  1. I used to display my builds in a glass case I purchased from Ikea it was really nice but it wasnt air tight so dust would settle on my models and before too long they were looking old. so now i just keep them in tuperware type containers untill its time to show em at a show then I place em on mirrored turntables.
  2. Youre jammin with this build bro keep up the good work. Heres a small piece of photo advice. 1. to keep the glare down make sure your light source is behind you (dont shoot in front of a window with the sun light comming through, or to the side of your work. 2. If you move back from the model a tad bit the picture will come out sharper.
  3. Welcome aboard and stay outta those bushes , looking forward to seeing your builds
  4. I know exactly what you went thru Jim as I had a allergy triggered sneeze attack right before I made this reply, 20 sneezes in a row is no fun when tryin to have fun reading a funny comment. Thx for the compliments fellas and I think you owe Jim and I a box of Kleenex Wayne
  5. 3.5-5lbs wow! man Dave I want to grow up to be you! LOL love the calipers keep up the excellent work.
  6. Hey Rodney thx and glad you enjoy it.
  7. Hey fellas heres a quick update I cut the doors off the cab and added the sleeper passage to the back of the cab. Once the doors were off I added a small strip of styrene to close up the gap and make em air tight again enjoy.....
  8. Thx fellas for those great compliments
  9. Well i decieded i was gonna go ahead and add another steer axel to the project so while im waitin on supplys I figured I'd try to get the wrecker body done. I added side pieces to build up the sides and make it look a lil closer to the truck I was modeling it after. In the process I fixed any pits or dents or just bad sctrach building LOL! Its in primer now but I still have few small things to do before I can put it on the done list. here I have added the side pieces and putty to fill any gaps.... I was also able to complete the compartment just forward of the wheel wells... In primer so i can see where I need to work next..... Please stay tuned for more to come.
  10. "keep moving forward" Walt Disney 1947 I like seeing you figure this one out Jim and if you do as ol Walt says you find yourself at the end of this complicated build so "Keep moving forward"
  11. As I read every comment in this thread the only thing that stood out to me were the words of the very first paragraph. Do you think I was born a good builder? Or that I was always able to buy after market parts? Its true that I like to go overboard if thats what you want to call it. But Ive been building for 38 years and Ive built a ton of gluebombs, I used to make custom parts from cardboard or card stock, and there was a time when I couldnt afford to buy the glue to build my models (ever try building a model with Elmers). But i perserverd now im a lil older , my skills have become a little better and my pocket is a little deeper these days. So now I build to challange myself every build has to be better than the next and yes sometimes that means spending a few bucks to get my final results. But im a builder just like you, I get an idea and want to bring it to life! Truely I build for me, but I like to share with others. And alot of time i dont even spend money on parts, I have traded with some great guys from this fourm, Ive had guys donate parts to my builds and ultimately like alot of other guys my greatest resource is my parts box. I say all this because i want you to know YOU are not limited, And YOU like me can build whatever YOU want! I build to hopefully inspire others and I build by the moto "Dont worry about what everyone eles is building.......Just build to the best of your ability and make the crowd say WOW!"
  12. latest update fellas http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=34600&st=40

  19. Dang Jim! Youre pretty good the lenght is 19 inches as it sits right now, but im thinking seriously about adding a second steer axel(pictured below) which would give it 4 steer wheels and make it a little longer. thx for asking bro.
  20. John this thing is sweet I love the body lines, cant wait to see it in person. Keep up the OUTSTANDING work!
  21. Excellent Job Ed and the paint is beautiful, I would have never known this was a screw chassis if you didnt mention it.
  22. Just wanted to show you this 50% mockup enjoy.............
  23. Thx Jim, Matt & Davin , You know I never thought of doin a semi either bec ause i didnt think I could do any good detailing to it but im learning now that I cant be more technical with this build than just doing cars. I guess its always good to broaden our scope of building
  24. Hey fellas Im back with another installment of the MAD MODELLER!!!! LOL! anyway as you know Ive been working on the rear of the wrecker I opened up all the storage compartments and lined them with coragated steele and I made some doors I just have to figure out the best way to go about hinging em. And I added another 6 scale inches to the overall length of the truck body which means i have to add another 6scale inches to the chassis (thats what happens boys and girls when you dont do your math homework) well I hope you enjoy the photos.... heres one of the kit compartment doors and the doors i made on the second pic... here i cut all the compartment doors out.... as you can see the doors are raised so all had to be smoothed out or sanded down.... here I started to add the coragated steele to the boxes And heres a mockup for ya enjoy......
