Love those, Shawn! I remember going to the NZ Grand Prix in Levin, north of Wellington in about 1964. The preceding events with Minis in their own class, or up against Mk2 Jags etc were the stars of the day.

I'm also a big fan of the Sketchpad Artists and have been fascinated by good automotive art since my childhood. Also, while we're on the topic, I think Harry's art direction and layout are second to none. That is, I don't know of a magazine that LOOKS better than MCM. (I can't say I'm qualified to judge but I was a graphic design student for a few years - and anyway "I know what I like").

Apart from DM and FM I think I recognize one or two 59 Chevys from WCPD as well. Anyway they all really come to life and look more realistic in this diorama than anywhere else I've seen them. A little weathering here and there wouldn't go amiss - maybe you and he should join forces.

Can anyone tell me about the wheels and tires from the later (80s on) re-issues of the Predicta? For example do they all have whitewall inserts? Thanks for any help.

"It is recommended to stay away from lurkers". That shouldn't be too difficult. And I'd like to hear of an instance where a lurker could be "dangerous". The problem is that the word lurker is a misnomer in this context. Traditionally the term has an intrinsic negative connotation but I see nothing wrong with observing a forum without, or only occasionally, posting. It's not as if you're hanging around outside the girls' changing room.

After 50 years of building I find I've become a collector too. It kind of snuck up on me, and now I'll even buy an empty box if it pushes my nostalgia button. I actually have the nicest boxes in the display cabinet with my built models. Recently I bought the original (1962?) Monogram 36 Ford, MIB for $24 on US Ebay. This is the kit that really started my obsession when I was 13 and the pristine, unassembled parts, the instructions and the box itself are a joy to own again. I'll resist the urge to build it by building the latest re-issue instead. It's identical except that, like every other re-issue of this kit, it doesn't have stock wheels, tyres or hubcaps. But those from the Revell 37 Ford pickup are a great substitute.

I think my wife would be shocked if she knew more precisely how much I spend. But she reckons my obsession with cars "keeps me off the streets." (Try packing more irony than that into one sentence!)

Update..... If anyone else out there is looking for stock-looking wheels and tyres for the current Monogram 36 Ford, take a look at those in the Revell 37 Ford pickup or delivery. They're slightly smaller than those in the original Monogram 36 but bigger than the current issue's steelies and white-walls, which are rather small for 1.24th. Replicas and Miniatures also has two versions of the 37 wheels, one with the "spokes" opened (P-126), the other, (P-109) with 5-lug detail added so you can use them without hub caps.

Just got this and the Black Widow in the mail. Hope they turn out as well as yours did.
