That McLaren looks great, Paul. I finished my first ever set of p/e belts. Then I installed them on the roll bar and seat. I'm going to wait until I make some bolt heads for the anchor points before I install the roll bar. I have a question for the more experienced out there. How do I get the belts to lay down like real ones??? I was thinking of using a bit of white glue on the back of them and holding them down until the glue sets.

The Flying Lizard Porsche looks fantastic, Arnold....Now go find those mirrors. Been spending time at the bodyshop. fill, sand, prime...repeat as neccessary.. Though the two biggest pieces are done up in white.

Pro Stock chassic`s from the late 60`s to 80`s?
2whl replied to John Pol's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
The very first ProStock race was at the 1970 Winternationals, won by Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins fom Wikipedia NHRA changed the 1972 rules to allow drivers with a small block wedge engine to run a lighter car. Jenkins used a small block-based 331 cu in (5.42 l) in a Chevrolet Vega fitted in the division's first tube chassis, which debuted at the 1972 Winternationals. -
I got more stuff on the engine.

The spark plug leads were on a rubber like sprue. I was hesitant about it at first because of the strange bends it had, but after bundling it up and getting it to the spark plugs, I'm OK with it.

Question for the Motorcycle Builders
2whl replied to Scuderia's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've never seen a kit of the street bike. The only Repsol's I know of are the actual race bikes. Aoshima does have a completed 1/12th bike though it is a lttle toy-like. http://www.hlj.com/product/AOS08845/Aut .....from a dedicated motorcycle rider/builder/owner. -
Sweet Mazda, Oscar. If you're like me, you'll have a piece that looks good, so you'll go with it, take a pic, and post it up. Then while looking at your post in the monitor, you'll see all kinds of bad in it. That's what happened with the seat. I didn't like the sanding scuff marks on the front. So I prepped it better and shot the rear half in semi-black. Then I masked that off and shot the front in Tamiya dark grey acrylic. Much happier now. Since the chassis is coming along nicely, it's time to resume work on the engine. The engine tin work was in this semi-transparent plastic, but I didn't like the look, so I sprayed it Tamiya AS-15 Tan. Also got the distributor superglued into place

Thanks Oscar and Lawrence. Along with painting all of the front suspension pieces, the rear stuff was done at the same time. So it got assembled.
-
Been working on the front suspension. Since the sponsor decals say it has Bilstein shocks, and the Bilsteins I had back in the day were yellow, I took the liberty of painting the shocks yellow. I added the Tamiya jar to get a sense of the size.

1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
2whl replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Chris, I'm going to have to ask you to stop posting the reference pictures of the real car and trying to tell us it's a model. LOL -
From the pic, that paint is already shiny. If you polish it, it will be blinding !! I'm going to try p/e belts for the first time on this kit. I got the first couple of steps done.
-
Thanks Paul I did get the basic engine and transmission pieces together also.
-
I assembled all of the chassis pieces together and painted them grey. It's not the color the instructions call out, but I like the way details in the interior stand out with that color. The instructions called for white.

I'll be joining in on this CBP. Two other forums I frequent are doing a 911 build in honor of the 50th anniversary of the 911. So what I'm doing already fits in with this CBP. A pic of the box art and contents. I decided to do a chassis stand/jig for possible display purposes.

Hey, John, good talking with you to-nite. I was wondering when you would start this. When I picked up that magazine at the newstand, the first thing I thought was that you would dig it. Great start. -
I saw this at the DSC and the detailing on it is AWESOME !!!

I promised someone I would take them to SoCal NNL tomorrow, or I would have. Next time

Desert Scale Classic - April 20th, 2013 in Phoenix, AZ
2whl replied to Modelbuilder Mark's topic in Contests and Shows
As a firstimer to DSC, I have to say that these guys put on a great event. Everyone there, from staff to entrants, made me feel right at home. I had such a good time, I already have plans to go next year. Hopefully the Arizona boys aren't too mad at us for hauling so much hardware back to Cali. -
How Far Would You Travel To A Show?
2whl replied to Bill Eh?'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll be driving 436 miles to get to the Desert Scale Classic in less than a week.
