I concur - it does look super good! On another note - can you polease expand on your statement - "Main reason the Federal government stopped these recently is because of all the wood they contain"? I am afraid of whatyour answer is going to be but I have to ask.. do you mean that they mandated the stopping of the use of these vessels?

Wow! Such talent! the fireman figure realy grabbed me - instantly made me think of 911 and the Towers and those who perished so tragically and needlessly on that dark day. Thank you for posting... -

She looks good!! I have a big version of the Titanic in storage - I'll likely never build it but it's sure cool to just open the box and look at it. I like models of ships and aircraft.. yours looks just fine! -
USS Enterprise
impcon replied to a topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Back in the day, I never used to miss Star Trek. I would not count myself as being a "Trekkie" but I liked the show as a teen ager and I have seen all of the movies. I always thought that the Enterprise was quite pretty and for it's time, I guess thatthe series was fairly well made. I bought a bunch of built up models earlier this year and in the bottom of the one box as a model of the Galileo - the space shuttle used in the series. That made my day! My eldest son has quite a few Star Trek models and I have considered buying a couple once I get my toy room together. When the original series was running, I sent to the production studio and they sent me several envelopes full of stills from different episodes as well as a cut away drafting-like drawing plan of the Enterprise showing all of the decks and the structure of the ship. They were actually quite gracious as I asked for a shot of the Galileo and they sent me a nice 8"x10" glossy. My two younger brothers either gave away or destroyed my pictures - bummer. I'd sure like to have those framed and hanging on a wall today.. Nice model.. can you please post some more pictures of her? I felt a real sadness when the original Enterprise was destroyed near the end of one of the earlier movies - don't recall which one that was. It was pretty cool near the start of the last movie when they showed her being built.. Thanks for posting - I know it is not a car but it's cool all the same! -
Tell me what you think.

Hi Barry, I think that you can request the moderators to do that - they seem like great people and given the cause, I would think that they will do what ever they can to help. I am really looking forward to seeing how things workout for you and I hope that you will keep us all informed. Feel free to PM me or email me any time. -
Keep talkin' - it's working. I have to get a couple of things out of the way first.. definitely interested though. I am still not sure if I would go with just a standard cab or the sleeper cab. You know what you should look into making, is a '53 0 56 Ford Big Job.... they were a really pretty truck with their little functional hood scoop and all. If you did it with a '50, then a '53 shouldn't be too difficult. Actually, there woulds likely be a market for each generation of big truck right up into the '80's. What do you think? :

Barry - maybe you could post something about this in the "General" forum.. you'll have much more exposure there I would think.. just an idea.. -

Hi Barry, you are to be commended for your efforts withthese young people and I think that collectively, everyone here on the forum's hat is off to you and to those who support and encourage this program! Now if only this idea would spread to other educational facilities and other law enforcement agencies would pick up on it. If you just touch and change ONE young life and save that youngster from a life of drugs or worse, then all of your efforts are worthwhile. Man by his very nature is creative and wired to build and create - and this program will sow some good seeds I would think and you will make a difference somewhere, somehow. If you are doing a contest, how would the idea of a public display go over - say in a mall? I would think that given the cause, you'd not have any trouble getting a local mall to give you some floor space and provide you with tables and a lot of what you would need to create a display. For many of the kids at least, it would really give them a sense of accomplishment and some pride in what they create when it is out there for the public to look at. You could do as in a real car show and hand out ballots and let the public vote on different categories and award some kind of trpohies or ribbons to the winners. If each youngster was to receive some sort of plaque or something to acknowledge his/her efforts - it would help to nurture what has been started. Perhaps some of the guys here would be willing to contribute in some way towards this??? I'll email you privately. It is MOST gratifying to read your posts.. and those of the people who have responded to the idea here. Thank you... I wish the local RCMP detachment here would do something like this for the kids in this town. -
Fruehauf Tank Trailer
impcon replied to Jim B's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Sure looks good to me!!!! I too like the GMC - it just looks right for a fuel tanker. Most of the gas trucks in these poarts are conventionals which strikes me as kind of odd because some of these gas stations are not that easy to get into with a cab over let alone adding another few feet of overall length with a conventional cab. The other truck looks fantastic too! I kine the striping package on it. Are those kit decals on both of the trucks or did you paint the designs? Either way, they really are pretty. -
Such a nice, clean build - she's built as she should be.. box stock! I like the wheels - they really look good on the car. Paint looks good. Congratulations on a nice build!

Based on any photos that I have looked at from that era, it seems thatthe car transporter semi trailers were styled much like the AMT car hauler that is shown on the box in the above picture. If they had trailers similiar to the ones that we now have, then I have yet to see a picture of one attached to an old truck of the late 40's or early '50's. But I could be wrong and I stand corrected if I am.

Nice car!!!!!!!!!! What version of the kit is that? I am not into '57's but I do appreciate them and I do like them - I have just never had the urge to own one. Still, they are pretty and an icon automobile. I guess that my tatstes lean more towards the more unusual stuff that is not so sought after. I have several of the older AMT Bel Air 2 door sedan lits that are still sealed and I'd build them totally stock. I always liked the copper color that they came in with a beige roof.

A new Website I just happened across !!!!!
impcon replied to seeker589's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am not big on customizing at all but once in awhile, I will see something that I do like. Far too many really good cars get butchered as far as I am concerned. I was looking in a magazine recently where a granhny car - a '56 Mercury 2 door hardtop was customized. Seemed like a shame to me as they said thatthe car was in prisitine, original condition. I can appreciate workamnship and quality work but when I see a choice original cut up, that's where I draw the line. ANoither one that I saw was a '60 Impala 2 door hardtop - another granny cream puff - boy, did they ever mess that one up! But then that is just my opinion. To each his own. -
Revell models listed at walmart.com
impcon replied to samm1970's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's part of a natural cycle. When walmart stops selling models there is a vacuum that will likely be filled by some enterprising retailer - probably a small business. I agree - I don't buy any more from that chain than I absolutely have to but sometimes they are the only choice in a smaller town for certain items. I personally don't like how they treat their employees and I don't like how they come into an area and small shops fail but it is really all part of a natural cycle with free enterprise. Business's come and go and sooner or later, they all are swallowed up by a competitor and suffer the same fate as the small business's that failed when the new chain store came to town. -
Well, I just found this - The truck is a bit futuristic or the cars are pretty outdated - butthis is what I had in mind except the trailer would be coupled to a '49/50 Ford tractor. *sighs* Maybe my idea was not quite as original as I thought.. I should have remebered that saying that there really are not a lot of absolutely NEW ideas..

I thought that the extra cab that you sell was a phantom until I was doing some digging online and lo and behold - they actually made such a truck!!! Sure looks good and the build up in your pictures is stunning! What a beautiful job! It just looks so right! I am really contemplating buying some '49/50 Mercurys and Ford cars and building a loaded transporter for the Tournament of Thrills". Of course, they would have used a Ford tractor to pull the trailers around and actually, the extended cab tractor would make the display even more unique I suppose. I have searched for some photos of the cars on a transporter but could not find anything. I would think that they probably had a closed in trailer accompanying the auto transporters to haul the props and extra parts from performance to performance. Does anyone have any information on this? I figured on painting the truck and trailer white just like the cars and applying some decals - should make for a really cute setup! I posted on another thread asking if anyone repops the decals for the Mercs and Fords .. we'll see what turns up.

Revell models listed at walmart.com
impcon replied to samm1970's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm with you there! I'd still buy kits from the local hobby shops ( well - local being an hour and a half's drive away from where I live ) even if Walmart is $2.00 - $5.00 cheaper. But for kits that will be used for parts.. I'd look at Walmart. I guess that what I am saying is that I'd not stop buying from the local small business's but I'd look at buying some of the cheaper stuff from Walmart. This is just a thought - but maybe the stores will start carrying models agai,. They used to have the rare, occasional killer sale here - I bought two shopping carts full of models a few years back for $5.00 each and that included some of the Ford Loiusville Coca Cola trucks! They were even nice enough to put them on layawy for me for a few days which really surprised me as I was really short of cash at that moment. I still have all of those kits except for one of the Louisvilles that I gave to my son who never did complete the build. It's packed away in storage for awhile yet with most of my other kits and parts. So maybe if we were to write to Walmart and ask them to carry models in the stores again??? Do you think thatthey might do that? -
I agree totally! Now why not build a REAL base model with a 6 cylinder engine? Seriously though - the car looks very, very sweet! Nice job. Nice colors. Nice stance.

What is with ebay?
impcon replied to car lover 1996's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't think thatyou are obligated to pay that and I would be a bit upset if what has happened to you happened to me. I would think that the seller quoted shipping charges in the item description and it is his/her responsibility to see to it that they cover their bases as far as costs go. If you look at the postage charges on the box and then check the amount that the seller charged you, you may find the $5.00 difference. But if the seller is just strying to suck a few extra dollars out of you, then I'd be hesitant to pay that. If I quoted a shipping cost as a seller and found upon shipping that I had somehow made an error and I was out on it, I sure would not hold the buyer responsible or ask him for more money. There were times as a seller when we had to dig into our own pockets and pay extra for shipping - but that is just a part of doing business. It was my mistake - not the buyers. Check the seller's feedback and see if he has done this before. Used to be, you could contact other buyers who had bought from the same seller but like so many other aspects of the site, Ebay screwed that up too. Sometimes in a deal gone sideways, it helped to be able to communicate with other people who had bought from the same person. -
In line 6 cylinder engines, what kits have them?
impcon replied to Hondo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's always nice to see something built different from a top of the line muscle or luxury car. That's one of the reasons why the new '62 Impala seems to appeal to a lot of guys - because it isn't a SUper Sport with a four speed for a change. I'd like to see one of thoise built with a 6 cylinder and a three speed standard transmission.. bench seat, shifter on the column type of thing. I know that the model has a bench seat and I applaud the manufacturer for giving us that option. I think that building something as a more mundane, common family car makes for a neat model. I like and appreciate the Super Sports and such but I sure do like to see something that would have been more of a family car. It's just a change.. and change is good. Well - change is usually good. -
Old AMT "Tournament of Thrills" Decals
impcon replied to impcon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i have been thinking that the AMT Haulaway car carrier trailer coupled with a Monogram 1950 F1 converted to an F6 using Dencon resin's conversion - paint everything white, decal it all up and load it fown with '49 Mercurys and Fords - it would make a nice display. Maybe someone will take that idea and run with it. -
Hmm.. I don't think that too many of the old Revell kits were blessed with not being warped. I still have a '54 Chevy two door sedan that I tried to build stock. I put a ton of hours into that pig only to find when I was ready to do the final assembly that it looked like a donk with small wheels. It sat ridiculously high and there chassis was warped - that kit is total, absolute, pure, 110% unadulterated junk! I had so many hours into it including scratch building an exterior visor and fender skirts and opening the trunk that I just could not bring myself to do what I felt like doing - set it on the floor and then jump on it with both feet. I still have that piece of junk stowed away somewhere where I will seldom if ever lay eyes on it. It sure looked pretty too in a medium metallic brown with a beige roof. I stay away if possible from the old Revell kits and if I do buy one, I now test fit everything! I failed to do a mockup on that Chevy - I would have never believed that a company coupld produce something that bad. I like the car - but not the product.
