I knew about the Dencon kit - too bad that he is not producing any more. I've been to his web site a few times and he seems optimistic that he will get back into it and I hope that he does. He had some neat offerings and apparently the quality was pretty decent. I think that cutting and sectioning fenders as would be required to build a big truck is a bit beyond me any more as my eyes aren't all that great. I may give it a go, but I'd rather just buy a nice conversion and be done with it.

On my monitor, the colour that you used is very close to the original Crown Sapphire that was used in '59. I am a bit biased here because to me, the ultimate automobile is the '59 Chevrolet with my first choice being the Impala convertible, followed closely by the Sport Coupe and the El Camino. I have all three in 1:1 and one of my El Camino's is Crown Sapphire and my Sport Coupe ( which is a total project ) was originally Crown Sapphire with an aqua interior. Crown Sapphire is to me, the perfect colour for the hardtop, El Camino and station wagon while I prefer the convertibles in Snowcrest White. Your builds are beautiful and do the '59 due justice!! Very nicely done and I am sure that I am not alone when I say that more pictures would really be appreciated. Your builds are among the nicest '59 build ups that I have seen. Well done!!AAAA++++

Wouldn't you have liked to have been the fly on the wall to see the reaction when your friend opened the package to reveal your gift? Your seemingly simple act of kindness was huge to him and the quality of that build reflects the fact that the gift came from your heart and it was not just a superficial thing. Your friend was truly blessed to receive such a unique gift and you had the pleasure and gratification of doing something very special for someone for whom you care. There is no better gift than one that is created and is really a part of you because it is your creation built by your hands. I have no doubt that a simple plastic model car is likely now among your friends most treasured possessions and your gift is something that he will always treasure and remember you by. My hat is off to you for your thoughtfulness and generosity and both builds are striking and top quality. I don't believe that we can ever give too much of ourselves and sharing our talents and abilities as you have done is deeply personal and touching. There is a law in life that is as sure as gravity. And just like gravity, we really do not understand how it works, but we reap what we sow or give in life. Your kindness will not go unrewarded because as I always say, "life looks after itself" and somehow, somewhere, some day, you will receive from somewhere unexpected what you have given - something that will be truly special to you. You have a good heart..the world would be a much better place if there were more people like yourself. Well done....

Nice build, to say the least!!! While the CObra is not my kind of car, I do admire your skills and the finished product is one that I;d be proud to have and display in my home. I like the attention to detail and the craftsmanship that shows some real talent. Good work and I look forward to seeing more of your builds. AAAA++++

IMHO, the Futura is simply a beautiful automobile and while many consider the design to be at least somewhat radical, in my eyes, the car is a thing of beauty. I have at least one of these unbuilt in my collection and I can appreciate the time and effort that you put into this. As was said, this car is "never cool" and the history of it and it's evolution is as interesting as it gets. Nice job - the colour choice is really nice and all around - VERY well done!!! AAAA++++

I was looking at and admiring the '53 Ford dump truck in the Light Commercial section that was posted by Pharoah and that truck is a thing of beauty!!! There is a fine example of a gap in the model world of a big truck that needs to be filled. I have to wonder if there would be enough interest in the mid to late '50's big trucks - Ford, GM and Chrysler products - to make it worthwhile for a caster to start offering conversions of these in resin? While the truck model market seems hung up on the highway rigs ( Kenworth, Peterbilt, Mack, etc. ) there were many larger commercial versions of pickups that did much of the work in building our nations. Personally, I;d really enjoy building some of the work horses of the day back then that did everything from serving as single ( or tandem ) tractors for short hauling to dump truck, tow truck, flat deck delivery truck and even farm truck duty. I;d really love to see for instance a late '50;'s GMC or Chevy or a '56 Ford Big Job offered that we could build in any one of countless forms that were common back then. Maybe this post is in the wrong category but I am talking resin offerings here... So what do you think?

Nice build!! Was or is there anything about this kit that you found inaccurate or that you did not like? I ask only because I have never bought a Trumpeter kit and some guys have complained about issues on several other releases from this company. I've looked at this kit ( and the convertible and the ranchero ) but have hesitated to buy it because it is a bit more pricey and I hate disappointments when I open a box if you know what I mean. I;d appreciate your comments on the kit. I had a 1:1 silver ( had a black imitation spray on vinyl roof ) Futura 2 door hardtop years ago - red bucket seat interior, six cylinder automatic - and I loved that little car! I sold it and have finally replaced it with another six cylinder Futura hard top that I hope to drive this cming summer.

WOW!! That sure is pretty!!! You did a fantastic job on the model! the wheels look great as does the colour combination. A fitting tribute to an age when cars still had character and class and you could tell one make from the next at a glance unlike the cokkie cutter BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH that they market today. Your attention to detail is enviable and the model is a thing of beauty! I can't see or think of one thing about this build that I don't like. Too bad that this model has never been reissued. AAA+++

You did a fine job and the car looks great! it's nice to see it sitting like it should as the lowered thing is getting old and frankly, it does nothing for most models at all IMHO. Variety is the spice of life and being creative is what model building is all about and to each his own. But you couldn't improve on this build unless you added a set of stock sized white wall tires.. they'd go nicely with those wheels and that colour. I respect everyones builds whether they be custom, rod or stock and I do nt like to criticize, but this is one car that you just can't improve from the stock look on aside from the rally wheels. it looks like the caster did a fairly good job on this one as well. AAA+++

I bought an AMT '67 SS 427 convertible like this in 1967 and it got lost ( along with all of my other models ) in a move in 1971. I'd love to get another one but the prices are too crazy for these. I may yet cave in and pay whatthey go for for one, but if it is an unbuilt kit, I'll probably just leave it that way and open the box once in awhile and sigh wistfully - what ever the heck that means.. *sighs* Seriously, I'd just like to own another one of those kits and let whoever gets it after I am gone build it. Ideally, I'd buy a decent built kit and just redo it in factory stock form. It's obvious thatyou put a lot of work into your build - looks great!

That colour looks absolutely so right on that car!!!! It never fails to make me smile when I see an old model brought back to life and when it a quality build like yours, it makes it even better!! The colour looks like when the car was designed, the guy doing the drawings had it already picked out and he designed the car around the colour. Nice job.. vERY nice!!!

53 Ford Dump Truck

Talk about a flashback!!!!!!!!!!! In 1971, my dad bought a '56 Ford dump truck that had spent it's life as a runway sanding truck at the Winnipeg, Manitoba International Airport. It was a single axle truck that had literally no miles on it and it had some big V8 in it and best of all, it even had a functional hood scoop!It was painted a green that was very close to a military colour and the thing went like stink!!!<br />I wish someone would cast a resin cab like your build or that you had pictures showing how you modified the front end of the truck to look so right. You did a beautiful job on this truck and it is obvious that you have some serious modeling skills. Nice job without a doubt.. I love it!!!!!! AAAA++++ -
New Moebius Ford Pick-ups 1971 Ranger XLT AND 1969 Custom SWB

My dad bought a bright red '71 F150 Custom long wide box brand new from Springfield Motor Products in Oakbank, Manitoba. he traded in our red and white '65 F100 lwb Custom Cab with a 240 and a four speed in on it which really irked me because I had a real thing for that '65. The '71 had a 302 and a 3 speed standard transmission and it was a slug, but I really came to like the looks of the truck and the way that it drove. It had no power steering or power brakes but it drove like a car and I was again really bummed out when he traded it in three years later on a used '73 GMC Camper Special three quarter ton. I hated that truck and how it rode like a tank and guzzled gas like nothing I had ever seen. <br /> Years later, I owned a red '69 Ranger that was a gorgeous looking truck until I had an accident with it and I sold it about a year later. It was repaired and I used to see it around up until the last few years.<br />Today, I have a burgundy and white '71 Ranger XLT F150 that I want to make into a decent driver one day. I sure do like the '67-79 Ford trucks.. now if someone would consider making a '73-79 F150 Super Cab...<br />I'm really fired up about this pending release.. thank you to those who stepped out and who are making this become a reality. I, for one, have no issues with these trucks being five dollars more than an AMT or Revell kit. I think that AMT in particular has become too complacent with their following and lets face it - you can only release a '64 Impala or a '57 Chevy so many times before they become - well - kinda stale...??? R/M has made an effort but Moebius will leave them all in the dust if they continue to think outside the box and listen to the people who buy their products. There's definitely been some interesting stuff come forward during the last couple of years such as Trumpeter's '64 Falcon and the Moebius offerings. I think that the other manufacturers could learn a thing or two from these guys as far as diversifying molds to offer more new kits without completely retooling. the trumpeter Falcons and Ranchero is a good example of that. It's going to be an interesting year... -

I bought a '57 Squire wagon from a guy on Ebay awhile back and I am still wondering what to do with it. It's a resin kit and the body is actually very decent and acceptable. I somehow doubt that the guy cast both the body and interior because the interior fits like - well - *sighs* It's warped and you can see where someone brushed more resin on the floor pan to give it some thickness, but it is still transparent. The seats are decent but that interior tub - well - pathetic is being charitable. I have three choices here as I see it - throw the whole darned thing away - blacken the windows and build a curbside sans interior - try to combine a Ranchero kit with the resin interior. This means drilling and blasting - cutting things apart and joining styrene and resin - I think that I can do it by modifying the Ranchero side panels and using the resin seats and rear floor area wit the third seat. I am not sure what kit this wagon is derived from as the Revell ranchero grille doesn't come even close to fitting. reckon I'll try an AMT kit and see what it's like. Buying resin from casters who are not well known is a gamble at best. I know how you feel and I can identify with your frustration and buyer's remorse. Bin der - dun dat.

Frankly and in total honesty, IF my pockets were deep enough, I;d still never attend one of these auctions nor would I EVER buy anything through them. It's got absolutely nothing to do with jealousy, envy or class predjudice. I have issues with the buyer AND the seller paying commission on a transaction and I despise the media hype that has driven prices to the moon. In my ever to be humble opinion, the "hobby" is like Christmas - it has become so commercialized and dollar oriented that it has lost it's appeal - for me anyways. Yes, there are gobs of nice cars but I'll pass thank you. If you enjoy it - I am happy for you. But I choose not to participate. For yours truly, my love for old cars is much more just that - the love of old cars. I donl't like and own a '59 Impala convertible because it is a pricey car, but rather simply because I love the design and have done so since I was a kid. I loved '59's when they were scoffed and laughed at but I like them because I like them and what anyone else thinks has always been unimportant. Actually, I preferred it when they were not so trendy because it meant that you could still buy one for a reasonable ( read that as affordable ) price. I say what I say with all due respect to all, but I say it because its how I feel and I know that I am not alone. Said it before - I'll say it again - Ebay, the media and Barrett Jackson and their like have screwed the hobby up for the common guy because they have turned it into a business. I see where a nice car at a car show is often an object of pride and and bragging rights as to how many thousands the owner has invested in it. It's like a contest to see who has the deepest pockets. ironically, many ( most ) of the high dollar cars are check book cars where the owner has farmed all of the work out to commercial shops. To me, the joy is in working on a project and doing things with your own hands and abilities rather than paying someone else to do everything. We all have limitations as to abilities and resources ( financial and shop and equipment ) which means that there are things that we must have someone else do. But I seem to see that many ( most? ) people who love their old car just because it means something special to them and it is not about what it will be worth when it is done. just my opinion.. -
Spoken like a true Grandpa!!! My best buddy when I was inmy teens bought his first car - a mint green '57 Ford Custom 2 door post - or "coach" as we sometimes called a sedan back then. With it's reliable, but tired old 223 and three speed manual transmission, it was still a go getter. he drove it for a year or so until he bought a gorgeous '58 fairlane 500 2 door hardtop - dark green and white just like this: It was also a 6 cylinder three speed car and he drove it for a few months until; it was rear ended and written off. It was replaced with a black '59 Fairlane Club Victoria 2 dr ht. Ahh but for the good old days...

83 Ford F150 4x4 Long Bed

It would really be nice if there was a resin long wide box available as there are those who do like the lwb pickups as much or more than short box trucks. Speaking for myself, I'd buy more pick up kits if they weren't mostly all short box variations and I think that there would be a market for long wheel base boxes not just of this vintage of Ford, but older ones as well as well as a long box for the Revell '64 Chevy pickup. -
Is this going to be a mostly stock build? I have one in the makings here that will be sleeper stock and it's good to know about the chassis. I may just build mine out of the box as I want to get it finished but it would be nice to do one of these up really nicely as they do not seem to be too popular ( 'cause they are a four door I guess ) and to see one nicely done will be unique. I plan on a vinyl roof for mine but getting the rear deck top trim placed correctly is proving to be a bit of a challenge for my old eyes and shaking hands..
