  1. Anthony, Wash the body off with Top Job and warm water , rinse thoroughly , blow dry it with compressed air and then apply your clear . You would be taking an unnecessary chance by shooting clear over the Novus . Wash it off and go from there . Donn Yost
  2. I'll add my two cents to this ! Gregg did a review of both of my dvds in the magazine and sales picked up dramatically right afterward ! It is well worth your time to do this . On that note.... Gregg , I will be sending you two examples of out new t shirts if you are not in attendance at the NNL East . I would much rather hand them to you at Cheeseburgers in Paradise if you get the drift ! Hopefully , we will see you next week as it is your turn to watch over Dudek and Kren ! They no longer require a babysitter , they need a keeper ! I can get drunk and fall down all by myself , thank you very much ! Donn Yost Lone Wolf Custom Painting
  3. You all are to be commended for putting on a first class event . It's been a long time since Kathie and I attended a show that ran as smoothly as yours . You all defintely did your homework when it came to getting it right the first time , straight out of the gate ! The show room was well lit , club members helped the vendors with set up and tear down , the judging system was first rate , and the builds on the table were top quality . Best part of all .... The club members are a bunch of fun loving stone busters who genuinely like each other . The banter flying back and forth between all of you was hysterical ! We loved every minute of it ! For those of you looking to attend a show that runs smooth as silk and is a fun filled event , this is it ! We are looking forward to next year's event and hope to see a lot more of you in attendance. It was great to meet members from this forum in person and be able to put a name and face together. Thank you all for a great show ! Donn Yost Lone Wolf Custom Painting
  4. Mike , Enamel will develop a crystal like texture after a period of time . You will never see it until it's sprayed through an airbrush The surface of the model will appear to have sand mixed in with the paint. When this occurs , take the body straight to the dipping tank , you will never be able to sand it smooth. The enamels , as a rule , have a nice long shelf life . You can get around the crystal problem by simply straining the paint before shooting if you are aware of the paints age . I always encourage buying paint from a hobby shop with a faster turnover , it's a good way to avoid the problem entirely. As for the age old battle , I prefer the enamels any day , if not for any other reason......It allows me to do battle with Mikey Mc on occasion ! Donn Yost Lone Wolf Custom Painting
  5. Tom , Big no no ! Never put laquer over enamel . 9 times out of 10 , it will eat the enamel . Now , you can put enamel over laquer , just not the other way around . I'd mix up some Pearl X in some Testors clear and go over your existing color with that. Donn Yost
  6. That's just great ..... All of you Ohio guys should be arrested upon arrival for creating an atmosphere that leads to drinking copacious amounts of alcohol. You never see me in that condition ! Besides , You & Fo missed last year ! It's your turn to buy ! The Old Man
  7. Lone Wolf Custom Painting will be there . Kathie and I will be there early Friday afternoon . If we don't catch you in Cheese Burgers in Paradise on Friday , stop and see us in the vending room and say Hi ! on Saturday . Donn Yost
  8. Steve , Use the entire ' Maz front suspension . You might have to do a little adjustment on the front axle , width wise , then again , maybe not ! I've used it on quite a few diffrent cars for the street gasser look and it's always worked out well for me . Donn Yost
  9. Val ,

Go to my website at oldmansmodel.com and watch the instructional dvd clip on airbrushing . I think it will answer alot of your questions. I use a Paache H series single action with the # 5 head and needle .

  10. You can remove the decals with a folded over piece of scotch tape. Finish polishing out the car up to 12000 under cold running water . You do not have to rub hard with the polishing cloth , stay away from your high spots and edges ! . After this is completed , rub the body out with Novus 2 and follow it up with The Detail Wax .Again ! You do not have to rub hard , the shine will eventually come through . It will look like a pink mirror when you are finished ! Bare Metal foil your trim. Lightly go back over the car with your wax again to remove any finger prints . If there is any glue residue left from the foiling , a little bit of Novus 2 will take it right off . Now you can apply your decals ! Trick to all of this is patience , just take your time ! Everybody has to learn about this sometime , never be afraid to ask questions . Modeling is a consistent and ongoing education ! If all else fails on this project , you learned a valuable lesson from this experience . Lady Trial n Error is a cruel mistress , thats why the older guys should always help out ! I've slept with her for too many years not to know this ! Good Luck ! Donn Yost Lone Wolf Custom Painting
  11. Rick , Here are the steps ..... After the car has been painted and has flashed out , then it can be wet sanded and polished out with Novus 2 . Next , you apply your bare metal foil . After you finish the foiling , you are going to have fingerprints , these are easily waxed out . Once you have the body looking like a mirror , you can now apply your decals. To maintain the model's appearance afterward , you can either use The Detail Wax or Novus 1. Apply either of the two with small squares of soft 100% cotton t shirt . The t shirt squares are what you should be using when doing your initial polishing out after your wet sanding has been completed . This will help you avoid scratching the freshly polished paint surface. Hope this helps ! Donn Yost
  12. Rick , The Final Detail Wax will not hurt your decals as long as they have been applied properly . As for the ' Cuda emblems , Check with Keith Marks decals and see if he makes the decals for this particular car . I sand off the badge emblems and use Keith's decals in their place . It makes a big diffrence . Donn Yost
  13. Brian,

    Go to oldmansmodels.com , take a look around . I think you'll find exactly what you're looking for , it's even better than a book !

  14. Dan, Kathie and I will see you there ! We are doing the IPMS Regionals on Friday and Saturday in Pgh . , then packing it up and heading your way Saturday night . Lone Wolf Custom Painting will be there bright eyed and bushy tailed on Sunday morning ! Yeah , Right !
  15. It could also provide you with a place to lay your head when the Geritol level gets low and you need to take a nap !
  16. Rob, Be sure to lay a piece of masking tape on the outside of the glass , then just lay a couple of mist coats of flat black down on the inside of the glass , followed with a couple of wet ones. Let it dry , pull the masking tape , a little polish for the outside of the glass and you are good to go !
  17. What ? And spoil the fun ?
  18. Yes , Jesse , there are ! They are called mental institutions !
  19. The input is never a problem , just glad to be able to help out ! If you go with the Testors clear ..... Be careful how heavy it goes on the silver , it might want to go golden in color for you . It will still match the car but ..... Another little trick .. Pick up some of Jaquards Pearl X at Michaels . Take the silvermetal flake and mix it with your clear , have another jar mixed with plain clear . Remember ! A little Pearl X powder goes a long way , careful how much you mix into the clear ! Coat over the entire car with every other coat being the plain clear , then the silvered , back and forth between the two . It will blend your two colors together and give the black a high gloss with that extra pop . Be sure to use quick mist coats , be patient , it will build up to a superior gloss and depth of color . When it's finished it will dance under the light and change color as you walk around it .
  20. Enamels cut with hardware store variety laquer thinner drys quick , hard , and tight with no loss of detail . It will not harm the plastic . Standard colors can be shot directly onto the plastic without using primer as long as the body is sanded up to 12000 under cold running water. Testors aluminum metallizer can be used under Testors metallics or pearls to provide a good reflective quality in place of primer. Testors clear top coat can be cut with cheap laquer thinner as well and lays down beautifully . I use a 2 to 1 paint to thinner ratio when mixing , 2 parts paint to 1 part thinner .
  21. Gotta watch what you wish for .... Your eyes might not be able to handle it ! We were at a show in PA. about 7 years ago , a modeler arrived late and was scrambling to get his entries down on the table . Being that everyone had pretty much seen all there was to see on the tables , we all drifted over to take a look at what he was putting down . The first comment From the front of the crowd was 'Oh My God " The tone of the exclamation did not bode well for what was to be seen ! After the initial crowd died down , I made my way up to the table . There sat a Miss Deal funny car done completely in chrome , and I mean everything , except the tires ! What made it worse .... It was a glue bomb ! The builder proudly asked me what I thought of his creation . Just my luck , Right ? All I could come up with was " It surely has a shine to it " Everyone standing behind the builder immediately went into silent convulsions of laughter . I just did'nt know what else to say ! Every show that I went to for the next year or so , I'd be looking at the cars on the table , and some fool would whisper , " They sure do have a shine to them " I'd look up and there would be 10 or 12 of the regulars , laughing their behinds off . I hate car modelers !
  22. Funny that this topic came up , I was thinking about this today while I was staging a couple of builds . I don't know if it's my imagination or not , but it seems that alot of the newer Revell releases have addressed this issue to some degree . There seems to be more thought as to how the bumpers and other parts are attached to the trees . When they are trimmed off the sprues , the cut marks are not in such glaring places as the ends or top of the bumpers. Most are at the bottom where they can be touched up and hidden , so to speak . Me , I would'nt mind seeing a chrome less kit . However , two points hold me back from voting yes on the issue . # 1 , I don't think it would be in the best interests of the hobby at all . Most guys and gals do not want to be messing with Alclad or any other of the chrome paints , trying to produce the perfect chrome finish . I believe we'd lose quite a few car modelers if this were to happen. We cannot afford that ! # 2 If I'm going to pay as much as I do for a kit these days , it is up to the manufacturer to get it right in the first place . I have seen improvement over the last couple of years but there is still a whole lot of room for even more ! Donn Yost
  23. For me , 49 years ! My , my how the time flies when you're having fun !
  24. Kris , This is perfect timing ! Just used the two that I bought off of you up at New Stanton along with the SuperCoils on my last two builds . Impressed beyond belief with the quality and realistic appearance of your product ! I'll pick up more in April from you when we are in Jersey , save some for me ! Donn Yost
  25. That is true ! Humidity down your way is a modelers nightmare . Just thought I'd toss the proverbial bait in the water to see if you'd hit it ! As for year round .... Me too ! This has been an unusually cold one up here , temps in the airbrush shop were a mite too low for too many days in a row So , being fed up with the situation , I purchased a heater for the shop ! Picks the temp up 15 degrees in less than 10 minutes , which , is now a perfect 68 degrees .
