  1. Yes... a Charger wagon. A few years ago I picked up an original MPC '74 Charger annual. I kept looking at the custom rear roof extension thinking it might make for a cool retro '70's custom. I dug an old glue bomb Super Charger from the boneyard a few weeks ago and decided it was time. I cut the pre-scored side windows and sunroof from the '74 roof extension as I like the similar '73-issued wagon version over the enclosed '74 "van". A few additional mods....I lowered it a touch (yes...old school metal axles!). used custom wheels from a '69 Wildcat (probably fictitious but they look appropriate) on old AMT 70's-era two piece big 'n littles, modified the rear bumper and added a '66/67 Charger taillight, installed a pair of grille inserts from a Dukes Charger, and added side exhausts from an AMT '64 Cutlass (yes, the reissue has 'em) cause they look similar to those saw-tooth '70 Cuda rocker moldings. I also turned the hood scoop around and molded it in because the original installation was pretty rough. Finally...a '69 Riviera custom dash; not because I wanted too, but because I lost the Charger dash....somewhere. Paint is Tamiya TS-94 metallic grey.
  2. They're all great looking builds, but that Chrysler is a knockout.
  3. Beautiful work! I especially like that Grand Prix; one of my favorite 60's Pontiacs in my favorite '64 Pontiac color. I try to mix my own colors using hobby paints and Sunfire Red is one that I haven't been able to come close to.
  4. Thanks, Monty. The GTO is Tamiya lacquer; TS-74 clear red over TS-38 gunmetal. That pic is a little dark; here's a better one to show the color.
  5. Thanks The unpainted Vega is a Twister Vega/Grumpys Toy test shot mutt; the painted/detailed one is a production Round2 kit. I never built the original Grumpy's Toy. so I don't know how they compare. I'm sure someone will compare the new kit with the original (if they haven't already) in the review section.
  6. This is a point that "we" seem to forget when commenting on some of the product releases. We might want that '68 Coronet, but John Q Public might be just as (or more) likely to pick that Nova wagon off the shelf at Hobby Lobby.
  7. Not a bad year overall. Completed three display kits; a Grumpy's Toy Vega, '70 Z/28 and a Nova wagon. Unfortunately I don't get to keep them. Assembled a few quickie test shots. These can be fun; just cut the parts of the sprue and glue 'em all together right away....just like some of us did when we were kids (c'mon..admit it!). Fortunately I had time to complete a few of my own projects, 8 kits and one distressed promo ('69 Impala) restored. I also managed to build a cool little 1/24/1/25 (?) scale MPC Amphicat. As the year comes to a close I have an MPC '74 Super Charger gluebomb rebuild in progress; a wagon conversion using pieces from an original MPC annual, and waiting in the wings is a Johan '60 Olds restoration. Lets hope we all have a safe and happy 2021.
  8. Minor point...this one isn't a snap kit (pretty close, though).
  9. If you look at the hanger shot, you'll see that 80% of the funny car parts are missing, namely the entire funny car chassis/engine/interior. Those parts were also used under the '65 Chevelle and Unreal Edsel funnies, and are MIA
  10. It's all in there, plus a few other enhancements that weren't present in the original annual
  11. It's just like the original annual; stock/custom/racing. The racing version is a Bonneville streamliner-looking setup.
  12. It's a production kit. As per Tom Geiger's suggestion, here's an old Craftsman beside the new one.
  13. Beautiful work!!
  14. I finally opened my Ohio George '60 Ranchero.....I didn't realize they were in there. The Nova tires are thin-line whitewall versions of the Ranchero tires.
  15. This kit is actually a re-creation of the Craftsman kit with a few improvements, not restored old tooling. There is no "engine top", just the chassis insert.. Like the original Craftsman kit the hood is separate but it is meant to be left in place. The parts you see to the left of the QR code are actually the clear red parts; taillight lenses (another improvement over the old kit) and a clear red telephone (no kidding!). I just finished building a display kit, and it was virtually flawless. The body was so clean I just gave it a quick sand/primer/paint; no puttying sink marks, sanding mold lines etc. I believe Round2 will post pics of the build-up soon. One thing not mentioned by Chad...they re-created the old AMT "compact" whitewall tires as used on the old '60's annuals.
  16. AMT custom sedan with dropped front axle and Li'l Coffin wheels/tires.
  17. I'm totally in the dark when it comes to release dates, but this one shouldn't be too far off..
  18. No more that I can share, unfortunately.
  19. Front/rear bumpers were touched up after cleaning with srategically-applied BMF and Molotow liquid chrome. I'm still experimenting with the Molotow. The ink can give pretty good results when applied with a brush to some areas, not so good in others (applying it with the pens isn't worth the trouble due to the "dulling" issue discussed by others). The GTO scripts and grille/headlight areas were done this way. but I also tried it on the wheel lip moldings; they looked like BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH. The profile pic (second from bottom) was taken before I re-did the moldings with BMF.
  20. I was wondering if anyone would catch that....didn't take long!
  21. The hood and engine insert are separate pieces. Here's a peak at a test shot.
  22. My latest restoration; an AMT '64 GTO. I've never fussed over the Monogram or Polar Lights kits to compare them to the 1:1 car, but to me this is the "proper" '64 GTO kit. Sure, it's a simple old '60's-era kit with the metal axle through the oil pan etc etc, but I just like the old stuff and to me this one looks right. Basically box-stock. I was missing the AMT hood inserts so I massaged a Monogram hood to fit. The fit is a little wonky at the front corners, but I have the AMT hood painted to match just in case I ever find the inserts. Paint is Tamiya TS-74 clear red over TS-38 gunmetal to simulate Marimba Red; not bang-on but I'm satisfied with the look.
  23. Award winners or not, there's a lot of good work there. Good to see them preserved.
