I must say john Is a great builder and A outstanding person. I have met a new friend as well as a brother. The show was great John went home with two awards. I may not have recieved an award for my builds but i was rewarded with the company of a honest hearted man whom my family also enjoyed being with. Gregg was also very pleasent to be with and talk to. And i felt like I was privalaged to be in the presents of yet another great modeler and companion. Looking forward to seeing you in Hawaii Gregg and thx for making this an enjoyable event. Oh and yes gregg did get plenty of photos of the builds that John and I brought...... -

Hey i think gibson motors are great and anyone who says there not probably hasnt really taken the time to build one correctly. Your motor looks to me to be a 815 mountain motor thats a huge mill once you get it set in right it'll look right for you. I use them all the time and I have a few unbuilt ones just waitin for me to pull em out. Heres the last two i built. Judge for your self. Romell

I could be wrong but this one appears to be real. its a couple of the body lines that give it away that wouldnt appear on a model.

Scratchbuilding vs. Kitbashing
Romell R replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a half brother. And he and I used to get model vans back in the late 70's early 80's. Custom vans were the in thing back then My father even had a 6 wheel custom chevy. Anyway my brother and I used to compete to see who could make the best custom van (we were between 8-10 at the time) I would always want to do more than just the box stock kit I would get thick construction paper and make the cabnets and furiture for the van. I say that to state my scratch building started way back as a young boy. The need to do what was not already done. And I have only taken what I have been doing all my life and improved on it. To say scratch building is a superior skill is a bit grandiose, but i will say that it is a skill, and as with all skills it takes time to master it. Here I am some thirty plus years later and I am just getting into my grove so to speak and feeling really comfortable with my "gift". and weather we are scratch building or kit bashing we must realize that we (modlers) are a special people cause not anyone pick up a box of plastic and turn it into a true work of art. Wow! Im really enjoying your build! makes me want to go out and get me a bottle of the receipe LOL! the detail is amazing cant wait to see where it goes

Scratchbuilding vs. Kitbashing
Romell R replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is correct up to the point of using resin or photoetched parts which wouldnt be "kitbashing" or Scratch building" it would actually be "out sourcing" which now turns your model into a "multi-media" build which has become more and more prominent with the availability of parts via the internet and LHS. I myself am a Multi-media builder as I do a bit of all of it. multi media build "Scratch built" exhaust from headers back, "outsourced" motor (Ross Gibson) "Kit bashed" frame and parts of chassis. suspension "scratch built", seats and steering wheel "outsourced" and lots of other goodies. Lets not kid ourselves here the only true scratch builder is Jehovah God The Almighty, the rest of us are using materials made by someone eles -
Very nice project and described very well although this is the first time ive heard the term scratch"bashing" I think usually (for varification purposes) the term is "kitbashing" meaning to take parts from different kits then theres "scratch building" meaning to build from raw or sourced materials. but hey it worked in your case keep up the good work.
