Issue 137 complaint
LoneWolf15 replied to 58 Impala's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ah ! Ah ! Ah !, Nobody's getting shredded here , Young Stud ! Lesson to be learned from this . Each and every one of us , regardless of what we model , can learn from a completely foriegn subject . If all of us took a lesson from the way that Bill Borgen models , we'd all be top rate ! Too often , we all miss the big picture ( Modeling skills ) because we don't like a particular subject . It is all about modeling and developing our skills rather than the subject matter ! That , is the only point that I was trying to put across in my first post . Impala is entitled to his opinion , as are all of us . As for the Big Kahuna , he's around . He is busier then a one legged man in a butt kickin' contest ! He has bigger fish to fry then babysitting this lunatic asylum ! Later , Little Brother ! The Old Man -

Billy , Lyle 's correct . You can burn out building the same thing over and over again . Build a slammer of a drag car or a street machine . Something that simple , more often than not , will get the juice flowing for you again . As for you , Lyle , I'm shocked , dismayed , overwhelmed , at your last piece of advice ...... Actually , Im lovin' it ! The Old Man -
Who you kiddin' , you've got socks older than the kid's parents ! Welcome to the Monkey House , Youngster ! I know you'll like it ! The Old Man

Impala, Normally I'd agree with you here , however , this was a truly exquisite piece that has to be seen in person for it to be appreciated .It is a beautiful piece of modeling artwork ! Billy is probably one of the finest weather / build modelers out there . Anything and everything that he builds is a class A type jewel , mostly early trucks . Hey !, It rolls on wheels , right ? Bills only fault , he hangs out with a crazy guy by the name of Kren ! The Old Man -
Aww Kid ! Now ya did it ! You mentioned the H word , the E word , and the L word all in the same sentence ! Next thing ya know , brimstone , fire , smoke , all that stuff is going be flyin' around ! The Tinman is going to come down from the tree house in Netherwood and you're going to get smited ! Of coarse , that all depends on how much Geritol is in the fuel tank ! Hey ! , I'll be tossing a pm your way over the weekend , need some info from ya ! Now be vewy , vewy quiet , I think I heard the Tinman creakin' about ! The Old Man

Laquers ? Did you say laquers ? The Old Goat would stroke out ! Hey Kid ! , that's why I put it out on the market . It can and will help anybody. Follow the steps , but most importantly , Be patient ! That's why I always recommend having several going at once , and having several prepped and ready for paint when the mood hits . Practice , practice , and more practice , Bri . Become a student of the game ! You don't think I got all this gray hair from my ex-wives , did ya ? It's called experience ! I figured that all you youngsters should benefit from my pain , suffering , and expense. Why should I make you go through what I did ? Keep rolling with it , Little Bro , The Old Man 's always here for ya ! Thanks for the Kudos from everyone !, Much appreciated ! Lone Wolf

Doc, Long story short .... A well known builder from CA. and I started building together for other people 's collections . He took my cars to shows on the West Coast , I showed his on the East Coast . We did this for years . He had some health issues . Starting with a hip replacement , one thing lead to another with the medication and he ended up having a breakdown. It was a great friendship and an excellent partnership until all of this went down . He has 6 show cars of mine that were supposed to have been mailed back to me last April. I have 'nt heard from him since. The cars are a minor thing , I just hope he is doing ok. He has'nt returned any of my calls nor responded to any of my emails . None of the boys from CA. have seen hide nor hair of him at the West Coast shows either . I miss him alot , he was a great guy to talk models with , for that matter , just about anything ! I'd like to think that he got everything straightened out , least ways , I hope so The Old Man

Okay , Jeff, From what I can see , the adjustment for your spray is in the handle. By loosening the back nut in the handle, it allows you to adjust the position of your needle. Loosen the nut by turning it counter clockwise Gently push the needle almost to the top of the cone where it is barely touching it . Tighten the nut and then check the back stroke of the needle as you pull back on your trigger . You are going to have to play with this adjustment a bit until you get a nice smooth flowing pattern coming out of the gun. Once you are satified with the needle adjustment , be sure to measure it on the backside so you can put it back into place after you reassemble it after cleaning . Hope this helps. The Old Man

Testors Sublime green for a base , Boyd's Lime Green pearl over top of it . Then clear. The color walks and does a bit of a flip - flop at the same time as you walk around it . You catch various shades of green and the gold pearl as you look at it . It is subtle , but it really catches the eye ! You need to put the Lime Pearl on in light coats so you don't crush the Sublime green underneath ! Throw them rattle cans away ! Go for the airbrush ! It is so much easier and you can do so much more , colorwise ! That, however , is just one old goat's opinion ! The Old Man

Mike , That's a beautiful start ! Now , to answer a question with a question . Do you use Testors enamels ? The Old Man

HOW TO PREP A DIECAST BODY FOR PAINT!
LoneWolf15 replied to chevelle69's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Check with Slixx .com for the new headlight / grill decals . I know they carry a large sheet of headlights and grill assemblies for funny cars . As for your body, soak it in brake fluid for a couple of days, it will remove all the paint and decals and take it right down to bare metal. The Old Man -

Gregg , Word has it , that in his day , Rich had a temper , as in bad ! One of his buddy's nicknamed Rich "Pure Hell " , hence the name of the car ! It appears from the picture that he still has that gleam in his eye . Old drag racers never die..... Dey just go faster ! Glad to see you out and about and having fun ! The Old Man

Zack, Testors clear coat or high gloss clearcoat will do the trick. Brush it on the ring , set the lens in place, and set it off to the side to dry . The Old Man

Dale & Dan, Off on the wrong foot here , I love dual action , you are correct , a lot more control ! For weathering , it cannot be beat. However , this is a youngster just starting out . On a Paache single action , there is less mess , clean up wise. It is far easier to learn how to use, fewer do's and don'ts, and less mechanical that can go wrong or confuse . I suggested the single action to allow Zack to get his " feet wet " per say.The H series comes in a kit with everything that a novice needs to start out with , for a fair price . As always , I'm just one man with an opinion , simply stating from past experience . The Old Man

Zack Always remember this , you get what you pay for ! This applies to anything in life . If it's cheap , it is not going to last or really do the job as well as a good piece of equipment. For the cost of roughly 3 kits , you can have yourself a Paache H series single action airbrush. It is not the Cadillac of airbrushes, however , it will last you for many years when properly maintained. Given your age , with many years of modeling ahead of you , learn to put your money into your equipment first. It is far better to have good quality tools at your disposal and 4 kits, then 24 kits and garbage equipment that just won't get the job done right . Each and every kit that you build deserves the best that you have to offer , both skill wise and equipment . Good tools make the job easier and less frustrating. It also makes the finished product much more pleasing to the eye ! First and foremost , it is much more fun to build this way ! Yourself and Jeff are at a perfect age . Both of you are old enough to work and earn money to keep yourselves going hobby wise. You are smart and humble enough to ask questions , eager to learn about the hobby. Most importantly , you are asking them in the right place . This forum has more knowledge in it when it comes to modeling than anywhere else on the planet . Here is a trick that I learned when I was about your age , You and Jeff should both put it to use. Before Christmas or birthdays , inform Mom and Dad exactly what you want , be exact about it ! Provide all the important information , cost , where it can be purchased , etc. You can't go wrong with this ! I want to see you and Jeff thrive in the hobby , we need all the youngsters we can get .
