eh , Virgil ?

Bought my Airbrush! But....

When you guys finally figure out that the Good Lord could not be so cruel as to make me as dumb as I look , it'll be alright , Chilly ! Lol ! As I said , all you have to do is adjust the needle to control the amount of paint being shot through . Once you have that down , you're going to have a nice wide fan pattern that you can mist coats on until your hearts content ! -

That much paint has nothing to do with the size of the head , Art . That is controlled by the depth of the needle . The # 5 head has a wider fan and gives a larger overall spray pattern with each pass . This allows for a smoother overall finish and avoids the dreaded " tiger stripe " pattern . -
I don't care for it.

Dagnabbit , Harry ! If the magic shields aren't working anymore , why didn't you say so ? Get em fixed Tinman ! Oh , by the way , straighten up Terry's chin strap , his helmet's canted a wee bit to the left . -

Rob, Frustrating , isn't it ? One thing that you cannot teach over the Internet , my friend , is patience ! I do believe that I know exactly who and what you are talking about , I felt your pain as I read your post on the subject . As good as the information is on this forum , there is also the bad ! It doesn't seem to matter when it comes to the age group , it goes straight across the board . Alot of people don't realize that misinformation or false praise can put a dent in the hobby in the long run . When these builds are taken to the shows , that's when the education and the painful lessons begin ! To keep the pot from boiling over , maybe a private message pointing out the flaws might be best ! If they react favorably to the criticism , continue to help out whenever you can . If not , it's the " pearls before the swine " parable and you have to forget about it ! There are individuals that preach " cheap " all the time in the hobby . All well and good until one starts using material that are completely out of scale and or incompatible with the plastic kit itself . The only consistent state that cheap materials produce ? , inconsistent results , time and time again ! -
NNL East. Just eight weeks to go.

Nice ! Now they're going to be confused as to which one of us is which ! Lol ! -
Tsk. Tsk ! You are like a little kid at Christmas , you just can't wait , can you ? Lmao ! I knew I was going to see this painted before the weather broke . Very pretty , love the color combo , smooth as silk too ! Decals with silver in them ? Maybe some light blue too ? I know a guy that might have some if you need a few ! Lol !

Hmmm ! What's the going rate for hiring chick magnets for your show ? You guys are going to go broke trying to offset the ugliness of that crew ! -
Well , now you can start foiling the '62 ! That'll keep you busy for awhile . Lol ! Picked up a bunch of kits in Richmond for a very good price , one of them being a Cobra ! I also managed to find the rust subject for the community build . Drove into Richmond on Friday , 86 degrees. Drove home Saturday evening through a blizzard , 24 degrees ! Lmao !
-
Cool ! I used to be one ! Then along came the exwives. , daughters , and guys like you ! Lmao !
-
Nice ! Ed had just cracked wise and I was about to burst out laughing ! Great ,as always , to see him ! When? Saturday . Where ? Old Dominion IPMS show in Richmond . By the way , it feels nice to be wanted ! Lol !

I Can't Paint For Nothin'
LoneWolf15 replied to Old Sprinter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You are correct ! Where the true life blood for the hobby lies , however ? My generation ! The guys that are coming back in after a long hiatus called life ! Kids are raised , retired or soon to be , have money , and they are looking for something to while away the hours with ! What better place to capture or relive a part of your childhood than model cars ? This is where the future of the hobby lies at this time . Now , try to convince certain aspects of the hobby of this fact , they'll just laugh at you ! -

LoneWolf15 replied to Old Sprinter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well , this is my observation . The new generation is no where near as stubborn as mine is . More apt to throw in the towel rather then muddle through it ! I figure the more help that we can provide in avoiding the pitfalls we went through , the better for the hobby , the more young modelers hang in with the hobby , the more money spent , etc , etc , the hobby wins , so do we all ! Remember , it does not matter how many times you get knocked down in a fight . The only thing that matters is how many times you get back up ! Lol ! So , when it comes to fussin' with Murphy or The Lady , I'm always willing to help out ! -

Cheap's a rotten creature , isn't it ? Comes right back around and bites you right square in the hind parts ! Lol ! Betcha won't do that again , huh ? Hey ! Lesson learned ! With the Internet , you young guys can profit from us older idiots mistakes without having to pay or learn the hard way on your own ! That doesn't seem fair somehow ......... Lol ! -

Yo ! Laquer Boy ! Where's my enamel paint job you promised ? Still waitingggggggggg!!!!! Lmao! Jonathan , The DVD will help you , I promise ! As for an airbrush , once you use it , you'll never want to use anything else again ! Ask Mikey ! As for the tape , the man is correct ! When you use quality products and combine it with patience , your finished result is always better by far ! Cheap is never better ! Careening around , using the cheapest product available at the moment does not allow for consistency . When you use quality products , you become familiar with them and this allows you to develop consistent results ! Are your kits cheap ? Nope ! Why take a chance on screwing up your investment by using the cheapest whatever when it comes to your supplies ? Not trying to preach at you , just want you to avoid O'l Murphy & Lady Trial N Error however I can ! They are expensive individuals !! -

Not your fault ! I apologize ! Too many hours spent getting ready for a show and not enough sleep , Kiddo! The Old Man is a bit prickly today , that's on me , not you ! This has been suggested in a far more pointed manner by others , hence my reaction ! While it is so far from being the truth , some people still might buy into it and that could cause me untold grief ! One thing you will find out , as I did , you can only do so much when explaining a method . That is the reason for the DVDs in the first place . This is a visual generation , far easier to show someone how to do something rather then try to explain it . I try to help out as much as I can on the forums and emails with the questions , but that only goes so far ! Again , I apologize for snapping at you ! The Old Man -

The DVD is $ 20 . The reason most people suggest it ? Quite possibly because it helped them out ! It's not the only method out there , that's for sure. It is , however , the only one out there that is concise and to the point when it starts at point A and takes you all the way to Z for a great finish ! Contrary to popular belief , it's not just for airbrush either . If a spray can fanatic followed all of the steps up to using the airbrush step , skipped that segment and finished at the polish out segment , their paintwork would improve dramatically too . People will spend hundreds on kits but won't spend $ 20 or $ 30 on a book or a DVD , the same goes for the tools and supplies . Makes no sense whatsoever to me , but , to each their own . As to my " paying " for individuals to promote the DVDs , I'd truly resent it if it were not so laughable ! If this were the case , I would have been living out of a cardboard box a long time ago . If you notice , I don't even have to open my mouth . More and more modelers paintwork is doing all my talking for me ! My method , their persistence and hard work ! -
Getting back into modeling

Bit of a cultural shock , eh , James ? Things sure have changed since the days of wiring your motors with Mom's sewing thread ! Welcome home , hope you enjoy yourself ! You don't have to be crazy to hang out here , but it sure seems to be contagious ! As to your El Camino question ? Nope ! No such animal offered as a standard kit . Resin ? , now that is a possibilty !
