  1. Works for me ! Get bored or fed up with one ? Break on through to the other side ! Lol ! I do believe , however , that this is a secret plot on your part to make Crazy Jim even crazier then he already is ! You're flashing back and forth across the rust / gloss line so often now that he's getting whip lash ! Tech note ... How much of the Pearl X are you adding ? I've been using two scapel blade tips per 3/4 ounces of clear . When I get back , I'm going to play with the ratios to see what I come up with . I want to see where I can achieve that slight shimmer and what it takes ratio wise to get there
  2. I do believe that this is the first time that I can feel proud to say that I've created a " monster" ! Beautiful work , Virgil ! Color worked perfectly ! So? Havin' fun in Shinetime Land yet ? Lol !
  3. As I said , two different guys who had to attend mandatory classes for this . One , who is one of my best friends , is dying of cancer because of said stupidity ! Watching your friend die by inches is no day at the beach . What makes it worse ? All because he was too rock headed to wear a respirator when spraying or doing bodywork . Too many youngsters around here to be calling it BS , by the way. Let's not teach anymore bad habits than is necessary ! Believe me , I'm guilty of it too ! Something like this has a tendency to bring the facts front and center and smacks you right between the eyes with it.
  4. Aww! Virgil ! Don't sissy up on this ! Lol ! All that pretty chrome work on the outside and you're not goin foil it ? That would really set this paint work off , you know that right ? Oh well , here's your hat , go sit in the corner , you have hurt my feelings ! Lmao !
  5. Tim , Virgil is using the Revell kit .
  6. Dragon , That is real pretty ! I like the color alot ! The stripes and base color really compliment each other !
  7. Well , you went in a different direction and faked me out again ! Lol ! I thought you were going to go with the dark green and lay the Spring and Medium Green over top . I really like the color , especially on that Cobra . You're giving me ideas , gotta get rollin' once we get back from Richmond this weekend ! I can honestly say though , If I have to polish out one mote build or body this week , I'm going to step on it ! Getting these cars ready for a show is a 2 or 3 day hassle anymore . Lookin' good , Doc ! Keep em rollin' out of the shop . I enjoy the show , that's for sure !
  8. Whole lotta foil in the interior too , Virgil ! When done up though , there are not too many that are prettier ! My suggestion , do the side chrome in pieces , just like the real thing ! Trying to do it in one piece will have you cussin' in no time ! Ask me how I know ! Lol !
  9. It didn't work , Virg ! You're still shy a couple of bulbs in the chandelier ! Then again , look whose talking , I think it's a toss up between which one of us is crazier ! Lmao !
  10. I traded the wife in ! The girlfriend ? Now that's a big difference when it comes to the hobby ! She has been there every step of the way , loves the hobby , she can build and has an eye for detail , that is second to none ! Stood right there with me when I " threw " myself off the cliff with the DVDs , fly or crash and burn , didn't matter ! She was there through thick and thin , the whole way . I found out how much easier life is when you have somebody actually pulling in the traces with you , rather than against you ! The hobby is a whole lot more fun these days , believe me !
  11. Umm hmmm ! Plenty of bare metal foil work too ! This will keep you busy for awhile , lucky you ! Lol ! Just a heads up , should you use the side glass. It needs to be shaved down going towards the rear deck . Otherwise , the interior bucket does not fit properly . When you slide the frame into the body , take care with the rear wheels , you might have to take a knife blade and pry the body out a bit to allow it to clear . This is a great kit , looking forward to see what your " twisted " mind comes up with ! Lmao !
  12. According to what was taught in the class ... When it is absorbed into the body , either through the skin or the respiratory system , it solidifys and the body cannot break it down and dispel it . It is highly toxic to the human system .
  13. Awhile back , I was asked to test shoot a new line of paint products designed for the Europeon hobby market . I did so , along with 5 other individuals from across the US spectrum . Hands down , we all flunked the product ! Gloss that turned into semi gloss after flashing out , nozzles that failed , pebbled surface , the list went on and on ! Seveal weeks ago , I'm in the booth struggling with a black paint job , past the edge of freaking out . Then , I smelled it ! The same odor that I had experienced with the " Europeon " paints ! Needless to say , the air turned blue in the booth as I cussed and roared at the top of my lungs . Kathie came running into the shop to see what was the matter , I simply told her , " Sniff the air " ! She knew in an instant what I was referring to . Sorry , Mike , we agree to disagree , again ! Lol ! Give it some time , and mark my words ! We have some real garbage coming our way , paintwise . Give me the old paint any day of the week , much more durable , with room to work within it's given parameters .
  14. Standing on the razor's edge ??
  15. Pastel chalks ! Don't like how it looks ? Wash it off and try again !
  16. You can let it flashout and try to wet sand it smooth . In my opinion , it should be stripped and redone . You were way too close and applied too much clear all at one time ! 7 or 8 light mist coats beats 2 or 3 heavy ones every single time .
  17. Jay , Yes it is ! Works like a charm , remember , light mist coats ! As for the patience , lol , that comes with age ! I think what you're feeling right now is the hunger to get rolling ! That is a good thing , but you have to be patient , refuse to get frustrated with your mistakes , learn from them , and continually move forward ! At 55 years old , I am still learning , exploring , constantly pushing that envelope ! At 34 , you have an education at your finger tips the older guys never had . Take advantage of it ! Some of the hobbies most prolific builders are here and they are always willing to lend a hand or advise. Welcome to The Styrene Addiction !
  18. Scary part of the new water based paints ? Up here , each body shop had to send their painters to class on how to use them . If an individual does not wear the protective clothing and a respirator , you will be dead within two weeks after being exposed ! This is what they were told in the class. This is going to be good for the environment ?
  19. Once upon a time .... If your new car had orange peal ? You took it back to the dealer and they'd take care of it . This is back when humans painted the cars , not computer controlled robots ! What passes for custom paint these days is deplorable . Not all the blame lies with the guy behind the gun , today's products are not the greatest . I miss the paintwork of the '60's and '70's , it was something to behold !
  20. Working shifts is really tough ! I've done it all my life so I know where you are coming from . Only advice I can offer to get out of the doldrums ? You literally have to force yourself to sit at the bench and work , make it a form of discipline . Once you start doing this , you will find yourself getting lost in a build again and enjoying it . You are actually suffering from a form of depression , a common malady amongst those who work night turn . You just have to fight through it . Now that I work steady 3 to 11 , I can spend at least 4 hrs a day at the bench without interruptions should I chose to do so . Being divorced with older children does have it's benefits ! Lmao !
  21. Inline moisture / oil traps are a must ! No sense in getting Murphy involved anymore than you have to . As for the H series , for what it is worth , that's all I use . Unless you plan on intricate paintwork , you can't go wrong with the single action . Gotta walk before you run ! Maybe later down the road , you'll graduate to a dual action . I will be investing in one shortly . Looks like I'll be doing some weathering , nice to have one lying around the shop anyways !
  22. Tamiya cotton applicators and Squadron surgical blades for bare metal foiling . Surgical steel scissors for decaling and foiling . Novus system and Final Treatment detail wax for polishing out . Micro mesh 2400 to 12000 rubber backed sanding squares . A controlled painting environment !
  23. Very nice show ! Lone Wolf Custom Painting will be there , stop over and say Hi ! Donn Yost
  24. Try this approach .... Look at it as a challenge rather than an obstacle ! Box stock at the shows is the class with the highest number entered . To take a first , you have to be at the top of your game , here ! Right ? Build it as though your life depended on it . Every single mold line sanded , every part perfectly positioned , killer paint , decals , etc , you know the drill ! Build a subject you throughly enjoy ! After you've shown it , you can always take it back apart and detail it to the max . Win win situation ! Oh , and quit banging your head off things . There are too many examples around here of how it can alter your thinking process and how you'll turn out later in life !!!! Yes ! I am one of them !!! Lol !
