  1. Here's some built-up pics. Very simple kit, but it has some possibilities as a companion to a 1/18 diecast or 1/20 kit. I'm envisioning this one behind a Big Bad Blue 1/20 '70 AMX
  2. Looks like an AMT 65 Corvair custom wheel......but that kit had the 13 inch compact wheels/tires, and the tire in your pic doesn't look like a compact tire.
  3. London, Ontario
  4. That's a cool box of beaters! I'm sure a lot of you guys can relate to this...you see a box of dusty old built-ups, and right away you do a quick scan to size them up....junk....junk....junk....whoa!...what's that?? Like these beaters I picked up long ago. I didn't mind adding the junkers/parts kits to the pile to get that one rare oldie
  5. Here's one I picked up years ago and tried to turn into something worthy of display. It was a fun slump-buster if nothing else. I think I paid 25 cents for it....about what it's worth
  6. 4 1/4 inches wide between the fenders, 5 1/4 including the fenders.
  7. I would search for underhood pics of Boyd Coddington's Smoothster. The van kit is a re-bodied version of the Testors Smoothster kit.
  8. Just got my first look at one. The "CHRYSLER" lettering is still on the engine cover
  9. It's the Dodge Lancer. The Metalflake Valiant is a sedan molded in green.
  10. The "1971 Demon 340 MPC Annual promise" is a misnomer based on speculation back when the announcment was made. The kit wasn't envisioned (or announced) as a reissue of the old MPC annual, nor did it involve any parts of it.
  11. Here's a '69 Vette Dyno Racer
  12. AMT '70 Monte Carlo?
  13. Posting pics of an MPC oldie you don't see built up too often (there's probably a reason for that). I picked it up as an old built-up in a collection years ago. I finally decided to do a quickie resto on it just for fun a few weeks ago (you need a sense of humor to work on this thing). Mostly box-stock except for '65 Riviera wires and an over-the-top hood ornament from a Monogram '39 Chev. Paint is Testors Electric Pink (what else?). I don't know what MPC was thinking....I guess they were really reaching to get more mileage out of that Grand Prix tooling.
  14. No, they're not the same kit. The top pic is the original AMT annual that has never been re-issued. The bottom pic is a re-issue of the MPC annual. It's been released in several different AMT/MPC boxes over the years. Without getting into too much detail, it's not the best replica of a '69 Mustang, and generally considered to be undersized. Given a choice, the AMT is the kit you want. Here's the original MPC box.
  15. Thanks for the info, Jim. Here's the one that has me confused. The '71-'72 rear quarter trim is missing, otherwise it's a '72-looking body.
  16. Yes...the box shown should contain a '71 or '72 kit. That's why it's a bummer to open one and find a '72 with a '73 body....or an entire '75-'78-style kit
  17. Or you might get a mutt like mine; a smooth roof panel with '72 chrome. I also have a '72 Eldorado with a '73-style body without the chrome gills on the rear quarters (pretty sure it came in this box; I've also seen one that contained a '76-style Eldo)
  18. Heckle looks like it's from a 69/70 Johan Road Runner/GTX
  19. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with this issue
  20. Looks like your Bonneville has a '61-'62 Impala interior
  21. The 5-spoke steel wheels on the Z/28 kit pictured above were exclusive to the Z/28. Not standard or factory-optional on any other Camaro.
  22. This was an answer to a challenge. The kit was given to me in pieces with a warped roof and a poorly shaved body....it was beyond "gluebomb"....the guy said "You'll never be able to do anything with this!". A few weeks later I was watching TV one night...... No, it's not the Monogram kit.
  23. An update on my earlier post re the "Five-Dollar Duster"; two gluebombs combined into one presentable kit ......you've seen the "before", now the "after". Everything went as planned except the use of the new-tool '71 Duster decals; due to the differences in body dimensions (the new version is larger). I could make them fit, but I'm not sure I want to go to the trouble, so for now it's a stripe-delete car. If nothing else, it's a good excuse to revive a fun thread, and maybe encourage some to rescue those junkers. Couldn't resist a bonus A-body group shot (the orange '70 Duster is a former glue-bomb '71 too)
  24. I remember being laughed at when I started scooping up Johan stuff back in the 90's; including USA Oldies I consider this one my best score:
