Mike , You need to open it up ! The very tip of the needle is barely visible on mine . I test it first on newspaper to test the pattern , I open it until it spits , then I slowly close it until I'm getting a nice , wide fan . As for the emails , not a problem ! If I charged $5 for every one I answer , I'd never work another day in my life ! Lol !
-
Yup ! , The bottles , decanted paint is already thinned , no need for it . On second thought , as thick as the Testors spray comes out of some of these cans , maybe a little thinner would help the situation ! Lol !
-
Tell him , Mark ! You are perpetually suspended right where you want to be ! Hmmm , I'm in my 6th childhood , that would put you in or around your 7th ?

I guess rust never does sleep , eh , Virgil ! Lol ! If you take notes and follow the method to the letter , it will become second nature . Consistent paint work will follow time and time again ! Greg , I only use the clear on the metallics and pearls , the standard colors polish out to a beautiful gloss all on their own . Can you use it ? , sure , I just don't find a need for it . The single most important thing aside from controlling the paint environment is following the prep procedures to the letter ! The steps that are laid out in the DVD are the guide lines that I follow each and every time I airbrush a body . Virgil , a bit more thinner with the old standard Testor bottles ( 1/4 oz ) is a good thing , they are a bit thicker . By doing so with the 1/2 oz jars , you might have to add a few more mist coats to get the coverage and sheen that you are looking for .

Terry , I use the Sunny Side , convenient for me , the hardware store down the street carries it !
-
Mike , 2 to 1 paint to laquer thinner ratio . Works every single time for me .

You'd think that it is by the way a lot of folks react to the word , Pat ! It's all in knowing how to use them , people have a tendency to complicate situations needlessly ! I learned the laquer trick off a guy I worked with right out of high school . He was a master sergeant in charge of the Europeon Theater's largest motor pool . I learned quite a bit off of him over the years ! Virgil , you are more than welcome ! It's great to see you carry on like a little kid at Chrismas again ! Lmao ! When using standard colors , I shoot directly onto the bare plastic . As long as you are using cheap laquer thinner , there will be no problems ! I do use the metallizer under my metallic and pearl colors to produce a reflection that comes back through to heighten the color and clarity . Remember ! Enamels are the devil's tool .... But only if you allow them to be ! A win , win , situation straight out of the bottle ! It's all in learning how to use the them ! Old dogs , new tricks , right , Virg ?

Stripping paint from a resin?
LoneWolf15 replied to disabled modeler's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Never , Ever , Ever , use brake fluid with resin ! It will turn your body into Spagetti or merely a puddled lump ! -
After !

spraying clear finish
LoneWolf15 replied to marchino's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Marco , It is quite possible that you are spraying too far away from your body . Light mist coats will allow you to build up a smooth finish . Key to this is patience and moving in closer with your airbrush . As for polishing , I use the rubber backed sheets from Micro Mesh . You can purchase these from Micromark or Detail Masters . From the looks of your photo , you would need to start with 3200 and make your way up to 12000 , lightly sanding under cold running water . Be careful with the sharp edges and high points on your body , you can sand through the paint if you are not paying attention ! Once you have smoothed the paint , you can then polish it out with Novus 2 , then apply The Final Treatment's Detail Wax to finish it off . -
Ummmn , It's possible , it's possible ! Lmao ! Glad to see someone was paying attention in class .

Virgil, Word of caution , the primary colors have a tendency to swallow the pearls , making them non existent . What I have found that does work is taking various related pearls and mixing them in with the primary pearl color. Example , Boyds Dusty Rose Pearl mixed with the Pearl X violet , red / blue , and the pink comes out with an unreal color that just dances all over the place . I have found that playing with corresponding pearls that are part of your primary color group choice really works well . When applying the pearls over a base color , let's say black , be sure to apply several coats of clear before applying the pearl coats . Otherwise , you will end up with a completely different color then what you set out to achieve ! While I was very pleased with the color I accidentally " created " , it wasn't what I was looking for in the first place ! Okay for you or me who constantly experiment , not so good for someone who is searching for a specific color on one particular build . Also , be aware that it doesn't take much of a heavy coat to cause the Pearl X to bunch or slump for that matter, they have to be misted on ! Mixing them lightly requires constant motion or swirling of the paint jar during application, this way they are applied evenly . Heavier doses of the Pearl X powder in the clear don't seem to have such critical effect . As for the dehydrator , Mike Mc swears by them , I'd take him on his word any day . Personally , I just don't feel the need to use one . I don't suffer the humidity problem , more importantly , it's one less situation that Mr Murphy can stick his nose into ! I have plenty of painted bodies to play with , the new ones can flashout in their own good time , no rush on my part .

This is what I would do . Lightly wet sand your color coat overall , meaning the entire finish ! This way , not only is it smooth , your entire color coat is uniform If there isn't any debris in the paint or orange peal involved , start with 4000 and work your way up to 12000 under cold running water . Wash it off , blow dry it off , shoot your clear on . Once it has flashed out , repeat the aforementioned steps with the clear coat . Polish it out with Novus 2 , wax it with the Final Detail Treatment wax , using small squares of 100 percent cotton T shirt . This is my way , I'm sure you'll hear from some of the other members on the subject . Wash

What type of paint did you use ?

I can't believe I beat you out of the gate with this one ! Miracles will never cease ! No , I don't have pictures , you'll have to wait til' April to see it . By the way , great start , I'd drop the front a wee bit more , but that's just me and my opinion ! Which , you'll ignore , if I know you ! Lol ! Gonna be pretty , Bud !

Chuck , It was re released awhile back , short limited run , but they did bring it back. I still prefer the Revell version , it has the most authentic rear suspension setup out of all of the prostock / prostreet kits . The only bad part of the kit were the wheels , definitely a candidate for the Lee sister family ! The Rides edition had the pro street frame , problem being , the glass work in the kits were poor , and that's being kind ! Otherwise , a fabulous parts kit that lends itself to a whole bunch of subjects ! On a similar note , the back half of the AMT Pro street Superbee is a perfect fit under any of the Revell Tri- Fives and a whole lot of other kits ! Better yet , the kit has quite a few other quality parts to be scaveged for other builds !

Lol ! You are going to have to go to oldmansmodels. com to view my work for the time being ! The photobucket issue was discussed last night too ! Problem is , so many things to do , not enough time to do it . I suffer right along with most of the individuals who supply a product for the model car industry. We all work full time , ( otherwise , we'd starve to death ) plus run our model business , have family obligations , homes to take care of , vehicles , etc , etc ! Not whining , just stating facts ! I keep telling myself , " Seven more years , Dimbulb , and you can go at the model business full bore " Of coarse , by that time , I'll be blind with shakier hands and won't be able to build anymore ! As for old Sandy Klaus , can't say what's going to happen there ! Two years ago , Mikey MC almost didn't get his , he kept tackleing the mail man just to see what was in the mailbags ! Poor guy had to go on Workmans Comp for a month after Mikey got done with him ! I guess getting tackled 14 days in a row in a front yard in Florida would do anybody in !

Mike , Not too interesting on the two tones subject just yet With only one color laid down thus far , I think you would be bored outta your skull ! Lol ! Send me your email address and I'll throw you some pictures of the new builds , that should keep you occupied for a minute or two . Virgil , the paint jobs look great , I'm glad that you are enjoying yourself ! Kathie and I sat down last night and discussed new paint schemes using PearlX combos along with the new colors that I've been experimenting with . Like you stated , it makes you feel like a kid again ! Ya gotta love it ! We decided to start pulling out the larger bodied car models and start using some of the new paint schemes on them . I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out of the shop after this latest discussion , should be interesting . Kathie hit the shop like a cyclone this morning , cleaning , re- arranging , stocking parts , etc . Good Lord ! I have soooo many parts , it's mind boogling ! Found 20 plus prepped bodies that I had completely forgotten about . Wahoo ! More paint subjects ! This 6th childhood of mine just keeps getting better and better ! Plastic psychosis at it's finest !

Agh , jeeez , Virg , where do I start ? I need to reshoot the hood scoop for the Charger I sent you pictures of . Once I get that squared away , the car is a wrap ! The ' 66 Nova was taken back apart , I wasn't happy with the front windshield so I replaced it . The interior base twisted and I need to replace it. After this is finished , the car gets mailed to Nevada . Today was two - tone day . A ' 53 Ford , ' 55 Chevy , and a Hudson each got their first color . A Revell Nova and '66 Impala are now Butter Yellow . The ' 48 Ford is now Lauren's Lime , really looking forward to this build , by the way ! Sorry , I never took the time to go with photobucket , so no pictures ! It's on the to do list , believe me ! As for a third DVD , there are more than that in my pointed little head . Problem is , the cost is prohibitive , to say the least ! Charlie from ProTech and I have discussed a project as well . I need to line up a support team for that one. , trying to get everybody together is a real pain with my crew !

Today was a good example if that , Virgil ! Jack showed up this morning , he painted his two bodies , and I painted a couple of mine . Hung out together for awhile and then he headed out on a 4 hr trip back home. Jack and several others have stayed for a weekend here and there . Whole lotta shop time , catching up with what everybody has on the bench , going out to dinner , cocktails , and a whole bunch of good natured stone bustin'! Wish we could all do it more often ... But ... ! Kathie loves it ! I get a kick out of watching her and Jack tangle ! Verbal abuse at it's best ! Oh well , back into the booth ! I'm on a roll today and I don't want to stop now . Ummm , paint fumes !

G, I may be cheap but I ain't easy , 2 for the price of none is the going rate ! Lol ! Come on into the 'Burg for a week or so , stay at Hotel Yost and we'll airbrush till we drop ! Enamel users only , Evil Laquer Users need not apply ! Bwahahaha ! Truth be told .... All kind of laquer paints laying around the shop these days . Seems the HO train addiction has remanifested itself , baaaaddd juju when that starts. Lord help me , it's that train jones ..... Again. !
