  2. Lone Wolf Custom Painting will be there ! Ummmm ! Cheeseburgers & Captain Morgan !
  3. Awww ! , Zimm , Why'd ya have to go there ! Now I'm getting flash backs !
  4. Z , Too funny ! , too tragic ! , but , alas, too true ! I say yes , for the same reason Zimm stated. However , after 4 or 5 years , of showing the same car without winning .... Either step on it , or give it to the dog to use as a chew toy ! I'm sick of looking at it on the tables ! Build another one , this one just is'nt going to make the grade !
  5. Contact Steve at SNC Hobbies in the UK and see if he carries Detail Masters polishing kits. From the looks of it , you are going to have to start out with 3200 grit and work your way up to 12000, wet sanding under cold water. Polish it out with Novus 2 and follow it up with The Final Detail Wax.
  6. Yup ! His car is still black. Yours is probably still white from the salt ? We are supposed to get another 6 in. by Monday. I've used the 4 wheel drive more in the past week then I have the last 4 years !At least the temps have gone up , that helps to get it off the roads quicker. When they send out the trucks , of coarse !
  7. Lone Wolf Custom Painting will be there !
  8. Gotta go with Andy on this one ! Paache H series , using the # 5 head and needle will cover you from A to Z . Dual actions are great , I love them ! However , they are overkill unless you plan on doing weathering, murals , or fine detail painting. The Paache single action is easy to use , clean , and a breeze to maintain , also very cost effective !
  9. Sean , Check out Larry Davis' books on drag racing . I believe his " Quarter Mile Muscle " has more than a few pictures of the Sox & Martin cars in it , If you are into drag racing , all three books are fabulous ! Check out Slixx or Barnes & Noble , they carry them .
  10. Modest too ! Don't forget the flowered shirts and sun glasses ! I would envy the both of you right now , Harry ! Only problem is .... Another 12 to 15 inches are on the way . I'll take Ol' Sleek , the Silverado, with her three position automatic 4 wheel drive , Thank you very much !
  11. Nice ! Beautiful car ! At least you won't have to worry about your hair being blown in your eyes when you crack it open with the top down ! Now , bugs , dat might be a problem . Baby wipes will help keep them off your forehead . For those that don't know ..... Greg's forehead is elongated , it goes from his eyebrows to the nape of his neck ! Enough stone bustin' ! Great choice , I'm thrilled for you ! Ps . Since when were'nt you off the deep end ? I must have missed something somewhere along the line ! xooxoxooxooxooxooxooxo The Old Man
  12. Eric , Polishing kits are available from Model Empire out of Wisconsin , modelempire.com , or detailmasters.com. The Deatil Masters kit starts at 3200 grit and goes to 12000 . The LMG kit from Model Empire starts at 1800 grit and goes to 120000. Donn Yost Donn Yost
  13. George, They are not the same ! Donn Yost
  14. Colby , You can wet sand all the way up to 12000 and the clear will stick without a problem. The smoother the painted surface , the better the clear will lay down for you. Donn Yost
  15. Joe, Testors Competition Orange or Boyd's Sunburst are excellent out of the bottle. I use a 2 :1 ratio for my mix . Two parts paint to one part cheap laquer thinner, using mist coats.Paint drys quick , tight , with no loss of detail. Airbrush is the only way to fly if you are looking for a consistent , well done paint job .
  16. I think you need to go to the website and look again ! None of my detail is lost , I can still put a razor thin line of baremetal foil down anywhere on a model. If the detail had been lost , the chrome would have a thick unnatural appearance to it , mine does'nt ! Check the drip edges above the doors on the Camaros , Cudas , Firebirds , etc . Very thin pieces. You can't lay bare metal foil on them if the detail has been buried in clear . As for the shine , I generally build street machines , drag cars , street rods , etc . How deep the reflection goes is up to me . Anyone viewing my cars , up close and personal , will tell you that they are far from having a " toylike " appearance. As to my methods , and whether , they work , read my guestbook and view comments section . I'll let my satified customers do my talking for me . Hope to see you at the show tables ! 17. Me , David , Me! This goes along with the adage..... Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, someone slaps porkchop panties on you and shoves you in the shark tank ! Besides , if the Griz is wearing panties , I think I could take him , the big sissy ! Putting a scratch in the paint work of one of Harry's Poccher builds would lead to very dire consequences for the offender. I'd rather tackle the bear in the phone booth , thank you very much ! When it comes to the show tables , the Georgia Satellites said it best...... "Don't hand me no lines and keep your hands to yourself " Donn Yost
  18. Being that my name was the first to get dragged into this ..... Anyone that has viewed the work of Jeff Sauber , Clay Kemp , Ted Lear , John Teresi ,Bill Bergen, etc ,up close and personal , will quickly come to the conclusion that their models are works of art , not toys ! Hundreds of hours are spent creating these pieces. The money spent , I won't even mention , that is their business ! One would not walk into a fine arts gallery and ask to fondle the Rembrandts or Van Goghs , now would they ? It is the same at a model car show , hands off . These models were put on display to be viewed and judged as they sit on the tables , nothing more ! Contestant did'nt use a display or mirror to get the frame up for the judges to view ? Oh Well !, more power and points to the individuals that did . Last year , I had a hood chipped ,a scoop knocked off , a rear view mirror and part of a roll bar knocked off with a flashlight . I spent an hour reattaching the frame of my ' 40 Ford sedan , plus three side mirrors. This all occured at the Nationals in Columbus. Each of the cars had a Do Not Touch check in the proper box. For some ,this is a power trip , they figure the rules don't apply because they're judges. While I do not put myself in the same category as a builder like the aforementioned gentlemen , I do build some very nice models. They are mine , and I work very hard on them . They are built to be taken back apart if need be, and are handled by myself in such a manor. When transporting show cars , accidents do occur! I can take the model apart , repair it and put it back together without any further damage to the body, frame , or interior. All the more reason for someone else to not be touching them ! One of these days , someone is going to screw up royal with the wrong individual's model. They are going to be dragged out into the parking lot and beaten silly. Me , I'll just stand there and watch as I laugh myself silly ! You got what you deserved ! Inherent risk only exists with racing the 1:1 cars. Model cars should be safe, just sitting on the table looking pretty for everyone to view and admire. For those that think this is overboard , so be it . As far as I'm concerned..... I'd rather climb into a phone booth with a full grown grizzly , wearing pork chop panties then mess with one of Harry's Pocher kits. I believe it would be far less painful ! 19. Tim, Just to clarify... I use Testors Top Clear Coat , not the high gloss.I've only been back into the cars for nine years so I can't say what went on beforehand with Testors products. I have cars that I shot with the Testors clear from back then and the finish is still pristine on them . By cutting the clear with cheap laquer thinner, your finish drys quick , hard and tight. As for the use of Future as a clear , I have my doubts as time rolls on . Eventually , I feel it would start to yellow and crack as it does on floors that it's applied to . This would be a disaster for me . I don't have the time to go back and reclear should the aforementioned conditions appear. I do know that Testors clear cut with cheap laquer thinner does an outstanding job for me . I build very little if any factory stock these days .However , I do know the diffrence between the desired types of shine . Polishing Testors enamels out and foregoing the clear , will give you a beautiful factory shine every time . For me , enamels have always been a win - win situation . You are using a product that was designed for the hobby , therefore , no worries about it affecting the plastic . You achieve a shine simply by applying the paint and are able to further advance that richness of depth and color by coating it with clear. As always , just one man's opinion ! 20. Hey , ! Woodsy !, Speaking of which... I need a vendor form from your club for The East , we already reserved our room at the "Paradise". Be sure to put your parts list in early this year .Remember ! , I am a year older now , Halfheimers is slowly creeping in , ya know ? Aside from paying for the dvds , when they shake my hand , are tips involved with this ? Take care , Buddy ! The Old Man
  21. Mike , The cheap laquer thinner will have it drying in no time flat .Using the laquer as your cutter removes all the voodoo and old wives tales associated with enamels ! It helps the paint dry quick , pull tight , with no loss of detail, either . I don't believe you'll need the dehydrator , I've never used one in my life . As I always advise the guys in the Deep South and Far North ..... Have bodies prepped and ready to go when your paint windows are at their best ! 68 to 72 degree temperatures with low humidity are ideal conditions for airbrushing. When temps are'nt ideal or the humidity is high , prep your kits for paint to stay out ahead . As much as you and I have bantered back and forth about paint , I think you'll learn to love the enamels too ! You start with a gloss base, enhancing the depth of color and richness with your clear coats. As long as you are controlling your paint environment , there is little need for alot of sanding on the finish. When all is said and done , you have a finish that looks as though you could dive into it ! It is a win - win situation ! Donn
  22. Rick, Cost of the airbrush dvd and the two disc set on tips and tricks sold together including shipping is $66.40 Donn Yost
  23. I do ! I do ! , Well ? what did I win ? Actually , Jeff , I've been painting like there is no tomorrow . The building is off to the side for a little while , I want to get 16 bodies finished for NNL East all done in my custom colors . Don't ask me why , but evrything is flashing out so quick in the shop . I'm airbrushing with enamel color and have been able to apply the paintand the clear all within 24hrs , plus polishing out . At this rate , I managed 6 bodies since Sunday ! As happy as I am about this , I'm waiting for Murphy to drop the piano on me , I know he's out there ! So , Mr Sauber ,any reindeer poop in the stocking this year ? The Old Man
  24. Oh be still my beating heart ! You , Mike ? Want to try enamels now ? Dont let Harry hear this , The Tinman will have a stroke ! The new dvds are done just like the first one , only diffrence , 4 hrs of info this time ! These are geared toward the new guys and those that want to step up their game , contest wise ! Sorry , Mister Sauber ! No dvds for you ! All I'm trying to do here is help out by shortening the learning curve to help modelers save time and money and relieve alot of the frustration that comes with it. It pleases me to no end that ya'll are enjoying them , plus learning at the same time. This is the most important thing. it is what I set out to do in the first place! I figured that after all the years that I've had to sleep with Lady Trial n Error , albeit not me , somebody should benefit from said situation ! Thanks for the kind words , Guys ! The Old Man
  25. Billy , Only after you apply the paint ! What saved me , a buddy suggested using a water based black wash to highlight the door seams. I questioned whether it would come off, the answer was , Yes !When I went to wipe it off , it did'nt come off all the way , it streaked. So , into the brake fluid it went . Second round action involved sanding out the dimple and using a rapiodliner pen for the seams which works like a dream. If you boo boo , it comes right off with a little bit of water. As usual , lessons learned ! The Old Man
