More-so, looking for tips & tricks!
Corvette.Jeff replied to brentech's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
hello brent, though i may not be that much of help to you ill try my best. about the kits, i personally dont know of any bad manufactureers, most people just us amt, revell, and tamiya because those are the more popular brands. paniting, Most people use airbrushing, its alot better imo and you can do a lot more custom paint jobs. you can still use spray paint if you want, i usually use it if im doing a hot rod project or something olang those lines. mosly because it comes out flat some advice thoug, stock up on suplies if you dont youll run out pretty fast!lol -
Hi, im going to be doing a 57' chevy here pretty soon, but i need some help. One thing ill need help on is the paint. i want it to be black, i have an airbrush and finding paint wont be a problem. the problem i will have is making it super shiny. how can i do this? i know i need to put a clear coat on but ive never used it before, so can i buy it at hobby lobby like i do paint? and do i just spray it on with my brush like the paint? im most likely going to be laying down a coat of primer(out of a spray can) but do i sand the body down in between coats/ what about sanding down the paint? do i do it the same as the primer? and of course hte clear do i sand i down? and how many coats do i need to put down? also i bought some really cool wheels for it, they are fujimii wheels that are scaled to 335 in the rear and 255 in the frnt. what will i need to do to fit these in the wells/ i know ill need to tub at least the back but what about the front? also how do i strip the bumpers chrome off? and could i mold the bumpers in with bondo? also i would like to know how to put some negative camber on the wheels how can i do it/ the kit is just a basic revell 57' belair kit. thanks, Jeff

Building the Black Widow *Updated 3/03/09*
Corvette.Jeff replied to Len Carsner's topic in WIP: Model Cars
where can i get a kit? -
also on the wantanabes, the real ones would be a little deeper than 225 and 245. I beleive (last time i looked at a set) they were 275 wide, How ever much of a profile you want on the tyre, and 16 is a popular size And i love It already! anything z related i love

Hi stump, Being a z enthusiest and owning an s130 i hope i can help you out a bit The model your building and the picture you suplied us of the real car are two different Models of z's. The one your building is a zg model z from datsun. The blue one in hte picture is a fairlady, although both are japaneese versions of the z car they are two totally different cars. The zg had the elongated nose, while the fairlady had a shorter nose. As for the spoiler The one on the blue car looks to be a BRE spoiler,I could be mistaken though. Here is a link to a few different z car forums if you would like. they both have thousands of pictures of 240z's for your enjoyment! Zcar.com Hybridz.org

Dave i gotta say, you inspire me to see you build these cars from just a basic model amazes me. I hope i can be as good wihth plastic as you are one day im still trying to figure out bondo though keep on with the good work! -

its not a real well known brand my parents bought it for me because they know i like stuff like that. its by central pneumatic or something like that.
-
hey guys something about the z cars they are a mechanical nightmare(the 300's anyway) im a big z nut still though i own a 280zx turbo(undergoing a v8 conversion) i hat the stock engines theres way undrpowered too the only way to get a reliable 300zx is to swap out a rb26 or a rb 30 cool kit, but on hte real cars the tops are usually black ive always hated that about those cars though.
-
i tried it with mine and failed miserably, but you have more experience then me :)one thing i did was bend the rear axles up(where the air bags connect to the axle itself) and on the front i chopped the springs off and cut em down a little then glued em back on(thats the part that failed) it got it to sit lower but one thing you have to remember is the fender wells aren't deep so you may have to raise them up on the hood higher. if you wanted the body to sit lower you could just cut out part of the frame(careful the fram is skinny but you probably already knew that)

Scribing Panel Lines & Opening Doors
Corvette.Jeff replied to ViperDave's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
afeww more questions, ive finally located all the necesary suplies to do a hinge(dang those things are hard to make!) 1. what do you guys use to glue the hinge to the plastic? 2. Dave is there anything you havent built? 3. what clay said. -
man that lonewolf guy can paint some models I have a question though, i have both style of airbrushes and i already used the single action, but i haven't used the dual action(i have to find the right fitting for my compressor) whats the difference in settin up the brush? like on the single its a quick change brush so i can have a few colors ready to use, but with the dual it takes a vial(the bottle the paint comes in i wasnt sure what to call it) in the bottom versus the front mounted vial on my single. is there really any difference on using them paint wise? also if anyone is interested, you can pick up a free copy of the basics of airbrushing at hobby lobby, i picked one up and it helped me out some
