Excellent work! Very realistic! The only thing that bugged me was the title. I had to think about it a bit. I think you meant Interpretation rather then inspiration? Can't wait to see more from you!

Resin Mustang Lx's a Comparison and Review thread.
Abell82 replied to Abell82's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I broke down and purchased a cowl hood from PSF Hobbies for the 87-93 Mustang, it arrived the other day. So I thought I would show you all what its like .. The pics may make it look a bit rougher then it really is, and the transaction went smoothly... With a AF/X / Reliable Resin hood (PSF on the left, the darker of the 2) They are indeed quite different, though similar in overall shape. the angles of the cowl are not the same. Since the front of the cowl is more closed on the PSF Hood (It is solid,) it may need sanded, or trimmed for exotic engine applications. The overall casting is a little rougher then I was expecting, but it's also thicker then the others, and so should prove easyier to modify. and possibly less prone to warp? In addition to the hood I was also able to finally talk a certain someone out of ... an 87-93 Mustang LX Hatchback body from AAM! Comparison coming soon! -
I haven't really updated this thread lately. Took a small vacation (literally) . And I have been working on other things, while I waited for funding and supplies to arrive. To keep my skills sharp while I waited, however I began a new project ... "Frankenstang II" ... The (mostly) all resin version. (Or) The resurrection of an AAM Body (whichever you prefer). Some gratuitous teaser pics ... to prove it's true... I now have most of what I was waiting for, and can fake a bit more, so we'll be blowing the dust off Frankenstang ver.1 very shortly. Please be patient.

I removed everything but the front and replaced the rest. -

A word of warning. The reason that many people have problems with the quarter windows, is that the quarter windows on the cobra are "off" themselves. Look at where the bottom of the left side is as compared to the right side. They are off 1mm right from the start. -
You can use one of these kits to make this a do-able task.... I purchased the one I used from Napa Auto parts, but they are probably available at any parts house. Just pour your paint into the jar point and instant aerosol. At 15.00 (roughly) probably not the best solution, but a handy weapon to have when you need it! Hope this helps.

So be it. ...Lord Modelbuilder has been sent a PM.

Pm sent.

I can see how you'd feel that way, after trying to take on most of the whole project by yourself. To the rest I have pmed Jason Vandergriff, I have not heard back. I will wait 1 more week. After that it will default to the next in line.... Lord Modelbuilder.

Short answer : No body makes them in resin. (commercially)
-
Is this the style of hood you are looking for?...

I hate to hijack the op's post further but... The Turbo Cobra and the HotRod Mustang are similar but not the same. They share the the same chassis, interior, and engine. But the bodys are different. The Hotrod Mustang does have the front end of the McLaren, but has the Capri rear taillights, AND it is the ONLY issue Revell made with SVO sailpanels. The Turbo Cobra is all Mustang { well...except the fenders! (LOL)}. This was made from the Hotrod kit ... Thats how I know.

Resin Mustang Lx's a Comparison and Review thread.
Abell82 replied to Abell82's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
WOW!! Now that's customer service. I am not even done typing and editing and Kris is already offering a new hood I appreciate the offer of the replacement hood, truly I do. But as I said, it's a minor issue, because the donor kit will lend it's hood. with no problems. And I understand why you didn't cast the front seats, but maybe if there is enough demand you could offer them on the side? (If you need a set, I'd be happy to send you a couple.) If you were going to add anything, I'd add the side mirrors. They are really the only thing I found missing to make it a complete trans kit. -

Who wants an update? Since I didn't specify a year for the comparison thread, and since it is so frequently mentioned through-out the thread... I have decideded to add a M.A.D. resin 79 coupe to the thread. For those interested, here is what I received... Headlights and taillights and most of an interior? Has any resin Mustang coupe been this complete before? It's own set of decals? WOW! A fairly complete kit, for the most part. The only thing I really missed is the side mirrors. If it had included those, ANY MPC kit would be a good donor. (HINT!) I also wish it had a set of front buckets, to match the rear seat, since those are only available in one kit. (Not a necessity, since many would use an after market seat in their build any way, but a nice luxury to have, an option for if building a stock/ semi stock unit.) Proportion wise it's pretty darn close to perfect. The body and fender lines around the door were not made. (To replicate an MPC factory body, perhaps? ) This means each modeler has to make their own. ( Good and bad sides to this, you decide.) Now, as with any resin kit I expect it to have issues. a few air bubbles here and there are to be expected...BUT The one thing that slightly peeved me about the copy that I got is that the hood is terribly thin. (So thin, that it will NOT be used, for fear of warpage) Here is the hood on the body, notice the body brace shows through the hood... It's a small issue, since the donor kit will lend a hood anyway. And since I bought it direct from Kris I am sure he would replace it if asked.... A somewhat minor let down in an otherwise outstanding kit, to be sure. As always your opinions may vary. -
Fox Chassis and Pony Wheels
Abell82 replied to Scuderia's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hmmm...that pic looks awfully familiar.. In any event, the best route to take to get those wheels is Missing Link. The kit, is 50/50 whether the wheels will have sink marks. Missing links are nearly 100% perfect (you still have to trim the flash so the finish is up to you). For the record, the wheel in the picture is a kit wheel. -
1987 T-Bird Turbo Coupe Question
Abell82 replied to Scuderia's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No, not without work. The T-bird should be 1 / 24th. The Mustang 1/25th. -
Mike, Have you checked your exhaust cut outs, against the exhaust you'll be using? If the exhaust fits.... I probably wouldn't worry too much. It looks great, and it's coming along quite nicely. The convertible LX started life as a Lowrider Mustang GT. (Probably my second oldest LX project, but the first completed.) I made the tailights and rear spoiler from scratch. (As well as the front bumper cover.) I was hoping to have them resin cast, but no one seems interested. I am unsure as to whether it's the subject, the maker, or the compitition that keeps the resin casters away. (Maybe a combination?)

Bandit1 I really hate to be the downer here but I am going to anyway. Let me explain this to you... First NO ONE is gauranteed anything, or position or this or that, until their time comes. So getting your heart set to make the chassis is setting yourself up for disappointment. Second You are like 5th in line. This means it could be as little as 5 months or as long as 2 years before you ever lay hands on it (the way things are going.) . Are you seriously telling every one on the board, that you plan on not having 10-15 dollars in 5 months -2 years? Someone check my math but by my calculations all you need is $.10 per day. to make 15.00 in 5 months. {5months @30 days /15.00} My advice to you is to plan for success rather then failure. (I have "proof" read this and it comes off more harsh than it is really meant too. BUT it gets the point across, so I'll leave it.)

Nice Job, Roy! You flatter me, too much. Brad (LOL) Most would probably say my work is more of an unhealthy obsession, more than anything else. (Probably quite true!) I haven't worked on "Frank" lately, as I've been distracted by another "shiny" object, but I digress... Here's one of my oldest LX projects, for you Roy. As an owner/previous owner / modeler maybe you can enjoy it? It is slated to be a 92 Special edition, (Red and White) if I ever build it. (side view)

I have Snowball, right now. My appologies I have been stalling. Part of the problem is that members come and go so quick I find it a challenge to figure out who it should go to next. Not to mention a couple have changed thier on line names. As of right now the line up will be: Jason Vandergriff Lordmodelbuilder Fuelcoupe Bkcustoms Gpugh1976 Roadhawg Bandit1 This is always subject to change of course. Any objections?
-
Roy, How did you do the rear spoiler?
-
The person that bought the Mustang was an enthusiast. I am not sure what happened to the Capri. (it's a LONG story).
-
I'm afraid I sold them both long ago. They were both 84's One was a Charcoal metallic RS the other an 841/2 Anniversary Mustang.

I've had 2 Turbo Gt's (well one Gt and one RS) and while fun I would prefer not to have another. They don't make as good of a sleeper as you might think, as when you rev it up the turbo kicks in, even in neutral. And the whine or the whistle from the waste gate is almost always a dead give away, of a turbo car.
