A Plea for a RUST ONLY Section!
LoneWolf15 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A popular misconception .... The DVD teaches far more than just airbrushing . Proper paint environment , tools , body and parts preparation , how to apply paint , polishing out a finish , etc ! 90 minutes of instruction that will help both the airbrush and spray can users ! The tips and tricks ? 4 hrs worth of how tos using the KISS principle ! -

Andy , Listen up , Kiddo ! You have something that alot of the older builders on this forum never had ! An education , like no other , and it's all at your fingertips at any given moment ! How you use that education , or how you allow it to influence your model building skills is all on you ! My DVDs , Virgil's book on weathering , Bob Downie's book on airbrushing , etc , would all make great Christmas / birthday presents ! They will cut your learning curve by literal decades . They will make you an excellent modeler as long as you have patience and apply the principles put forth . You do realize of coarse , that some of the individuals that you go round and round with on the forum are some of the best in the hobby ? Just my opinion , you would be far better served to allow them to teach you to be a better modeler rather than to do battle with them ! All it would take would be a slight change in your attitude , no shoulder chip in otherwords , Capice ? If someone chums the water with you , don't rise to the bait , be here to learn rather than a target for confrontation . -

Harry , You're not too cheap , note the cost of a Pocher kit , right ? Just teasin' as usual , Tinman ! Just my opinion , if I were laying out $1000.00 plus for a kit , I'd figure out a way to lay down an immaculate paint job each and every time ! Hint ! Hint ! Lmao ! -

Story of your life , eh , Swamp Boy ? Dollar short , and a day late ! Gol durn southerner ! Lmao ! Hey ! Package arrived ! Thank you , Glenn ! -
Nope , My cars travel too much for that , I can always take a car apart and repair any damage due to whatever mishap might occur . Can't do that if the body is glued to the frame . Judges shouldn't be handling cars at the shows in any way , shape , or form ! Wait for it , wait for it , here comes the firestorm !!! Lol !

2012 POST APOCALYPSE/ZOMBIE HUNTER COMMUNITY BUILD
LoneWolf15 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
Hmmmn ! Pretty darn bossy for a kid whose mommy dresses him funny at times ! Lmao ! Here's the deal , I've up my mind what kit I'm going to use . Of coarse , it's a vintage kit and still sealed in the cellophane . Watch the kit purists stroke out on this one ! The first will be done my way as a scout / stealth commando car . The second project will be done your way , cause rust never sleeps ! This way , I can placate Shiny Jim and he won't end up in a round rubber room looking for a quarter in the corner ! Need to start searching for the rust project , next couple of shows should turn up what I'm looking for . It's going to be awhile before I can even think about starting these projects , the 8ft shop table is completely covered with builds in various stages of completion ! Oh by the way , it's Lonewolf 15 not 14 , tell Igor that I don't accept demotions lightly ! Lol ! -
Do You Follow the Instructions?
LoneWolf15 replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I do use the instructions , both as a paint guide / what goes where , and to follow along as I build. Back in the day , the AMT kits could be built pretty much without them . Revell , IMC , etc , not so much as they were a bit more detailed . With the advent of these larger parts count kits , it should be a necessity ! Looked over the new Hudson kit instructions while I was prepping the kit for paint , definite need for instructions here . Once you've built 5 or 6 of a particular kit , then the instructions can be used for nefarious purposes ! Cigar , anyone ? lol! To each their own , I believe that using the instructions makes for a better model . If not for anything else , it helps for parts identification when kit bashing on future builds . -
Lone Wolf Custom Painting will be there ! Kren , you're buying the beer ! Virgil , get up off your now 50 year old behind and make the trip ! Senior citizens need to a change of scenery on a regular basis . You now resemble that remark ! Oh yeah , now that I think of it , so do I !

SO YOU FINISHED YOUR MODEL, NOW WHAT?
LoneWolf15 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My situation is a bit different , mine like to travel ! 7+ times a year , they sit on a vending table for all to see . They require maintenance just like the real McCoy which can be a royal pain at times ! Cleaning and waxing 50 plus cars to prepare for a show will burn up a day before you can blink . Many have been sold with little or no regret , they went to good homes where they can be displayed for others enjoyment . That sits fine with me , I really wouldn't have the room for them otherwise ! More often than not , when not traveling , they sit in their storage cases . This way , they are protected from dust and potential damage . I intend on buying a display case for them eventually ! Problem being , too many other things are at the forefront , moneywise right now. Spending a couple of thousand dollars right now on said case is not a fiscally wise decision ! Lol ! We'll get there ! In the meantime , I'll just keep airbrushing bodies , building for the contests and having fun while I'm at it ! If I remember correctly , that is what this is all about , is it not ? -

All kidding aside , Lone Wolf Custom Painting will be there ! Excellent show , well run , great selection of vendors , well attended ! One draw back .... The club members are ugly to a fault ! Oh well ! , can't have it all ! -
Wet Sand Metallic Colors?
LoneWolf15 replied to lukeeluciano's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The misinformation needs to stop ! Yes ! , you can sand and polish metallics and pearls ! As long as you sand the body overall , you will not have a difference in color or depth going panel to panel . Sanding or rubbing in one spot will , however , leave a very discernible mark in the paint . Example ... A small piece of debris leaves a mark on the roof of your body . Start with 4000 and wet sand the entire roof , lightly , very little pressure , under cold running water . If the spot doesn't disappear , step down to 3200 . Once the debris disappears , work your way back up to 12000 . Do the same to the rest of the body , this will guarantee that your finish will be uniform overall ! Clearing over flaws such as debris or orange peal only make the condition more obvious ! The smoother that the surface to be painted or cleared is guarantees a mirror like finish each and every time . Overall wet sanding of your body before clearing will help you achieve this goal , be it standard , metallic , or pearl paint . -

Ahhhh ! It's possible , just trying to get some things wrapped up as I go along . I just sat there and laughed at myself as I was looking through the thread . Believe me , the wheels were certainly turning ! I have a year , correct ? I'll have to start plowing through the stash to see what is all there . I'll probably get lost or trapped somewhere along the line . I have some other projects to finish up first , as we both know ! Lol ! Count me in , I'll give it a go ! Shiny Jim will have a stroke when he realizes I went over to The Rust Side ! Lmao ! -
