AMAZING TALENT ON THIS FORUM
Dr. Cranky replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here are my 5 cents worth. I participate in a couple of forums, and regardless of how old or how experienced the builders are there are usually enough generous and friendly people around to make it worth it. I think if you are going to belong to a forum, you should particiapte. Forums are about the give and take, and it's a great way to make your own learning curve accelerate. In my own experience (before the forums), I found a few books and magazines I found indispensible as resources for great information and inspiration. Some of those books are no longer in print, but I urge people to look them up on Amazon and if you don't have a copy, get yourself a copy. Look up names like: PAT COVERT KEN HAMILTON TERRY JESSEE BILL COULTER And also old magazines like PLASTIC FANATIC, etc . . . A lot of those basic questions will be answered before you know it, and in terms of this forum in particular, if I had five cents for every time I see the work of talented and gifted builders on this forum, I'd be a rich man! -
Revell's 36 Ford 2 n 1--Where is it?
Dr. Cranky replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Let's hope for the best then! -
Here are a few more pics . . .

Here's some progress. I tested a few sets of dualies on this puppy and I didn't like that wide wide look to the back. I think people should be able to reach that beer cooler form the sides . . . Here's the mock up of what I got so far. I gotta knock the shine off the chromer and the visor which has a film of Future clear on it where I pun some pinstriping . . . . I still have a while to go on this thing, and I haven't even done the interior or engine yet!

Revell's 36 Ford 2 n 1--Where is it?

Hum . . . . I guess nobody's heard of it or seen it. Keep your eyes open. -
LOL. One of these fine days I will make it out there, buddy, and I'd love to show you and anyone else who might be interested. I am doing a little how-to presentation at the show in BAMA this year, on March 7th in fact. Maybe someone will video tape it and then post it on You Tube!

House of Kolors paints
Dr. Cranky replied to Fuel Coupe's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You can also get great kits from here: www.coastairbrush.com or from: www.spraykings.com or from www.tcpglobal.com -
Great work, Mr. T!
-
It's a smooth-buiilt, well-painted model. Congrats.
-
It's a fine, clean and smooth build. Love the color too. Nice job!!!
-
FREAKING GORGEOUS!!! What a paintjob! Wow!!! Spectacular, buddy. Congrats.
-
Well, I've been stalling on the engine a little hoping to get a set of white walls that's headed my way. I am going to try the dualies on this one and see what it looks like, and I will do the same for EL RATCHERO. Stay tuned in . . . and thanks for all the comments.

I love the BLING!!!

Thanks all for the comments. I really appreciate them. Here's the link to the Fotki, if you want to see more in-progress pics: http://public.fotki.com/vsuarez666/voodoo-...-1/skirtchaser/

El Ratchero!!!
Dr. Cranky replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I love that, Terror. I wish! I do have a large spares parts bin, but I try to keep all my models in their boxes, and the decals I store in a moisture free cigar box . . . or rather cigar boxes!!! Thanks for the kind words, though. I appreciate them. -
LOL That's what I love about his forum--things get out of hand quickly, and they always lead to more fun!!!
-
Oooh, I like that name, Harry, but then I'd have to put a cigar somewhere. Maybe by the beer in the back!!!
-
Here are a couple of more pictures . . . I still have to add some braces from the chassis to the grill for a sturdier, more realistic look . . . ahem, oh yeah, like this is realistic, right? And of course all the trim to the back fins too!!!
-
Thanks for the comments, amigos . . . Here's some more progress . . . Okay, got the body painted and also installed the front grill which looked funny up so high, so I gave it a mudguard (I think it is more of a fitting mustache!) . . . I should just call it DIRTY OLD MAN!!! Yeap, it's definitely a MUSTACHE!!!
-
Beautiful work on the body details. Can't wait to see it painted!

El Ratchero!!!
Dr. Cranky replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
And to think that I was never going to build a Falcon kit because they are dear to my heart, both the kits and the 1:1s I've ridden in! Those suckers were made to last, unlike some of the plastic vehicles on the highways today! -
El Ratchero!!!

What? A firewall headboard? HA!!! (Thanks for the idea, CB!) I made a little progress on this short-tranny faux cover . . . we don't want folks saying the body is too far back and the tranny too short, right? I like the strange, if not bizarre, look of this so far . . . but in the wacky world of rat rods everything and anything is possible! I still have to hang some chains, and it'd be great to have a cowboy hat but the last one I had I used . . . hum . . . ??? -
Thanks for the great comments, folks. You guys keep me smiling. I saw one of these VW busses shortened like this at a show and it always stayed with me. Of course, that other one had received a shiny paintjob. I still see these types of vehicles out there, though I would imagine by now they must not be that cheap. Oh, man, now you've given me a great idea for a simple base: A piece of concrete surrounded by a chainlink fence, a dog bowl in a corner, a few patchy tufts of grass, and a sign that reads: BEWARE OF THE PUG!!!
