Resin Mustang Lx's a Comparison and Review thread.
Abell82 replied to Abell82's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Reliable Resins car is as of right now the only kit (sort of ) readily available. The issue (other then those stated) is that it does not come with mirrors. the only option for those is the 93 Cobra which may or may not be 100% correct. Or possibly you could modify a different set, such as those from the 87 T-Bird, or? And the airbag steering wheel is the other item found only in the Cobra kit. (too bad Revell didn't include it in the new release of the SVO!) It's kind of a shame as Brad stated earlier that you can't use one of the MUCH easier and cheaper to get Lowrider convertibles in it's entirety for these bodies. Maybe the steering wheel is available in a different kit? Anyone? Explorer or Crown vic? F150 or? -

Please Note: I am not saying that any of these bodies are not worth building, and it should be noted that I am ONLY listing the more commonly known proportional problems with these bodies. As these are resin cast bodies some bodies may be more flawed then others, but ALL will share in these flaws. Here is an AAM that has had the side trim, and nose addressed... (it still needs a new roof, and the trunk fixed.) -
Actually the Monogram Pace Car IS a sunroof car. Monogram didn't fill in the sunroof until the SVO. And the chassis while similar has been changed through the years. Look at the area around the fuel tank.... And just an FYI the Convertible GT taillights are taller then ALL other kitted taillights. As for the black car above, it is an SVO body that was given to me. Unfortunately I only got the body, and the front bumper, and a few other parts. This was years ago. At the time SVO kits were only available in red plastic and very hard to find. It is in no way meant to represent an 87-93 GT. Instead it represents something much more sinister. There is one important detail you missed Brad. And it is a Cobra front bumper. Notice there are no scoops on the side? You may not be able to tell from the pic, but it does have Convertible mirrors. (from the Cobra kit) The 1993 Cobra body that gave up the rest of it's kit parts... It actually did become the test mule for the first (of 3 ) lx hatch conversion(s).... true story.

They all look very good Brad! Personally I'd like to finish this one... But we all know how that goes...

I take no offense at all and completely understand what your saying. However, if the issues are not addressed, how will they ever be fixed? And for the record I also completely agree with Dave, if it hadn't been so agressively sold as the only "correct" Mustang LX, then it would be a much smaller issue. If instead it had just been marketed as the "New and improved" Reliable Resin Lx... They made ALOT of promises though, and then fell through. They KNEW what they were getting into, they even say so in the old thread (well they did before the edit job anyway!). AND so I really find it hard to feel all that sympathetic especially when they say "it's the best on the market", So buy it despite it's flaws. -

You know, that's the thing though I waited for quite a while, for the Reliable car to come out, and when it did I was sorely disappointed. I don't want to be let down again. And Revell's track record lately... Personally I'd rather take a proactive approach. Imagine if Revell used there existing Turbo Cobra or worse the convertible "cabriolet" version as the basis for the "New" LX coupe! -

Exactly! Especially since it is completely unlikely that they would ever revisit ANY of there previous releases in anything but 1/24th scale. (Turbo Cobra,Turbo Capri and IMSA cars excluded) Personally I'd like to display all of them together rather then with the MPC/AMT versions. -

I'm just messing with you Dave. I think that was this one....? (Edit: it was definitely this one.) -
Yeah, Len Giesler has it, and refuses to pass it on insisting he will one day finish his part. I have asked him NUMEROUS times to pass it on. i would ask that anyone interested also pm or email him, and do the same. Hopefully he'll eventually get tired of the constant emails and pass it on.

if you look at the side belt trim you can tell which are which. It's about a 50/50 mix, There is even a Mad 79 coupe converted to "aero" nose spec. -

No, the black convertible, also has one. Anyone... Ever ...Rrrreallllyy? I think I may resent that remark just a little bit.. (LOL) In any event, I was trying to find some completed cars to compare completed builds to see how they look. I stumbled upon Tim Lewis's Fotki. It's my belief that out side the original resin caster, Tim has probably seen and built more copies than anyone else. Check out his fotki there is some amazing work in there.... http://www.fotki.com/outlawdragracing -

Well said, Brad. One thing though, Reliable has to this date NEVER offered a police package for this car as far as I know. drag packages yes, but not a police package. The Only build of this car, that I could in fact find ( with an internet search ) was a drag car. Thanks Darin, this explains to me more then you know. -

Abell82 replied to Abell82's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
No disrespect Darin , but you miss the point. Depending on what the builder wants to build it really might not be any better than the AAM. body. I know that this probably sounds harsh, to you, and I am sure you look at the Mustang LX coupe with a certain (justifiable) pride. Possibly you may even think I am being judgemental, or hurtful. I am not trying to be mean, however. The simple fact is that it's quite off. in certain aspects. The rear quarter windows being different shapes and sizes for one. I think that if you sit back and remove the fact that you made the master and look at it objectively, you would understand... Would you want to buy a resin body from ANY caster that was different side to side? I don't believe you would. Fact is I believe you have complained about that very thing, in the past, or/but maybe that was someone else? The simple fact that it may or may not still be available does not in it's self make it worth buying. (Is Don still around?) Case in point... Again nothing against you personally,Darin. I really do think you're very talented just that the Coupe may have missed it's mark. Oh, and since we're on the subject and by the way... To anyone who may read this... there was another Mustang Lx coupe produced in resin, in very limited numbers from what I understand. You can call me crazy, but I'd like to get one. So If anyone has one please contact me. -
Thanks everyone, I am glad you liked it.

Naw, I'm just messing with you Brad, well sort of. Frankenstang was just built for fun, from all the parts literally EVERYONE says NOT to use. Just to see what it would look like when compared to a decent one. I actually DO already have a good one made up, but NO resin caster seems interested in casting it. I'm not sure why, because I believe it would sell, even if Revell comes out with one, simply because of the scale difference. (If Revell's new one is 1/25th it's going to look tiny when sat next to their old 1/24th scalers, after all.) So BUILD IT already ! (LOL!) That's what the cbp is for! quote name='Mike Kucaba' timestamp='1315762384' post='518816' I have one sitting here that I also got off ebay. It has a body with engine compartment molded in,vacuum formed rear window, and an interior bucket with no seats, dash, or a hood. What typically is the donor for this? Also on this one the visors are molded in,the f&r facias are also. How do I tell if the engine compartment is correct? I remember reading about a build-up long ago that the battery placement being an issue year to year. /quote Sounds like an AAM kit to me. Any of the GT convertible kits will work, fine as the donor. The compartment is wrong, in that the battery and other features are wrong. You can really just cut them out, depending on your build.I did for Frankenstang... quote name='DoubleD' this is the AAM coupe that i've had for some time. it will never be any more finished then what you see here. someone was gracious enough to send me this one when i didn't get the 3 i had ordered and paid for from AAM. REALLY hoping and praying at this point that Revell does come out with an LX coupe kit and we can finally have something worth building. \quote Just finish it Dave, it's a model. It doesn't have to be perfect. Consider it practice for the next one. That's how I look at all of mine. ( Sorry for the confusing nature of this post, I was trying to answer all the questions, but the board does not seem to care much for that idea.) -

Frankenstang? Still needs an interior. I only made it for fun. Besides I am not set up to be a caster. -

What happens if you want a GT, or Cobra front cover, instead of the standard LX? They appear a little small on the Reliable version, to me. To fix this, you would need to cut the middle part of the body, below the belt line and remove about 2-3 MM. If you use an AAM / AF/X body, you will need to first remove the LX cover as it is cast in, then you'll need to add 2-3 mm to the front edge of the fenders. So in summary which one is better? I guess it depends on the builder, and the end result. Niether are 100 % accurate, and both/all may require many hours of work to finish properly.
