  1. Your build is coming along nicely. Looking good - and I can appreciate the work and effort thatyou are putting into it. Keep up the good work
  2. I have been looking at his products that are sold on Ebay and on his web site and he sure does offer some stuff that really appeals to me. The above mentioned '60 Nomad wagon, the '57 Ford wagon, the Dodge A100 pickup and van and a few others. I was going topost and ask for feedback as to the quality of the product but this thread has dispelled any doubt or concerns that I may have had. If nothing else, one should be able to build some nice curbside models if the work looks too difficult to really build a detailed model and for the price that he sells his car bodies for, it's still has to be a good deal. I reckon I'll go ahead and place an order later this month for a couple of kits - and I see on his site that he has free shipping at this time for orders over $50.00 as long as the order is within the lower 48! You can't beat that!
  3. Looking REALLY great! You just gotta love the lines of those old Pontiac full sized cars! Clean, sharp, well propotioned and elegant! The upholstery was really attractive too.. definitely gonna be a sweetheart when you are done! Why not build one stock in the colours of the one in the picture that shows the back end of one? They'd make a neat pair on display - just like twin sisters - the one the strong willed, wild and free one and the other, the pretty, shy and modest one... more of a lady..
  4. In the immortal words of the late Jackie Gleason - "How sweet it is!!!!!" That is realy cute.. I can't wait to see the finished project..
  5. My, but that is simply gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!! The guy sacrificed a $600.00 model just for the disc brakes???????????????? Aw, YUCK! Some guys have wayyyyyyyyyy too much money......... I cringe at $40.00 for an old annual to restore and that guy drops six C notes just for brakes? You did an awesome job.. masking off those stripes must have taken some serious effort and concentration as they look perfect! I have masked off and ainted on stripes on a 1:1 vehicle a few times and I know how tedious that was.. That sure is a nice build...
  6. I'm totoally with you and agree 110% thatthose boxy Caprices were really attractive, classy cars. I have often wondered why they were never released in kit form as a police car as every movie thatyou see from back then used that style of Caprice for cop cars. We just watched the forst four seasons of NYPD Blue and they used them in that series. They have nice, crisp, clean lines and I really wouldn't mind one as a daily driver. I liked the "greenhouse" h\coupes with the wrap around rear window.. in the right colours they are an eye catcher. Wouldn't mind a lit of one of those..
  7. If you put your cursor on a picture on your Photbucket page and a drop down box appears with the headers Email & IM Direct Link HTML Code IMG Code Ignore the top three - copy and paste the text in the ING Code space into your "Reply" or POST" box here on the site and it will open the pictuere here. I just went through this and while it is a pain in the neck to have to post pictures on Photbucket, it's the best that the powers that be here can do at this time and I am grateful to have what we have. It's really simple once you understand that it is simple - it's just a hassle having to upload toPhotobucket. Still, it beats the alternatives as I understand them to be.
  8. I'm surprised that no one has suggested a spot for unique models on Ebay and other auction sites .. I am on a 1:1 car board and they have an "auctions and for sale" forum.. it's actually kind of interesting.
  9. Good for you! I know - it's the thrill of the hunt.. it's a guy thing.. women just don't get it.
  10. I tend to agree with the word "cute" 'cause it is just that! It's a nice build - a stock one with Nash dealership decals would be awesome! These are on Ebay all tyhe time and they are not expensive. I have been looking at them and thinking but I don't know when I would ever getthe chance to do a build - I already have a lot of projects in mind and several started. Butyeah - she's a cutie! Nice build - congratulations!
  11. Thank you for posting those pictures! I, for one would love to see more please post somemore or you can email me directly. So what do they do with the old equipment like the cats and "Ivan" when they are finished or worn out? Do they have a "bone yard" where all that likd of stuff is put so that parts can be pulled if needed to keep other equipment running? I can't see hauling an old D9 away as being practical- but maybe they do. It looks like one of those places that most of us know exists but not a lot ofpeople wonder about daily life for the people and equipment who live and work there. It would make a neat diorama if one was to replicate parts of the facilities there - and a unique way of preserving a piece of history. A diorama of the layout of the facility and one of the shops where the equipment is serviced and worked on. Another question - how do those newer trucks hold up in the severe cold with all of the plastic that they have in them? How do the electronic components do in the cold? It has to be a hard life there for any type of equipment. I like the shot with the penguin init.. they're cute little guys although they can probably be a nuisance I am sure. I have heard and read that they are not afraid of people - is that really so? Hmmm.. so many questions and more coming to mind as I write.. Thanks again for posting.
  12. First of all - I just composed this post and I figured that I had better go back and say right at the start that I am not trying to hijack anyone's thread here.. the discussion was about International trucks and I figured I'd just add a bit here.. hopefully no one gets upset with me.. I appologize beforehand if you do.. First of all, I just looked ar R&R's website - he has an impressive array but I am wondering what the quality is like. Looking at some of the pictures, there seems to be some kits that are a lot cleaner than others as far as flash goes. Just wondering what the quality is like because he offers some really neat stuff! A little story here - all of it totally true - for anyone who might be interested and if you aren't - oh well... The International pickup in the first picture on this thread is the same as an old '56 International single wheel ( not duals ) one ton S-130 tow truck that I have here that I used to use around the property for moving cars around and doing all sorts of lifting and pulling. I could write some interesting stories of when we used it as a winch truck back in my forwood hauling days. I was hauling firewood with my two brothers and we'd go up into the hills with three trucks - the tow truck and two pickups. If we had to get onto a logged off landing to get dry wood and the roads were bad because of ice or new snow, we'd chain up the old tow truck, pick my '59 Chevy half ton on the sling on the back of the tow truck for weight and hook a chain from the back bumper of the '59 to my brother's '61 Chevy pickup and the old 'Binder would march right on up the hills through anything - ice or snow or mud - and never hardly grunt and never spin a wheel. We would find large standing dead larch trees ( aka tamarac ) that no one else could get to because they were down over a bank or too far from the road and the old tow truck would would winch the logs up to or out to the road so that we could cut them into firewood lengths. I had almost 200 feet of good cable on the winch so she'd pull trees from a long ways away. I wish that I had thought of taking a camera with me on those trips but it just never occured to me at the time. I'd love to find a model of a '56 like in that top picture and build a replica of "the old tow truck" as we affectionatly called it. Those old IHC trucks were not very speedy on the highway but they were reliable to a fault, strong and just plain tougher than nails. Honestly, as fond as I am of GM's, Fords and Dodges, I really doubt that in a civilian marketed truck, there was anything that could even come close to those old Internationals when it came to being rugged, strong and durable. The old tow truck is sitting out back awaiting an engine transplant which I hope to do in the not too distant future. The engine still ran when I parked it almost ten years ago now but the clutch linkage was really badly worn out and the throw out bearing on the pressure plate wasn't releasing I guess and it piled up and r\\wore through the fingers on the pressure plate rendering the truck inoperable. The old six cylinder was really tired and it will be replaced when the new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing are installed. Yup - that was one tough truck all right. We now use a 1980 F-350 wrecker around the place but the thing is a wimp compared to that old International. the Ford does OK as shown in the picture below - but comparing it to the old tow truck is like comparing apples to oranges. I guess that the old tow truck is why I am so crazy about Mater - the old tow truck from the Disney movie Cars. I collect Mater toys.. wish some one would release a model of him.... *sighs* Oh well, maybe I'll just have to do one of the old Ford.. I was going to post a couple of action shots of her in action last Fall but I figured that my doing so may be considered hijacking.. I'll post them if anyone wants on the trucks thread if it is not proper to do so here..
  13. Well isn't that just lovely! What a shame. Hopefully someone will get into the driver's seat and the molds will remain active. I don't know all of the facts of course but it is never good for the hobby when this sort of thing happens. Yup! I agree - better stock upon all of those Lindberg kits that were on your wish list before the prices go nuts on the stuff.
  14. hi John, Looks like pretty good work to me and as I painted real cars for fifteen years, I understand fully the concept of "it's all in the prep work". Guys - what are your views on rechroming as opposed to buying repop resin parts that are chromed?
  15. Thanks kindly! I think that I have a grasp on the process so far. Now, would you be so kind as to get into how to actually construct the 3 dimensional door with the inner door panel attached?
  16. Thank you Harry.. I appreciate the leads and information. Love your avatar by the way The brother of a friend of mine when I was in high school had a '59 Bel Air 2 door hardtop in those colours.. it was gorgeous!!!
  17. Just wondering if anyone has ever posted a tutorial on installing opening doors on a build? I know that it is a tedious job but it's something that I would like to try to incorporate into some of my builds down the road. Any help will be appreciated.
  18. I have some model parts that I either have to replace with new resin repop parts or else send them away and have them rechromed. Any suggestions as to who is reliable and honest and what does it cost to have parts rechromed? I know it will depend on the size of the part but does anyone have any input on this based on actual experience? I looked at Chrome Tech's webpage but there is no price guide to indicate what the costs are. Are there any other platers who you would recommend?
  19. Thanks for the input guys. I tried the freezer thing and it worked well for the most part. When the original builder put the truck that I am working on together, he seems to have painted a lot of it before assembling which has really helped I am sure.
  20. Amen, Brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. This has probably been asked before but I have not been able to find anything on the subject. Is there a way to avoid hosting pictures on Photobucket and just upload decent sized images right from my hard drive to this site? I was just in the trucks section and a bunch of photos are gone - there's just an icon that says that the bandwidth has been exceeded. Any ideas?
  22. Your pictures aren't showing.. Methinks you need another photo host... Bandwidth exceeded? What's that all about anyways?
  23. Yeah - I'm still smilin'!
  24. I really adore that era of Chevy. This may seem like a dumb question but is that a resin kit? Lookin' really good!
  25. That is one AWESOME build! The photography ain't bad either , by the way. The color on that car is outstanding and the finish looks to be as good as most of us only dream of achieving. You're a tough act to follow..
