Resin Mustang Lx's a Comparison and Review thread.
Abell82 replied to Abell82's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
As you can see the front Bumper is both better and worse then the AAM / AF/X bodies. The overall shape is better, but the bottom below the trim is still, back too far. The "cross bar" (Ford emblem), is an area that needed more work. A blurry pic, to hold my place until I get a better one. The Af/X bumper is a repop of The AAM. It shows, in very few places as well as the front bumper. The opening in the bottom of the bumper has gotten bigger and more mishappen. The cross bar shows it's age as well. The AAM bumper. A decent attempt at a difficult bumper made some 20 years ago...that was cast before it was finished. Need more be said? (edit: new pic added) -
So I was thinking this might be helpful to some one interested in purchasing one of the Mustang LX Coupes. I think this is a thread long over due. So how about it? I have photographed them all together, that the pictures might speak for themselves so to speak... I would be happy to take additional photos as needed. For reference, the Reliable resin car is on the left, the Af/x car is cast in white (repoped AAM), and the AAM is the lighter tan car. 1. Reliable Resin First of all, I have 3 Reliable Resin coupes. Each one is flawed. None of the engine compartments are complete, one the roof was so thin, that I could read instructions through it. So I have to question if there are really any good castings out there. Also Reliables castings share the same flaw that the AF/X and AAM do, they ALL filled in the rear bumper for casting, which means that for a person to build them, they have to sand out /grind out the rear bumper to get the chassis seated properly. Additionally the rear window has an odd shape to me, and the rear quarter windows are different shapes and sizes. 2. AF/X this is a direct repop of the AAM car. They did clean up the roof on the inside, by grinding out the "sunvisors" which will probably actually help in glass fitment. However, they also somehow managed to flatten the roof to the point that to build the kit you may need to replace the roof. In addition to the AAM castings flaws it also has problems with... the door lines on the right side of the car are very shallow, and in some places non existent. Finally the rear wheel wells are further off then any other body... kit or resin. 3 AAM. The first coupe on the market. It has the wrong side trim, the "wrong" engine compartment, and the rear trunk lid is "off". Also the body lacks the Mustang in the rear bumper, and the frame rails/ drip rails (below the door) were never fixed properly.

It's not perfect, but I think it's pretty good.

I added five star "pony" wheels from a 1991 Mustang Gt convertible kit. And finally the finished Model...

You've probably seen this in the Fox Community build, (or other places). But if not, here are a few pics. I decided it was time to give it it's own thread... It began life as a 1993 Mustang Cobra by Revell. It was NOT a resin body. Although I did add a resin front bumper and rear spoiler, of my own design. Here it is in it's infancy. I later scrapped the resin hood, and used the stock hood instead. Here is the body painted It is factory Ford color called Bright Calypso Green Metallic.... And the interior... Chassis and interior...

I agree. Why shouldn't they get there own thread. there are plenty out there! Might be just the thing to get someone started on one.

Sn95's? How About SN90FoxeS Instead? This is a Revell Mustang Street Machine kit with a Monogram 96 Cobra chassis and a Mach III 4.6 Supercharged engine... If you've ever built a Revel Mustang of this type, maybe you can spot someof the custom touches. You can see more of it in this old thread if you are interested: http://www.modelcars...ne&fromsearch=1 Sister car again with an SN95 Chassis... This one's thread is here if you need to see more...http://www.modelcars...showtopic=22202 Sorry I couldn't resist. Best of both worlds and all.

Thanks guys, Nice job Mike, and Tony! Brad, it's actually the 3rd 93 Cobra kit, that I converted. I kind of rushed it's conversion, so it did not turn out as nice as the first 2 But I went ahead and built it,anyway. Here are some pics of it sans paint... And with paint ... I would still like to flow some black into the seams, to make them pop a little better. But I am unsure what to use, for the best results...

The 1993 LX Mustang hatchback model...

We are talking about this "snoball". "Snoball" II .The one that the ENTIRE thread is dedicated too. And, yes we did get permission. Would it be wrong to ask EVERYONE to email Len and ask WHY he refuses to pass it on?
-
Not that I am aware of Len Geisler has it, and refuses to send it on.
-
I am not sure I like the sounds of this, myself. While I welcome the subject, the scale of it bothers me. I think that I would much prefer it if it were 1/24th scale, instead, so that I could display it next to the other Foxes from Revellogram. If they do produce it, in 1/25th it will look tiny next to ALL of there other Fox offerings. And while it could be displayed whith MPC's foxes....should it really HAVE to be?
-
I've built about a dozen of these kits, in there various incarnations. It's much funner to build then the Revell kit, as it excepts customization easier, and has a much smaller piece count. It also looks SO much better then the AMT and the MPC versions, that came out before it. It only took Revell something like 30 years to come out with thier kit.. to bad they couldn't figure out how to do a "Cuda as well as they did the 69 Camaro. Here are a few bad photos. I haven't taken new pics since I got the new camera.

Still waiting. If you are not done yet, you are NEVER going to be. PASS IT ON Already.
-
I have not had time to work on anything, since I moved. I would need an extension, please.

Len Geisler WHERE is snoball?
-
No drama, no b.s.. NO ONE is questioning Len, or any one else's abilities. Nor Am I trying to stress anyone out. I have been lienient enough to give Len ample time to do his part. Others had 1 month to do there part. I am NOT here to judge talent, skill or comittment, nor will I. But I will endevour to keep the project moving. It is because of this, and in the interest of fairness, I am saying pass it on. There are others waiting, to do thier part.
-
This attitude really bothers me. We all agreed to do what we could in a one month time limit. BEFORE this project started. Others have manageed to TRY to abide by this time limit . Why should it be set aside now? While I understand, that life gets in the way when I see the person that is supposed to be working on theis project CURRENTLY posting topics on all sorts of other things, and NOT posting ANYTHING about this project it really irks me. If you are blocked, or stumped or not interested in the project, pass it on to some one that WILL work on it. OTHERS ARE WAITING FOR IT. That is the point. we do what we can, and pass it on to others to finish. Len, I have told you once before, and now I am saying it again. PASS IT ON!!!!!!

The only one available in resin is the hideous one that AFX made, and Relaible resin repops, to the best of my knowledge.
-
Very cool! As one of the first kits, I remember ever building, I have a special fondness for this kit. REGARDLESS of what everyone feels that they ALWAYS need to say about the kit. It's fun to build. Nice job.
-
Show us Updates and pass it on Len, it's time!
-
Umm... can I have the taillights when he's done breaking it? (LOL!) Nice Job!
-
No, you could not cast a body with those kits, by themselves. The Mini kit, is just that. A Mini kit. It is approximatly half of what the other kit is. The deluxe kit only has 1 pound of rubber, you'll need between two and five pounds of rubber for a body, or so I am told. Not to mention, that it is VERY quick setting resin, it takes some trial, and error to get good parts using this resin.
